Liverpool fielded a very attacking line up in Monday's derby with Alonso/Gerrard in the middle along with Keane and Torres up front. Many Liverpool fans have been calling out for this line-up an they got their wish only for it not to pay off.
Keane looked hopeless and while the manager has not helped his confidence it is up to player to take his chances. Keane never had a shot on goal. Liverpool's danger men were again Torres and Gerrard and those two should play up front, when fit, from here on out.
Everton played well in the first half and troubled Reina more then we troubled Howard. In saying that we should have been one nil up after Hyypia sent Torres away. He did everything right except score. Janelka got away with a shirt pull on that one but it would have been a soft pk. LIverpool then had a very strong pk turned down as the same player clearly bundled over Torres for the frustrating Webb to waive play on. I'm not sure how you don't blow for that.
Liverpool were better in the second half and started passing the ball a bit quicker. Skirtel was still very shaky in possession but overall we were doing better. Everton's best chance came right before we scored. Anichebe pushed Alonso right over, Webb waived play on, and then he fell over his feet in the box. Moyes lost his rag on the touchline and Gerrard went up the field and hit a pile driver from 25 yards. After that moment we never looked like scoring. Everton started to get back into the game and after a series of corner kicks and free kicks Everton put a serious dent in our title challenge with the annoying Cahill scoring again against us. He was un-marked and the defending was criminal.
Overall Rafa needs to find out best 11 because we are running out of time. It' s never nice to throw away a lead but to do against Everton who looked out of the game after we scored makes it harder to take.
