Liverpool

The score-line might have been the same but this was a very different game. Everton deserved their draw on Monday as we didn't play well and they had a few good chances in the first half of that match.

In this game, minus a shot that went well wide in the early stages, their only other real attack of note, resulted in a goal from another set piece. The annoying Cahill again found space with Alonso ball watching. Skirtel then left Lescott who had little problems glancing his header past Reina.

I can only think of two or three other times they even played a pass in our half after that goal. Liverpool worked the width of the field but once again our nemesis was that we can't break down teams who park the bus in front of goal. It's not Everton fault that they have to resort to these tactics. We are a better team then them and they know it so it's an effective strategy for them and others. Until we figure out a away to break down these teams we will continue to struggle.

Once the second half started we played with more purpose and were playing the ball longer up the field. The goal game when Gerrard one a high ball who found Torres who's clever back heal found Gerrard again. His shot was hit low and with power but Howard should have saved it. Liverpool were back in it and almost went ahead moments later, this time Howard made a good save from Gerrard. Kuyt should have scored after one of Everton's rare attacks opened up space for Gerrard. Rierra was introduced and did more in 20 minutes then Babel did the entire time he was on. Babel should either go up front or go all together. He was awful. Kuyt was better on the right side but really neither of them had good games.

Torres had the best chance to end the game after some fantastic play by Gerrard. He should have finished it but the Everton defense was on hand to block down the shot.

This was probably one of our strongest teams (perhaps Insua in at left back and Riera in at left midfield) but we are in desperate need for someone else, anyone else, to step up and score a goal at the moment.

About
Kevin Brodie Kevin Brodie has been fortunate enough to see some of Liverpool’s greatest teams and players in action over the last 35 years. Reds fans are spoiled for choice in trying to pick their favourite memory. The best early memory I have of watching Liverpool in person was our 7-0 thrashing of Spurs, with the 7th goal being a thing of beauty. Watching us in 89 lift the FA Cup after the terrible disaster at Hillsborough was also very special. My favourite Liverpool moment on the TV has to be the Champions League final in 2005. It was a day I will never forget.
