As one of Signor Giovinco’s biggest fans, the news making the headlines over the past few weeks has regrettably deeply saddened me. 'Sometimes I regret that I am Italian’
The first of many quotes that have left me frustrated for ‘formica atomica’. To allow one of the country’s most promising talents to have come to such a conclusion is disappointing, not only as a Juventus fan, but also in consideration of the wider picture. For La Nazionale.
Frustrated by the lack of first team opportunities with the Bianconeri, it seems as though despite the Azzurri fielding eight Juve stars in the last World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria, the most talented of them all is continuing to knock on the door to no avail. For a club that has been so successful at integrating young players into the side, it amazes me how Giovinco has slipped through the net so to speak. I am adamant in my belief that if given a decent run in the side, with his fitness levels improving following his recent lay-off, he will become an important part of Juve’s title bid and European charge.
The post- Bordeaux match comments on Tuesday, in which Giovinco replaced the injured Diego in the starting XI, have left me all the more irritated. The 5ft 4in star admitted that he has much to improve on in the wake of his performance. However, whichever way you want to interpret it, Ciro Ferrara’s comments have left me bewildered. ‘Giovinco did well. He is not and never will be Diego, but that is obvious’ . I acknowledge that the coach was most probably referring to the fact that the two players are far from identical, and offer different attributes to the Bianconeri. However, he could have chosen his words more carefully. No comparisons should be drawn, even if meant off-hand. To virtually admit that Diego is a class above the Azzurrini star, will do nothing but shatter his confidence. Despite this being the unfortunate truth (as a fan of Sebastian), in that Diego is of superior quality at the present time, to hear your manager make such a comment, it begs to ask the question, what effect will this have on Giovinco? Certainly not a positive one.
Looking at the situation from a distance, it is of course great to have such quality competition in the side. However, as many supporters choice as the rightful heir to the great Alex Del Piero’s throne, how long will the starlet be willing to remain patient? Much to the displeasure of many fans reading this, I believe if he were to move on and become the great player we all know he will be, how many of us would bear a grudge against him? With the exception of seeing him in for example an Inter jersey, if he moved to another Serie A side, showcased his talent, broke into the national side and flourished, would we not share his joy? I for one, putting aside all football politics, would be delighted to see the little man donning the Azzurri blue in the very near future.

i believe given the chance to play and improve he has the potential to be just as gd as diego or maybe better.
Or play giovinco and diego at the same time playing behind a lone striker (iaquinta/trezegol/amauri) let them wreak havoc and control the midfield.

He is one of my favorite players to watch for in the Serie A, which in its current dilapidated and sorry state needs a player like him. The fact that he doesn't start is truly bewildering, especially in a side that is now fairly competitive for the first time in recent memory and would be greatly improved with the infusion of his speed and movement. The Italian national side's continual refusal to acknowledge his obvious talent is a painful embrace of their policy to allow fading stars to play and burn out while the next generation migrates elsewhere.

He is awesome, but we have a glut of mid fielder and depth so its hard.. but I agree, I like him more than marchisio and he should prpbably get the nod over him, but what to do? the only thing is its along season and everyone will get their chances, some will get hurt an dreplacements will be at the ready.. he will have his chance, but Juve are currently undefeated so far this year so.. lets see what happens.. pecato! Forza Juve!

I agree 100%
Giovinco is such a talent and is not to be left on the bench
Even though he may not be as good as Diego now, I think he could perform upto or even better than Diego now

As in India the telecast of serie A isnt good I havent seen much of him. But I remember him coming on as a substitute against Chelsea in the UCL last season. He was just sensational. Juve got to give him a chance.

Giovinco is a phenomenal player. I believe he should have featured more in last years disappointing campaign, and should get his chance while Diego is injured. However, we must all admit that Juve has a dearth of talent in the midfield and attacking positions, and furthermore it is difficult to fit him into the system because he is a defensive liability. I mean think about it; if Diego, Camoranesi and Giovinco started, then the defensive work in the midfield would be left up to Felipe Melo alone. Ciro is definitely taking this into account, having started with Tiago and Marchisio in the midfield alongside Felipe Melo and Diego in the past 3 games. Unfortunately Seba is going to have to REALLY shine during the minutes he gets coming off the bench, and the starts he will make in smaller games. Things are only going to get rougher for as Momo comes back, as he too will be pushing for a starting spot (even though he doesn't play the exact same position as Giovinco).

There seems to be a general reluctance in serie A to give youngstars a chance which is why some of the best youngones are ending up in England

With Serie A it is an unfortunate mess. Young talents are being almost completely overlooked... Gio on Juve is just one of 3 very large ones that i have noticed since the begining of last season. Inter are even more to blame in this "crime"... They have 2 superbly talented young Italians, Balotelli, and Santon... I understand the talent level at these 2 top Italian teams, but they need to understand the future of the Italian national team as well and the hinderance that these 3 future GLOBAL stars are experiencing because of lack of playing time. How do they ever expect the young players to flourish if they never have a chance to come on the pitch? With out them experiencing the ups and downs of the beautiful game they can never be expected to become "Diego's", Ciro obviously forgot that Gio is 2 years younger and had enjoyed first team football in one of the top 4 German Clubs for 3 years. Given 3 years experience in the starting 11 for any top team Giovinco would be at Diegos caliber

it would be great to see gio having a long run in the 1st team..but then again if at present gio can make impacts and change games by coming on from the bench then i'm alright, as long as he gets at least half-hour playing time each game.
hope juve hangs on to him, don't wanna see them regret him leaving like inter used to pirlo ;)

my thoughts exactly! i really think gio is the future of juve..marchisio too, he miye not get to play as much but he's a great talent..he shudnt be fustrated out of the club!

I think he needs a chance to play regular top flight football. This is the only way he can build up his confidence and truly show us what he's capable of. Maybe a move away from Italy would be best, perhaps a premier league side. Someone with his technical skill and passing ability would fit right into the current Arsenal side. Unfortunately with the new rules being introduced next year regarding the 8 home grown players I doubt Arsene would want to splash out on any more foreign players. This is a shame as i would love to see Giovinco donning the Arsenal colours!

Giovinco's plight is that without aa run in the side he can't show his true worth. Given the keys to midfield like he was for Italy U-21 NT you'd see his true class.
Personally, I would have Sissoko, Marchisio, Diego and one from Giovinco/Camoranesi as my first choice midfield. Giovinco's ppace and trickery can be devastating wide and drifting inside.
Giovinco must play from the start for all the Coppa Italia games and against some of the minnows of the Serie A season.
Given Diego's injury problems he'll play often enough and is sufficiently young that when Alessandro Del Piero's retires, Giovinco can be made the face of JUVE's attack.

Giovinco's talent is apparent to all, but Diego is a class above. Lets not forget that Diego played as an integral part of Santos's Brazilain Championship winning side of 2002, where he and Robinho formed a lethal partnership. He has also paid his due, failing to sparkle in a post Mourinho Porto side, following his move to Europe. He rejuvenated his career with Werder Bremen
A suitable option may be for Gio to be shipped out on loan to one of those Serie A clubs that Juve usually has some arrangement with -Parma for e.g. He can gain some further experience in a smaller set up, and keep in contention for a National selection, as he will still be playing in Serie A. Being a world cup year, competition for places in the Azurri midfield is still openly competitive. I am sure Lippi would still have a place for a nippy, skillful, dribbling midfielder, as Di Rossi,Gattuso,Perrotta are all a bit similar

I just want to say how happy I am that EVERYONE who's posted agrees that Giovinco is a true phenom. Honestly, I can't remember seeing anyone move quite the way he does.
It's true, Diego is a terrific player, but that shouldn't mean that Giovinco should suffer.
I think it's too early to draw comparisons between the two: Diego just got there, and Giovinco never gets to play.
But when given the chance, I know Giovinco will shine.
AND THE AZZURRI NEED HIM! WHAT WTF IS GOING ON HERE????

Giovinco may be talented but a manager's responsibility is always to win first and foremost. The fact of the matter is that Diego is currently better and would always take precedence in team selection supposing that the formation doesn't allow for 2 similar players.
Granted, now that Diego is injured this leaves the door open for Gio to make an impression, but it is up to Gio himself to grab the opportunity to impress.
It is a delicate balancing act: holding on to players with potential but giving them some room to develop. We have all seen cases where the youngester undoubtedly possesses talent but the presence of more established first team players means that selecting the youngster cannot be justified. Giuseppe Rossi in his time at Manchester Utd comes to mind.
In such cases the manager will have to choose between holding on to the young talent or othewise letting him go. The loan option someone mentions above seems a good compromise.

I hve been following Seba Giovinco for sometime nw Ithink deserves to in the starting line up/or bench if Ciro`s Diego is fit.Ciro must ensue that Seba is given playing time otherwise the Man Us,Chelsea(thanks to the ban) and other top Serie A teams will snatch him.

Sorry for the double post, but an important point just came to mind.
Gio has been lauded as a prospect for the future based on his U21 exploits. But then again prominence at that level doesn't guarantee continued excellence.
Anyone remember Nicola Ventola? A contemporary of Andrea Pirlo, the big striker was considered heir apparent to Christian Vieri in the full Azzurri team as he and Pirlo used to tear U21 defences to shreds. But his star failed to shine as brightly as Pirlo's and after he could not make enough of an impression at either national or Serie A I have no idea where he is currently plying his trade.
It may well be argued that his club bosses failed to help him realise his full potential, but the lesson to take home is that the gulf in standards between U21 and full international level is very wide indeed.

Well he was disappointed on the 2 games that he started against Bordeaux and Livorno! He must improved otherwise he will have no trust from manager when Diego and Del Piero returned!

LET GIOVINCO PLAYY!! FORZA JUVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I belive that Giovinco can be as good as Diego if given more playing time. This will enable him develop his talents at the highest level.
