After the humiliating experience in South Africa, la Nazionale arrived home with little left intact. Another game, another disappointing draw. The world expected the Azzurri to overcome the All Whites with relative ease, while la Nazionale tifosi remained cautious as to whether they could chalk up their first win of 2010. It came as no surprise that the latter failed to make the cut having failed to impress since his mid-season move to Juventus. However, where Lippi has caused debate is the admission of 2006 hero Grosso. Having scored the extra-time winner against hosts Germany in the semi-final, and then going on to convert the winning penalty in the final, has Lippi made the right decision?

49 days, 2 hours and 36 minutes. At the time of writing, that is all that stands between Italy and the commencement of the biggest showpiece in world football. La Coppa del Mondo. As Marcello Lippi begins to construct his squad for South Africa, Italians across the country and beyond will await his decisions with much anticipation and in the hope that the wily old tactician will once again lead the Azzurri to glory for a fifth time.
