Just a couple of comments I thought I’d reply to that interested me. If you want to pick me up on anything in my blogs feel free! I’m a big lad I can take it..
Mike didn’t really ask, just said:
“You're not still worried about staying up are you? C'mon, TC, we're going to Europe.
You explain to me how a midfield that includes Hunt, Geo, and Bullard is going to get relegated. And our back four is solidifying, our last three goals being an og, a PK, and a deflection. I love it that Man City needs to get lucky to get a point from us.”
Great column as always. Only complaint is that I thought Hunt deserved to be called out by name. And also that we didn't get two blog entries for each of City's games this week...
Sorry I didn’t do a blog after the Everton game, but by the time I had time to write it the weekend was upon me, so I thought I’d just combine Man City and Everton.
You’re right, I probably should have mentioned Hunt, who had another cracking game. He’s been a terrific signing by Brown, easily his best buy in the summer transfer window.
If the midfield you mention stays fit for the whole season, then I’d say it’s highly unlikely that we’d go down.
However, I’ll be surprised if teams don’t soon start targeting Bullard, either man marking him or trying to injure him. He’s pivotal to the way the team plays. I know we didn’t have him against Everton, and Bullard’s absence made the victory even more impressive, but I feel we’d be a much poorer side if we were to lose him for a longer period of time.
In view of our lack of transfer funds, limited quality squad, and thw fact that our best player is injury-prone, I’d say we are still very much in the relegation picture. The bookies still have us as second favourites, and they usually aren’t far wrong.
Scott asked (a few weeks ago, sorry!)
Do you think Vennegoor off the bench is a good move?
I know I’ve got the benefit of hindsight, but I would have said this three weeks ago as well; It’s the right move for me. I’ve said from the start that Altidore needs games, and now he’s getting them he’s starting to look like a good player.
Big Jan is a decent striker, and clearly knows where the back of the net is, but I just think he’s a bit slow for the Premier League. I like having the option to bring him on off the bench, but favour Altidore as a more physical option to start games, who will upset defenders. I’m sure the American’s first Premier League goal is not far away.

Hear, hear. It'll be interesting to see who Phil plays against Villa this weekend, especially with the next fixture so soon after. I hope he goes with a 4-4-2.
