The Tigers had an amazing 2008. From gaining promotion to the Premier League to winning at the Emirates Stadium, 2008 couldn't have gone much better for the club. However, Hull's recent form isn't good, and the transfer window has opened just at the right time.
For starters, we're going to take a look at who needs to leave the club. There's no doubt about it - Hull's squad is enormous. Although the wages of players such as Ryan France and John Welsh might not break the bank, it's time to part ways with a few players, and reduce the wage bill.
PAUL MCSHANE - He's done a decent job at right back and been far better than I ever imagined. However, he's a man who commits himself too early, has poor distribution and going forward he's terrible. Hull have Sam Ricketts and under-rated Nathan Doyle available at right back. If Ricky Sbragia wants Paul back, let him go. His return would free up a loan spot.
VERDICT: Return to Sunderland
RYAN FRANCE - Possibly unfairly, he hasn't been given a go this season. However, Richard Garcia, Bernard Mendy, and Stelios all appear to be ahead of him in the right midfield pecking order. Ryan has been a great signing, bought from Alfreton Town for £15,000. However, with so many players ahead of him, it's time for Ryan to ply his trade elsewhere.
VERDICT: Transfer to The Championship or League One
JOHN WELSH - His career has never really got going at Hull. The broken leg sustained against Preston North End in 2007 hasn't helped.
VERDICT: Transfer to League One
DEAN WINDASS - This might not be a popular suggestion, but Deano's rollercoaster ride at Hull is over (for now). I'm convinced Dean will return in some sort of coaching role. However, his career as a Premier League player is coming to an end, and if he has his heart set on continuing his playing career, it should be away from the KC Stadium.
VERDICT: Transfer to The Championship or League One
LIAM COOPER - He was one of only a few players that came away from Hull's horrible pre-season with any credit. A revelation at the back, he reminds me of a young version of Michael Turner.
VERDICT: Loan to League One
NICKY FEATHERSTONE - Why Nicky hasn't left the KC Stadium on a loan basis is bizarre. Whilst Hull remain in the Premier League, he is very unlikely to play for the first team. He is a footballer with lots of talent, but it's been wasted thus far.
VERDICT: Loan to League One
