Hull City
Posted by Christopher Farman on 12/28/2008

In the second part of the transfer special, we're going to look at where Hull need to strengthen. The signings during January may determine Hull's Premier League status come the end of May. The following suggestions are the 'top-end' of what Hull can expect from the transfer window.

POSITION: Left Back

Phil Brown has worked wonders at Hull. There's no doubt about that. But, just like many managers before, Phil hasn't strengthened the left hand side. Hull's full backs (Paul McShane and Bernard Mendy) were to blame for the 5-1 mauling on Boxing Day at The City of Manchester Stadium. The left hand side of the back four has struggled throughout Andy Dawson's injury. Andy has been terrific at the back, and provided excellent set-piece delivery.

TRANSFER SUGGESTION: Nicky Shorey from Aston Villa on loan

POSITION: Centre Back

Kamil Zayatte had a terrific start to the season. But, after a few high profile errors, his form has taken a real dip. Despite that, Hull should be looking to make his loan move permanent.

TRANSFER: Kamil Zayatte from Young Boys for £2.5 million

POSITION: Centre Back

With Anthony Gardner spending most of his time injured, and Wayne Brown seemingly not up to Premier League standard, the Tigers are desperately short of strength at the back.

TRANSFER: Calum Davenport from West Ham United for £2 million

POSITION: Centre Midfield

The centre of midfield has been a revelation for Hull this season. The captain Ian Ashbee has once again defied the critics, assisted by Dean Marney and George Boateng. However, in recent weeks, the midfield has gone missing, and at times has looked a little tired. A little more creativity is required.

TRANSFER: Jason Koumas from Wigan Athletic for £2.5 million

POSITION: Striker

Marlon King has been terrific this season. I can not underestimate his contribution to Hull's success. I can't name a player in the Premier League that has a better first touch than this man. Daniel Cousin, although a little unfit and lazy, his contribution in the air can not be underestimated. Craig Fagan had the performance of his life at Newcastle, before been hacked down by Daniel Guthrie. Besides that, there isn't a great deal, and an injury to one or two could land Hull in big trouble. There is also a distinct lack of pace that needs addressing.

TRANSFER: Scott Sinclair from Chelsea for £3 million

About
AUTHOR-NAME-HERE Welcome to my new blog. I've been watching Hull City for over ten years now, and have seen the club rise from a lower league laughing stock, locked out of their own ground, to Premier League upstarts turning over Arsenal at the Emirates. Hopefully you'll find my views on the Tigers interesting, so feel free to join the debate. Come on you Hull!
