Well they all do over the course of 38 matches I guess, but a win on Saturday at QPR would have a stellar effect on Jol's popularity and go a long way to wiping out more than a few awful away days to date.

So will we be in for another dose of away day blues where only the travelling faithful turn up and play to their billing? We've got a little blasé dare I suggest over time locking horns with that team from Stamford Bridge. But Rangers elevation has given us another West London derby with a new dimension, and, might I suggest, added resonance. We have perhaps more in common with our Loftus Road cousins than we like to admit. Both clubs have known more hard times than good since growing out of very similar working class environments. Any list of trophies won would fit comfortably on a beer mat, while both have faced a financial meltdown in modern times that threatened extinction.

QPR had local businessman Jim Gregory to thank for really lighting a fire down in W12 in the late '60's (having been rebuffed by Fulham, his first love, as I have previously blogged). A League Cup win at Wembley heralded a jump from third to first, where the team came within a whisker of winning the title in 1975. Terry Venables and then Gerry Francis ran the midfield in teams that entertained and were packed with internationals and flair. We'll draw a veil under Fulham's decline over the same period. Suffice to say it was a very painful period for Whites supporters, and it endured for the best part of thirty years. That's a lot of hurt for many of us now down at the old Cottage and enjoying our place at the top table.

Such is the nature of Schadenfreude of course our elevation under al Fayed coincided with the Hoops hitting the skids, and how we secretly relished their fall from grace. Last October then saw us re-connect with our near neighbours once again, and on a balmy afternoon in the sun Fulham belied their slow start to the season by hitting Rangers for six! We could not have asked for anything more. AJ notched three, Danny tucked away a penalty with his usual aplomb, there were stand out goals from Clint and Bobby after quick incisive breaks. Rangers were run ragged.

How much has changed for the return we'll see this Saturday. For a start, our England centre-forward now runs out in blue and white hoops rather than Fulham kit. I'm still to come to terms with that piece of transfer business, only time will tell which manager got the better side of the bargain. And talking of which, as Rangers season soured after a bright start, Warnock was ruthlessly shoved out the door in January. Cue the arrival of Mr. Hughes, who despite being the busiest guy in the transfer window, still sees his side perilously close to the bottom.

We'll leave it there for now, as I want to deliberately leave room for your thoughts ahead of the game. But I shall be back before the big showdown. League positions seem to suggest we're all but clear of danger, while Rangers have a nine point deficit on us and are part of what looks like a five team 'mini league' fighting the drop. Let's see who has the bigger cojones come Saturday. By the way, thanks for all who are getting behind 'the Clint project' with helpful advice. We'll get there!

They've already won in my books. Seeing in Blue and White is going to be hard to witness but I take pleasure in knowing that he's much more happier where is now with our former manager. So towards Bobby there's no animosity for me, only gratitude.

Now for Mark Hughes however, let's just say I hope Clint pulls out another stellar own goal rocket from thirty yards out. Hell I wouldn't mind if midway through the game our strikers just began aiming their shots at Hughes. That's just me though. I might just try that tonight in FIFA 12.

Dollars to donuts that Zamora puts one in the back of the net. And I wouldn't be sad to see it so long as Fulham prevails.

Blog Central: I hope fans remember how important BZ's unselfish link up play was in making goals for others, and whenever Jol excluded him this season in away games we looked clueless up front.

After two weeks off I'm hoping they come out flying and don't stop the pressure. What will probably happen is Dempsey gets one and then we try to hold on for the 1-0 win.

Blog Central: You have to go back over a hell of a lot of away games to find the last time we actually defended a 1-0 lead away in the league. Check it out, your hair will turn grey...

I just want to see us string together a simple run of victories. We've been unable to get any momentum going this season. Consistently, we've followed solid wins with inexplicable struggles. Unfortunately, domestic and international breaks have played a role, so I'm less than optimistic that we'll ride the Stoke City momentum to an away win at Loftus Road coming off this most recent break. Hope I'm wrong, though.

Regarding your comments about QPR, I must say that in general terms I support ALL Fulham-size clubs to some extent. Some people pick their "enemies" on inner-city or regional rivalries, but not me. With me, it's very much "big guys v. little guys." I always enjoy Wigan, Bolton, or some other small/mid-sized club taking a bite out of ManU, Liverpool or Arsenal. Don't get me wrong, derby spoils make me smile, but for the most part, they're just another three points.

Blog Central: I'm with you on the David & Goliath thing. When young I couldn't get enough football. Fulham, Brentford and QPR were all a bus ride away and I went regularly to all three.

Trying to predict Fulham's away form is like trying to guess the winning lottery numbers. I just hope to see 90 minutes of fight from the team. A few of the away performances so far this year have been down right disgraceful.

I will have to skip the papers for a few days if QPR wins. Hughes has surely been working on a few smug comments including the word ambition.

I look foward to seeing the Pog on the pitch. For some reason I imgaine him roasting a fresh caught duck and taking shots of vodka for his pre game warm up.

Blog Central: As long as the ducks are not coming from H.M.'s royal parks. I was being facetious in that first post on our Russian import I hope everyone realised...

Here's hoping the lack of actual travel mitigates historical/typical away form. I'd usually ask for an early goal to set the mood, but the inability of the Whites to hold a lead is disheartening. Let's see some more of Pog closing on his opportunities, and Clint simply firing from everywhere on the pitch.

We should all want this one more than any other for the rest of the season. Simply for the way Hughes handled his departure and the aftermath. I will take great pleasure in a victory and great sorrow in defeat.

Am6iti0n. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Obviously we play a very different QPR squad this time around. This time, you have to talk about a few more things before you even get to Barton. Well, I could only hope for an out-right win away. We all know the history of our away performances, but we need to start taking points, and so I'd be pretty happy with a draw away.

Between Sparky and Martin Jol, I'll take Sparky. Hughes was aloof and arrogant (obviously), but at least he had the good sense not to disrupt Roy's formula.

Our defense has been poor of late, and I expect Bobby to exploit it -- if not with a goal, then with his link up play. Still, QPR's defense is even weaker than ours. It's a match we can win, if we go for it.

Senderos is out. I smell a win. Say what you will about Zamora leaving (and I've said it all) but there must have been a sigh of relief after January that the tension is gone, this is our team, and we're ready to move forward.

The team seems to like the big Russian (what do I know, but I get that sense from interviews) and it must be relaxing for the men to know they have their team and they're moving on.

I predict a 2-1 win. I'm hoping nutters Taraabt and Barton can't handle the big stage and let their emotions get the best of them. With Aaron and Brede steadying the ship, I think we can sneak a couple and get out of there with a win.

(Which is the surest sign ever of a crushing 3-0 defeat. Ah, Fulham.)

Blog Central: Absence of Senderos could be vital. Brede and Aaron know BZ's game inside out. Despite the rash of signings where Hughes looked to add firepower I think defensively QPR still look ordinary. Mackie must be shackled.

Not to ruin anyone's weekend, but Senderos is fit to play according to Jol's presser today. I'm sure he will remind Jol of the lock box full of comprimising pictures and be in the line up.

Blog Central: The age difference and Jol's mission to mould the team in his image means Senderos will play if fit. The boy had better have a good one!

On the topic of defending 1-nil leads away, here are a few off the top of my head:

1) Wigan away, October 2011. Led 1-nil until late in match when Dembele clinched it with a second goal sometime in the last five minutes of the match;

2) Portsmouth away, August 2009. Dempsey caromed one in of BZ's right cheek in the first half, and we made it stand in the season-opener;

3) Newcastle away, May 2009. Kamara goal stood against the 10-man Magpies, setting up Fulham into Europa and Toon into the Championship the following season-ending weekend;

4) Reading away, April 2008. A McBride goal midway through the first half stood and was supplemented by Nevland in stoppage time. This 2-nil win ended the 33-match away hoodoo without a win and occurred in the midst of Reading's six-match run late that season without a goal that helped us stay up. You may recall that we stayed up over them on goal diff.

And while not in the League, our goal after 20 seconds at Wolfsburg stood (1-nil).

Probably deserved a draw. Was it just me of did Fulham play better when QPR had 11 men on the pitch? Our away effort is as usual hard to watch.
