Ten months ago we began our blog affair dear reader, sharing a common allegiance to Fulham FC and looking to spread the word. My aim from the outset was simply to serve up the most authoritative, lively and readable Premiership blog on the ESPNsoccernet site.
For an archived record of Fulham's 10th successive season in the Premier League, this campaign has been a wonderful journey for me personally. At the end of it I have a collective body of work to reflect upon that sums up the ecstatic highs and morbid lows of being madly, irrationately and passionately wedded to this great little football club down by the river.

Shankly knew. It really is so much more than just a game. I'm no sentimentalist or believer in the hereafter, but in this, a first full season without my Dad - he died on the eve of the Juventus home tie - often I found myself looking skywards after a Fulham goal hoping he was looking down on the Cottage. That side of the ground has barely changed from the time he first took me along in the 1950's. The last thing left to us after decrepitude takes hold are memories. Most of my fondest will come from time watching Fulham.
Our title above encapsulates a season, that till late spring was balanced on a knife edge. Not 30 minutes into game four of a 38 match season, and with three goals in his previous two games, Bobby Zamora had his ankle shattered by a lunging Karl Henry tackle. Our reborn centre forward would have gone to the World Cup that summer but for an Achilles problem that required surgery, having pushed himself through the pain barrier on a needs must basis for the Europa League cause. A season lost advancing his international credentials for BZ ,and when the new manager opened the cupboards at Motspur, Elm, Okaka and Nevland had gone, and little AJ was still holding his knee. We were up against it...
Strangely, the questions being posed from the first blogs of last July still apply now. Who should be keeping goal, do we have a problem at full-back, has Murphy much more to give, surely we need cover up front?
'Where next for the Europa League runners-up' was the title for my very first piece. Now all we have to ask is where next for the side finishing 8th? 7th is our all time best finish thanks to Roy two years ago. Improving on that is going to require a seismic shift in how Fulham operates. The wage structure would have to go through the roof. Is it going to happen on gates of 25,000? Doing an 'Arry and breaking into the top four...Fulham in the Champions League???
The one thing Mark above all got right when coming down was stability in our playing style. Apart from a belated and long overdue improvement in away form, where Roy was indeed overcautious, the side that gave Arsenal such a scare Sunday was still playing very much in the style of Hodgson. It was almost 4-5-1 at times with BZ roaming out to the flanks to stretch the centre backs. Sadly, I remain of the conclusion AJ is no longer the man to profit from the spaces. He's lost a vital yard of zip and ability to take on the last man - you saw that many times Sunday - and there's no gunpowder in the boots anymore. No goal at home from AJ all season...and he's the top earner?
As to Zollie's three minute cameo...what was going on there? It almost gives credence to the conspiracy theory that Mark has sent the side out to scupper the Fair Play route back into Europe. Surely not?
On which note, I shall be back later in the week once UEFA have determined our fate. After that we can draw a line under the season, discuss the new away shirt, your hopes for next season, new signings wish list, season high and lows, and where we're all going on our hols.
In the meantime, big shout out to Stockers and Zamo for making the England squad - and thanks for contributing to the Number One blog in the Prem!
Twitter @fulhamphil / PS I did forecast Blackpool and B'ham for the drop - did ya notice?

A huge congrats to both players for this incredible honor.
Fulham- I'm not sure what to say except in Fifa 11,Be a Pro mode, there is and always will be one club that I choose to play with.
A huge congrats and thanks to you Phil, for allowing all of us Fulham fans to have one central location to channel all of our passion and love for this wonderful club, and for finishing in the top 10. Oftern the underdog and constantly overlooked, we have the vast majority of the EPL looking up at us at the table.
Cheers to a great campaign and for many more to come.
Oh and of course I couldn't leave without saying...He scores with his left, he scores with his right, that boy DEMPSEY makes Drogba look like shite!

Well done bobby zeeee and stockers!!!
I think finishing 8th this year is a fantastic achievement! Credit to mark hughues for a fantastic job i just hope we spend wisely this transfer window and can compete for 7th maybe even 6th spot next season! although i think the standards will rise next season with everton and villa upping their game! Also if we qualify for europe we may just have to compete for a top 10 finish!!
either way i'm a happy fulham fan

Thanks for keeping us up to date on the goings on within the club. Not all of us are lucky enough to be able to be season ticket holders (for geographic or economic reasons). Keep up the good work! I do have a question though. After the Gera foul, he didn't seem to acknowledge anyone (although the crowd did cheer him off). Could that foul have been an FU to Hughes for not playing him? I'd like to think that the club wouldn't intentionally throw away a chance to shine in Europe.
Blog Central: Nor does any professional footballer deliver such a public snub to a manager when he is in the market looking to impress potential new employers...well Ballotelli maybe. Knowing it's a long and lonely walk into the Cottage I think Gera just felt acute embarassment. In truth, the tackle was brainless and probably cost us two points.

Season's over. A more than respectable 8th place finish. I have my issues with Sparky, but results are results, and the achievement of 8th place stands by itself.
I shall not complain about anything, today. Though, if we extend Danny Murphy's contract or sign some 30-something journeyman defensive midfielder from some Championship side then all bets are off.
Well done, lads. Well done, Sparky. Well done, Al Fayed. And, well done, Phil.

Assuming a squad at full strength, I'm really curious to see the team Hughes fields next year. There are some tough choices to make, especially in the midfield.
The biggest positive this year was our improved road record. Kudos to Sparky on changing our approach.
The biggest disappointment has to be the performance against the top six. In 12 league matches we were winless, including home thrashings against Man City and Liverpool. For next year to be a success, Hughes will have to improve on those results.
Really appreciate your blogging, Phil. Always great stuff.

Great work all season, Phil. I've really enjoyed the opinions and insight.
I haven't posted many comments but I've enjoyed reading them all. From Vital_Teddy's rage for Hughes to Jessica's undying love for all things Fulham (but especially Clint) and to everyone in between. It's been a really fun season. Let's hope we get a chance at another long journey through Europe!
One last thing, do you think there's any chance the team moves Schwartzer for a decent transfer fee this summer and uses that money to shore up holes elsewhere? Stockdale seems poised to take over...

Thank you, Phil--your blog has been a joy to read all year. I'm a relative newcomer to the ranks of Fulham supporters. It started in 1999. I was in London on business. I was a casual football fan from Canada, and I knew that Paul Peschisolido played for Fulham. I asked the hotel concierge if Fulham was playing at home that weekend. He was rather surprised that I was interested in a Division Two club, but told me they were indeed playing at the Cottage, and that I would have no problem getting tickets.
My wife and I headed to the Cottage. I ended up in the wrong queue--I had my credit card, but I was in a "cash only" queue. SEVERAL people offered to lend me the cash to buy my tickets, saying I could get cash from an ATM inside and pay them back!
Once inside, we saw Fulham thrash Blackpool, and had a delightful time. The crowd was friendly to newcomers such as ourselves and celebrating impending promotion. A dedicated Fulham supporter was born!
Great season & kudos to Stockers and Zamo!
Blog Central: Hayles, Horsefield, Finnan & Symonds the scorers I believe in one of Keegan's last games before taking on the England job. I also have cause to remember that season fondly. I correctly forecast all 4 divisional winners in August and turned a £10 bet into 2 grand. Should have seen the bookie's face when I went back in May!

Phil,
Great blog, great club, great season, and greater things to come!
I couldn't agree with Bobert360 more:
"Fulham- I'm not sure what to say except in Fifa 11,Be a Pro mode, there is and always will be one club that I choose to play with."

Still waiting for Jessica's end of the season comments. Loved her insight along with Phil's high quality all season. I look forward to Stockdale taking on a larger role next year. I too love the black -- that olive was dreadful.
Blog Central: Jessica, your fan club awaits...

Cheers Phil!
brilliant blog. This season has been a topsy-turvy one when Bobby was hacked down I feared for the worst, and the results proved how invaluable he is to us.
Congrats though to Mark Hughes and all the players for rebounding, keeping calm and persisting despite hovering close to the relegation zone. And improving our away form!
As ever the main thing to look forward to now is transfers! AJ to go I reckon, to one of the promoted teams and hopefully we can bring in a fresh centre midfielder/striker.
Moussa's only going to improve next season, can't wait.
and the new away kit is quite nice have to say, very in the style of Roma's past kits

Well we did not tank to get out of the Europa Cup. i also love the shirt.
And is that the beloved ex-Fulham player Brian Mcbride blogging above.
If so, it proves that you are forever a Fulham convert, even when you have left.
See you all in 34 days time when we play our first game in the Europa League. We better start getting our squad ready.

great season overall. funny to bring in a litte used sub and the only thing that he accomplishes is a well deserved red card and a likely loss of the fair play slot. we should have taken an offer for Swartzer during the last transfer window when he had value as Stockdale is clearly our number one choice (and was then) I follow the cottagers from the US mostly because of Dempsey but I like the whole side. too bad the owner sold Harrods MJ would have looked better in the basement.
