Out of the Carling Cup at Stoke after woeful defending for both goals. But yet again we are left to fume as another outrageous tackle sees one of our players leave on a stretcher. Now it's Dembele facing a long lay off.

It gives me no pleasure to gloat, but refer back to my preview of this trip to Stoke. Two headed goals conceded from set pieces, Mark dreadfully at fault for both. With Jones 2nd from Delap's long throw our big keeper looks like he's trying to flag down a passing cab. Truly awful! I got my wish to see Gera start but how worrying that we play the last 35 minutes with no recognised winger. And yet again we are on the back foot from the off.

Industrial football indeed triumphs as the Whites are out-fouled by the same margin as Saturday, 14-8 the count at the Britannia. And in the final minute with the game dead Stoke's full-back hammers Dembele's standing leg to leave him writhing in agony. No wonder Hughes can barely bring himself to shake the hand of Pulis at the final whistle, nor does he mince his words in the post-match interview.

More shots at goal at least from our boys, but mostly off target. Hate to say it again, but I sensed this was coming. Report back here 6.00 pm Friday when I will be announcing the weekend's lottery numbers.

Only good news of the night, Everton dumped out as well at Brentford. I know its a man's game, but when is this thuggery against our players going to end???

all of a sudden mark goes from a top 3 keeper in the league to many, even publically, rueing the fact that our previously distant number 2 is out injured? what has happened?

How quickly the prospects for the season have changed. Before the Zamora injury, deep cup runs and a Top 7 finish were the goals for the season. With Zamora and Dembele sideline for an extended period it seems staying clear of the relegation battle may be the ceiling for the season. With Schwarzer in poor form I should say a top 16 finish may be a success at this moment. Sad.

Any word on Dembele? I didn't see the challenge, but it sounded bad.

Blog Central: It was!

The thuggery won't stop until refs start handing out reds.

It is pretty clear now that Fulham should have let Schwarzer go after seeing how well Stockdale played the first couple matches. If anything maybe his injury is what prevented the move from happenning as Zub has been the back up the past few years anyway, but they appearently have no confidence in him actually playing.

Perhaps Schwarzer is in such a frame of mind to play for Arsenal he is playing like their keepers...

Anyway, sounded like Fulham has the better of possesion but as usual can translate it into goals. I think they do need some true wing play and width. Perhaps Riise should have gotten a run out. He puts in decent crosses and has good pace.

Dempsey, Gera, and Dembele are all tweeners. Not quite wingers and not quite strikers. It makes it hard to have any width with all 3 on the pitch as they all crash the box instead of putting in crosses.

Fortunately, the latest report is that Dembele will only miss 2 weeks. Let's hope that's correct.

Unrelated to Phil's article, but a serious question I have nonetheless:

Why is Stephen Kelly on the pitch? Apparently Hughes rates him? Even IF Pantsil were injured, I thought the deputy right back (AND left back, where Hughes played Kelly before Salcido was available) would be utility man Chris Baird or even some young blood long before Stephen Kelly was allowed on the pitch. Phil? Anyone?

Take a stand for it... join AFC in taking this up to the FA. This cannot continue like this... Good luck travelling up to Blackburn (the club with the most racist name in football).

i thought thugery was just part of football and so also hard tackles,im a barca fan,so pls lets just believed that all this tackles frm stoke,b'gham and the rest are just part of football, the injured players will soon get over it,at least they enjoy the priviledge of playing for the best league in the world.

Blog Central: Of course the 'best league in the world,' that's why we are miles away from winning another WC.

Funny things could turn around quickly,

Mark Hughes was asked last week about Wenger comments on bad tackles, he said " i haven`t noticed it and don`t think there is a trend", and he said on tuesday night ,
"The tackle that took him (Dembele) out was, from my point of view, an absolutely ridiculous challenge at that stage of the game. There was no need for the challenge at that late stage in the game and he has put a fellow professional's career at risk by the nature of it. I don't know what the hell he was thinking about to be perfectly honest."

Did i hear Mr Hughes say fellow professional career at risk??????

Mr Hughes, now you know how Wenger felt when he had seen more than 3 of his players` leg snapped into two in the last four years.
And some of them (i.e. Eduardo, ..) never recovered from it and has seen their careers gone.

Bobby Zamora may have seen the last of his England international career gone, because he might not be the same player.
These tackles MUST be stopped

The squad is in trouble...

My least favorite team used to be Liverpool (even before Hodgson went there), but now Wolves and Stoke have taken that dubious honor.

The part that bothers me is how late this challenge was. 90th minute, game out of reach, and you make a challenge like THAT!?!?

Hope both clubs get relegated...and just happy to have our early thug schedule (Wolves, Blackburn, and Stoke) out of the way.

I wonder.... as a player myself, if i was tackled like dembele, i would wait till next game against stoke and take wilkinson out nie and early so as to just get a yellow, cus if he does it late on it would be a straight red, just as wilkinson deserved to get... will hughes take this into account net time they play? maybe play dembele on the opposite wing? or will he trust dembele to be proffesional, and accept it as part of the game? i dont know how a tackle like that can be taken as part of the game, but a mans game should include some retribution once in a while i say

Welcome to the club....

There are certain teams in the Prem that know the only way they will win is to foul...Stoke and Blackburn are at the top of the list.

They play long ball offense and foul first defense. It is disgusting to watch and until the FA review games and hand out bans after the match, it will continue.

Stoke ended Ramsey's season last year, had dembele stretchered off yesterday...who is next?

From the Fulham Website...'Following the injury to Mousa Dembele sustained during the Carling Cup fixture against Stoke, the Club can confirm that an x-ray showed there was no fracture to the ankle, however an MRI scan has revealed some ligament damage, that will need to recover, prior to a return to training.' Not as bad as feared, but still a couple of weeks out it would appear. Overall, this is good news.

Blackburn and Stoke for the drop, karma will come back to these meatheads. they don't belong in the same league!

Blog Central: Yes, but when will KAMARA come back?
