With new manager Mark Hughes watching on from the stands Fulham lost their first pre-season friendly at Fratton Park to relegated Portsmouth. Hughes would not have been happy that the Whites conceded the winner to Mark Wilson's header from a corner after half an hour.
A reverse scoreline from 12 months ago at Fratton Park when Fulham stole all three points with a lucky goal that deflected home off Bobby Zamora's backside in a game that mattered. It was of course the Whites only away win in the whole of last season's league programme.
Zamora again looked the man most likely to notch another from the Fulham ranks in this testimonial for Linvoy Primus - a player incidentally Ray Lewington had an agreement to sign from Charlton for a pittance many moons ago. The then board would not release the money!
One welcome face back in the Fulham ranks was the return of Mark Schwarzer in goal. Fulham starting XI: Schwarzer, Pantsil, Hughes, Hangeland, Konchesky, Davies, Baird, Murphy, Duff, Gera, Zamora.
It was no surprise that Fulham turned in their most docile performance thus far in friendly action as we must assume input from Hughes in preparation for the game was at a minimum. As predicted in this blog the transfer rumours surrounding us are already gathering pace. We will be assessing the action from Fratton Park in greater depth and examining the crystal ball to see who is out and who might be in at Craven Cottage in the coming days.
