Taking a trip to eastern Russia for a Europa League match is not an easy chore for any English club. Despite a two-goal advantage heading into Thursday's match with Amkar Perm, there were still some nervy supporters hoping that the Cottagers could put behind Sunday's loss to Chelsea and right the ship in Russia. Fortunately, the Cottagers were able to withstand the Russians on this day and despite losing the match 1-0, the Whites advanced to the group stage with a 3-2 aggregate win to advance.

Fulham's glorious start to the 2009-2010 season came to a halt on Sunday when neighbors Chelsea dominated the Cottagers en route to a 2-0 win. While the loss did come to the team many people are picking to win the Premier League title, the manner in which Fulham played leads us all to clearly see that the level of play between the top four clubs and the rest of the league is vastly different.

Over the course of the last six or seven years, being a Fulham supporter has meant you have taken your fair share of losses and tough times along the way. From the numerous end of season relegation battles to the lack of signings to woeful managerial decisions, it was very difficult to remain positive about the state of FFC. However, after last seasons's club best 7th place finish and the wonderful start in league play and the Europa League, my mindset and attitude toward the club has changed.

Over the course of the eight seasons Fulham has been in the Premier League there has been one constant problem, winning on the road. During last season's club best 7th place finish, the Cottagers won only three times on its travels. On Saturday, Fulham went against the trends of years past and opened up the season with a nice 1-0 road win at Fratton Park to give the club the kind of start in league play and on the road we were all hoping for.

The 2009-2010 Premier League season begins in earnest on Saturday in what should turn out to be a very entertaining and competitive season in arguably the best club league in the world. It is hard to believe that just three months ago we as Fulham supporters were completing the magical 2008-2009 season that vaulted us in the Europa League.

Unfortunately, last season is over. This season will bring about new challenges and question for Roy Hodgson and his squad.

For the first time since 2002, Craven Cottage played host to a European match. Despite the rain and lousy conditions, Fulham put smiles on the faces of its' home supporters with a big second half en route to a 3-0 win over FK Vetra and an aggregate score of 6-0 to advance to the play-off knockout round of the inaugural Europa League competition.
