Fulham

Sunday at Wigan marked the fifth time in six matches that Fulham has had to play on the road following a midweek Europa League contest. The Cottagers battled hard at the DW Stadium and earned a 1-1 draw which moves them up to a respectable 11th in the Premier League table. The bigger issue though is why the Premier League schedule makers have made the Cottagers travel almost every weekend following a European match. It does not make sense and really makes you wonder if the Premier League is hoping Fulham fails at either the Europa League or even the Premier League.

Throughout the first half of Thursday's Europa League tie with AS Roma, Fulham was clearly the better side. The Cottagers controlled possession and took a halftime lead thanks to Diomansy Kamara penalty in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, the second half was a disaster for Fulham and the Cottagers fell to the Romans 2-1 and leave themselves with some major work to try and qualify for the knockout stage of this competition.

In the previous four matches against Liverpool, Fulham had scored a whopping zero goals against the Reds. On Saturday, they tripled the total and added to Liverpool's early season misery with a stunning 3-1 win over Rafa Benitez and his Merseysiders.

Fifteen minutes into the second half on Sunday at the City of the Manchester Stadium things did not look good for Fulham. Down 2-0 and facing an uphill battle against the Premier League rich boys Manchester City, the Cottagers showed the fight and determination they have so often displayed throughout Roy Hodgson's nearly two year tenure at the helm as Fulham pulled back two goals to earn a point in a 2-2 draw.

After a week off for international duty, the spotlight of Monday Night Football was on Fulham and Hull City at Craven Cottage. Fortunately for Cottager fans it was Hull City that looked rusty as the Cottagers scored on either side of halftime and cruised to a 2-0 win.

A draw on the road in the Premier League is usually seen as a positive result for most sides. While I was happy with Fulham's 2-2 draw on Sunday at Upton Park against West Ham United, it did sting a bit seeing the Hammers even things up late in stoppage time to grab a share of the points in this London derby.

Fulham is in 17th place after Saturday's tough 1-0 loss to Arsenal. Truth be told, I feel Fulham deserved at least a share of the points as the Cottagers were in control for large chunks of the match. But credit to Arsenal for holding on and getting the win in a tough place like Craven Cottage.

Wolves? We lost to freakin' Wolves on Sunday. That is what was going through my head Sunday as I watched the events unfold in the East Midlands. That my friend is not a good thing. After fielding a team of reserves mid-week in the Europa League against CSKA Sofia, the regulars were back in action and looked as though they were going through the motions at Molineaux as the hosts picked apart of dysfunctional Cottager team en route to an easy 2-1 win for Wolves.

Having looked at the line-up that Roy Hodgson fielded in Fulham's Europa League group stage debut against CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria, I wondered to myself whether the Cottagers were taking this competition seriously. Only keeper David Stockdale and John Paintsil remained in the line-up from Sunday's 2-1 win over Everton. Instead, the likes of 19-year-old central defender Chris Smalling and Stephen Kelly were in the starting line-up in Bulgaria.

While the Cottagers did draw the match 1-1, the bigger question I have is whether the line-up fielded by Roy Hodgson is the type of line-up we will see throughout each of the remaining group stage matches?

When Fulham signed Damien Duff just over a month ago, I was a bit skeptical of it. I was not sure if Duff could regain the magic that made him one of the more feared left wingers in the Premier League. My skepticism in Duff is now officially over as the Irishman scored a cracker of a goal in the 79th minute to help earn the Cottagers a hard fought 2-1 come from behind win over Everton at Craven Cottage.
