It seems increasingly likely that Lescott will become a City player in the next few days, for a fee of about 22 million if reports are to be believed.

Not long ago the club were saying we wouldn't be selling our best players and apparently had stuck a 30 million price tag on Lescott's head. So the 22 million fee - whilst representing a healthy profit - is still a bit of a dissapointment if they've back down in this way, especially given that we'll have to pay an inflated fee to get a replacement on the back of everyone knowing we have money to burn on a new center half.
I'd have liked to see them play hardball on this and tell city to pay the 30 million now, upfront, or go looking elsewhere for a center back. If we don't need the money and don't need to sell our best players then what have we got to lose by doing that? The only obvious risk there is that if Lescott wants to go then you shouldn't keep a player who doesn't want to play for you. But I think on this occasion we shouldn't worry - it's world cup year and he'll be going all out to impress the England manager no matter where he's playing his football. And he doesn't strike me as a sulker.
So it stinks that we'll be weakening ourselves against one of our rivals for next season.
Oviously we don't know everything that goes on behind the scenes now and Moyes is not daft, he'll have considered keeping Lescott against his wishes. If Lescott goes though we need a damn fine replacement and although I'll be glad to see Senderos come in as cover, we need a more experienced and solid replacement.
Samba from Blackburn or Hengelaand from Fulham for example. Hopefully the departure will see a flurry of transfer activity and some astute signings. After watching the game against Blackpool the other night I'd be worried if we start the campaign with a center half pairing of Yobo and Rodwell against Arsenal. Time will tell though and there isn't long to go until opening day so let's see what unfolds.

well it's difficult to stop player from moving...so far DM has done a very good job in keeping core players...but i doubt everton can break the top 4 with current situation..players like lescott is highly motivate n want to wins something every season...so the best way is finding a billionaire to buy the team and invest on new 'only world class' players..after all i think DM have better team compare to Mark Hughes city last season..but this season city look stronger than everton..

This is win-win deal because Everton can make a good profit. In addition, Lescott can move to City as his wish.

And Tony, keep in mind that Wolves own a piece of Lescott too so that isn't even really 22 million to go in the war chest...I don't know the percentages on that deal. If it was to a team that wasn't challenging for the same spots in the table I would feel much better about the deal.

u r right dbk...so city need to increase the offer.30 million may be. by the way i'm impresse with everton. They may be among the smallest team but they can get consistency in term of result.keep it up DM...we never knw the future...
