The 0-0 draw with Newcastle United was hugely overshadowed by the early departure of Mikel Arteta with a nasty looking injury. You know it's bad if they go down in agony unchallenged, and it has now been confirmed that he'll miss around six months - so he's certainly out for the season.
Where our season goes from here is anybody's guess but it's obviously a huge blow to the team. We've battled on without strikers and key players all season but this is a hammer blow, especially given how well Arteta's been playing since he switched to center midfield.

Everton took on Bolton with virtually the same group who played 120 minutes on Wednesday and have done so well in the last month against the league's top sides - the one exception being the inclusion of on-loan Jo. But any fears that they'd be too exhausted to get 3 points were easily swept away as the blues turned in some excellent attacking football, and Jo capped a great debut with two goals in a 3-0 win.

The Gosling Derby will go down in folklore. Finally the Reds got what they deserved and all the talk of small clubs, defensive tactics, tesco and sock robbing (!) came to nothing as Everton ran out deserved winners as Liverpool desperately tried to hang on for penalties.

After two very creditable draws against Liverpool and Arsenal, Everton suffered defeat at Old Trafford thanks to a first half penalty from Ronaldo. The blues looked tired after their recent excertions and never really looked like getting on the score sheet - hopefully they were saving it for wednesday night's cup replay against the kopites.
