There’s no point in beating about the bush, this has been a torrid time for Chelsea fans alike.

It is difficult to pinpoint where and why things have gone so wrong in the last month or so, whether it was the sacking of Wilkins, the build up of injuries or if Ancelotti, like many before him, has simply lost the dressing room.

Yesterday’s performance against Spurs though was a relief, even if it was only a draw. It showed signs that we are turning the corner.

The match against Newcastle brought many positives with it, but the match against Spurs was far more convincing – and for the first time in weeks looked like the Chelsea of old.

Spurs are no mugs – although much of their faithful are – and we put up a fight and in all honesty had them hanging on in the latter stages of the game.

On top of that, lest we not forget that we didn’t win there last season. So think of it one point gained, rather than two points dropped.

We were certainly vulnerable to the break, but that isn’t always a bad thing, we were vulnerable to the break because we were up the pitch fighting for the win.

John Terry was an absolute rock, his solidity yesterday vindicating exactly why the Chelsea fans hold him in such esteem. He played exactly how a captain should, and his attitude would’ve surely spread throughout the team.

Paulo Ferreira also endeared himself to us with a superb performance against the deadly figure of Gareth Bale. Who eventually had to resort to diving around in order to get Spurs in attacking positions, he didn’t have it his way for once. Tactically Ancelotti got it spot on, keep Ferreira there just to monitor Bale.

However for their goal this did backfire as Ferreira was out of position watching Bale whilst Ivanovic got pulled into the right back area, thus the ball was played to Pavluychenko in the centre with Obi Mikel covering in a role he isn’t suited to.

Didier Drogba looked dangerous, something he has been struggling to do for a while and quite rightly was dropped from the starting line up. Maybe it was the kick up the posterior that the Ivorian was in need of. Complacency is common-place with somebody who is regarded as first on the team sheet.

Seeing Frank Lampard back is a major boost to our chances. If we are to win the league we need players like Lampard in the centre fighting for the team. It has been majorly apparent in his absence how much of an influence he is on the team.

Our midfield has looked lightweight of late, and with Essien getting back to full fitness too we will hopefully regain our presence as a force.

Ramires does once again deserve some credit for a solid performance, he really seems to have worked on that side of his game, though his passing still needs some work, it would be hard on him to bemoan his inclusion yesterday. He truly gave it his all.

It isn’t all rosy though.

Anelka looked like Le Sulk had taken over his body once again, and was of absolutely no use to the team yesterday. His positioning at times was abominable, it was as if we had a defence and a midfield. The attack was missing. Malouda and Kalou were effectively midfielders.

Understandably with Anelka it is a desire for the ball at his feet that sees him drop deep, but in a game like yesterday’s we cannot risk not having a player there for the hoof balls up the pitch.

I have often stated that Chelsea play route one football with style, Anelka needs to adapt in that situation and use his ball skills to retain possession in forward positions.

Our goal is the perfect example, Cech – Hoof – Drogba – Goal.

Had Drogba not been on the pitch Cech’s kick would have simply found a bank of Spurs players.

Now, Kalou. Where do we start with him?

A word often bandied around alongside the name of Kalou is potential.

He has had potential now for four seasons, it is about time that this potential was turned into skill or class. But it hasn’t.

It is unclear to me what he has done to warrant a starting place in this Chelsea side, Daniel Sturridge came on and provided a much more effective duty in the same position.

There are times when I have sided with Kalou, for all of his bad finishing at least he is effective on the ball at times. That seems to have been lost from his game, so now he is running around the pitch ineffective on the ball and even worse in front of goal. Barn door certainly comes to mind.

I would be surprised if Kalou manages to keep his starting place this weekend, a midfield of Lampard, Essien, & Mikel should be enough to force him out with Malouda and Anelka partnering Drogba upfront.

It is a shame when you give up hope on a player, but in all honesty he doesn’t cut it. He has never been sure of his position (attacker, attacking midfielder, winger) and has never fulfilled his potential.

This is the player than Marco Van Basten begged his government for a passport in order to be eligible for Holland at the World Cup in 2006. If the situation arose now Van Basten would be begging for his deportation.

Enough moaning now though, it is time to start thinking a lot more upbeat. We showed signs of recovery, now we need to fulfil our own potential and answer the questions we have been posed throughout the last month.

Not just for the fans but for Ancelotti, it saddens me to see him under pressure. I can’t quibble with him for what he has brought to this club, in terms of his great personality but also a style of football we have never been party to at the Bridge.

Big day on Sunday. Certainly could turn the season back in our favour. Also here’s hoping for a draw this evening.

Keep The Blue Flag Flying High!

That match against Spurs now bringN the true colour of chelsea. They should try and keep the tempo up.NO RETREAT NO SURRENDER.The tactical formations in the second half is okay.

We have to beat man u. at all cost. thats the only way to get our season back on. Glad to have lamps back. Man u has three points ahead of us, if we lose to them we might well be ten points behind if they also win theoir outstanding. Beat em blues, beat em.

CHELSEA'S BLUES HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WILKINS DEPARTURE, THE SKID STARTED BEFORE HE LEFT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THEY HAVE NO DEPTH. THEY LET CARVALHO, DECO, BALLACK, JOE COLE LEAVE. ALL KEY PLAYERS WHO COULD HAVE STEPPED IN TO FILL THE VOID IN CASE ANY OF THE STARTERS GET INJURED BUT NOW ALL THEY HAVE IS ZHIRKOV AND RAMIRES. ENJOY THE SEASON CHELSEA FANS, ITS GOING TO BE A LOOOOOONG ONE.

Man u must fall. That should be the word on all chelsea players lips.Carlo is a good coach but its obvious that he needs to get fresh legs injected into the team.He took a big gamble against spurs, removing a midfielder 4 a striker and it paid off.Blues 4 life

At the start of the season, Ancelotti has say his team are playing play-station football, but in the end, teams like mu, mc, arsenal has chasen up, included mu who has much more goal difference and points above chelsea, which has a game in spare. I don't think they have a chance to won, even lampard is back. If they continued to fade, they will never win any trophy this year. If Chelsea can ensured a point this Sunday, they maybe have a chance of regaining top stop after Christmas.

I am sure Chelsea will beat Man U. We need 2 more defenders like Cavilho who can play in harmony with JT. We need 2 more attackers like Tevez and Fabiano from Sevilla. We need a winger like Lennon from Spurs.

Posted by REUBEN on 12/17/2010

THE COACH SHOULD GIVE MEACHRAN OR JOSH MORE PLAYING TIME.HE SHOULD STOP EXPERIMENTING WITH RAMIRES, ALLOW MIKEL TO PLAY HIS LONG PASSES SO THAT DROGBA THAT CAN SEE MORE OF THE BALL AGAINST MAN U. THANKS.

Posted by Nero Frank on 12/17/2010

The problem with Chelsea is that Carlo keeps using Ramires so he wont be accused of wasting millions on him. He is not suited to Chelseas kind of football but Carlo has stapled his life to Ramires Chelsea carrer.
He dosent have the dept to play that important role in a team like Chelsea.
QED!

ManU will tear them apart on sunday. Chelsea has no moral and obviously no luck.
What chelsea facing now is much smaller injury crisis than ManU had last season. No first team defender at one point.. haha.
Sorry chelsea.. this is just what you deserve and your place.. Long Live ManU. Long Live Sir AF. ManU forever.. red blooded

chelsea needs to go back to playing the 4-1-2-1-2 that we played last year and the second half of the tottenham game. we attacked with real menance once drogba came on and they switched to this position.

Posted by Hristo Ivanov on 12/20/2010

Let's be realistic guys. This year Chelsea will find it difficult to be champions once again. With this depth in our team we can fight for top four. These are the final years of the Mourinho team. Mourinho made the spine of this team with this players. Afer him there was not a couch to think about the future of this team. Hidding, Scolari, Grant and even Anceloti are only using this spine for silverware. So hopefuly we can build on from the youngsers this season.

Posted by flying blues on 12/20/2010

Why no comment on drogba's Penalty miss?

Also can not agree more on Anelka.. With the drastic period now gone, we should again shift our focus on title. and for that we need players, players who can come in and start performing right away..May be the likes of Modric in Midfield and contrao in defence also they should quit chasing players, like they did with Neymar so just try on players who wanna come......

Posted by sam on 12/21/2010

Tim Cahil(Everton) to Chelsea. One of the best scoring midfielders in the league and the most underrated player. Solid on Tackles and at the same time understands attacking football. His aerial ability is unmatched in the league. Just ask the record keepers....hmmm...something to think about.

Posted by John Lyons on 12/21/2010

We need to be patient the team will rebound and we will be back to winning ways soon. Drogba, Anelka and company are not performing 100% but with Lampard back we should be in pole position in about six weeks.

It seems so odd being in Fourth place and I am almost ashamed to look at the table but I believe that Chelsea have enough experience to overcome this minor blip.

Write-off Chelsea at your own peril because we have given the other teams a chance to dream !

Chelsea is good team.but still we need to remov some players in the squad. What is anelka doing now noting, kalou is playin notin but selfish.we need to change, today we are in 5th posotion wat a shame for us.

Posted by Ray on 01/08/2011

my best time is watching chelsea playing, i look 4ward 2 the weekend, but it has being disappointing.
chelsea has to change their way of playing, they hadly take long distance shot, which is what is helping the other small teams, they also keep possession in their own half, instead pushing 4ward, they cannot comeback because they play without spirit
we still keeping our faith, but with the way of playing are we going to win any trophy?

I would also have to say I cmpelotely disagree with ZM about Lennon's defending I thought Cole was allowed pretty much a free reign down the left and was not dealt with at all well.
