In what is currently turning out to be the most boring transfer window since transfer windows began, Chelsea finally gave the press some good hard facts to write about with the exits of Joe Cole, Michael Ballack and least surprisingly Juliano Belleti.

Transfer windows are always a difficult time when saying goodbye to the players who after years of service will be plying their trade elsewhere, but the sentiment this time round must be one signalling change.

Ballack for me was the bigger shock than Joe Cole. Rarely have Chelsea signalled their intent to keep Cole on the books. Whereas the general consensus that Ballack as a utility player for two more years would be a bonus.

Of course Cole brought much flair and his goal against Man United last year was one of the most important of the season, but he is worthy of more than a bit-part role in the Premier League and unfortunately last season was surplus to requirements in a double winning team.

Belletti meanwhile was never really signed as a first choice player, but turned out to be an immensely versatile player who never complained when asked to do a job in any position lacking a space - thus becoming a fans favourite very quickly, often accompanied by the shout of "shooooot" owing to his ferocious shooting abilities from long distances.

This is just the start of an exodus which is sure to be followed the Portuguese compatriots Deco, Ferreira and sadly Carvalho.

The only salve in this situation of losing much beloved stalwarts of Chelsea is the addition of players who are born and bred in the youth team and new, exciting signings!
