What a horrible week it has been for the Blues.

Starting with the defeat in Milan after a terrific team performance, compounded with the horror show that was the 4-2 defeat to Man City on home territory.

Seventeen years ago I was a fresh faced youngster attending, I think, my third ever Chelsea match against Manchester City. The last time we ever lost to City at home in fact, and yes you guessed it - we ended up losing 4-2.

Football is a funny old game indeed.

City have now taken 6 points from us this season, and with all melodrama aside, swept us off our feet in what is possibly one of the worst second half performances in a home game in my memory.

Television pundits here in the UK were quick to pounce upon the fact that we dominated City for 44 minutes of that game, it was the remaining 46 that were the problem.

After the game I had a discussion with a fellow fan on the way to the tube station, and he was insistent that it was all down to Carlo Ancelotti's substitution choices - which weren't exactly inspired, but we lost that game as soon as we lost focus and Craig Bellamy ran alongside Mikel unchallenged for almost half the pitch and knocked in their second past a hapless and helpless Hilario.

What has frustrated me the most about this match in the last two years is the comparison between us and Man City, what with both teams both being bought out and funded by rich owners.

There have been 18 years of Premier League football, and only in 5 seasons have Man City managed to sneak into the top half of the table, with 9th being their highest placed finish.

We haven't been lower than 6th place since before the 1996/97 season and had reached the Champions' League twice before actually being bank rolled by Abramovich.

This is in stark contrast to the project undertaken at City, they were a team who needed to be rebuilt completely - whereas we had domestic cup success, higher league table finishes (in all but one season) and European attendance to our name.

Back to us though. If we are to win the league this season we must stop making these fundamental errors. Cesc Fabregas accused his team of making schoolboy errors just the other week, and we have been caught doing exactly the same.

The two sending offs were ridiculous on our part, Belletti struggling to atone for allowing Barry the space to beat him for strength and pace, and Ballack struggling to atone for yet another poor performance.

There is only one player who deserves any credit for their performance on Saturday, and that is Didier Drogba who didn't stop for breath once during the game. Running around the pitch for the team, whether in attack or defence.

Yet there are 10 more players who need to take a long hard look at themselves and question whether they are worthy of winning the league, the door has just been left wide open when it should have been slammed shut by January.

The between man city & chelsea was a big humiliation to chelsea, a big four team without a good second team goalstopper. It was a disgrace, better not played than to lose. Its a shame to my BigBOys!

The inconsistency this season is disappointing and of course yet another manager who can't hold a candle to TSO. I still cannot believe Jose was sacked. The best manager we ever had by a mile and what has happened since? The best part of $100m spent in compo to managers (inc. CA's which won't be cheap). That's something less than Given, Barry and Tevez who were all available and would have each solved problems (and yes I was saying this at the time). So what are we left with? Forget the PL we have by far the hardest fixtures and a poor g/k and a suspect dressing room thanks to Terry (who everyone says is so tough mentally but clearly has the MF of a jellyfish if anything other than a basic physical challenge is involved). CL? I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope there. Forget the FA Cup too no heart in the side. RA needs to find a proper manager (younger too) and commit to rebuilding or leave. The one great thing RA has done is raise the clubs profile but now I think he should sell and go

We should have won that game man, John Mikel and dat no good keeper are to blame, especially Mikel for those 1st 2 goals. Ballack was just indiscipline i couldve seen it in his face that he never wanted to play. Tevez, who is 1 of my favourite strikers shouldve been bought by us, now look what happens, he scores against us in the 2 fixtures, how could u not buy Tevez are u mad Carlo. Im beginning 2 question some of his tactics, i would never play Mikel and Ballack same time, these are 2 defensive players, we dont need that. He took off Joe Cole who was playing so good, this team is giving me a headache.

My boys are big and they would always be big but at times the big falls. Right now we shud start counting our loses at the same time counting our blessings. what are our loses-an ashley cole, a joe cole, a yuri, a john terry who is still having guilt all over him,a boswinga and the heart breaking of all a PETER CECH. I really which i could turn back the hands of time mostly to that unfurtunate incident of cech.
But the best are judged by their ability to pull through difficulties. Right now we are facing our most difficult times which actually makes me scared about the return leg with jose.
IT IS CHELSEA AND CHELSEA WILL IT BE FOREVER COS THE SKY WOULD ALWAYS BE BLUE.

Well i guess what we have to do now is to hope for better things to come and also we really need to pull ourselves together if we must win Jose in the Return Leg.. God help Chelsea

We should have won that game easily but it was all down to Hilario who failed to live up to his greater goalie Cech. At least we still have a 1 point lead in the table. GO CHELSEA!

well written article...

chelsea have been frustrating this year. they seem to be doing everything they can to send man u to yet another title win. with draws against simple teams and losses against the likes of everton and man city, weve seen our point lead dwindle to 1. our defense is concerning as is our 2nd string goalie. but what bothers me more is cech and his inability to play a season out. every year hes injured and this year is no different - only now we really need a solid keep. i love my blues but i just have this ominous feeling that things are slipping from our fingertips...AGAIN!

This game is not what the world wants to be seen, but his eyes were focused on the Captain Jhon Terry Vs Wayne Bridge.....scandal bro

I HOPE PETER CECH GET WELL SOON.. COME ON CHELSEA NEED TO BETTER IN DEFENCE.. ANCELOTTI NEED TO SOMETHING ABOUT THE GOAL KEEPER PROMBLEM.. I HOPE CHELSEA WILL BOUNCE BACK TO WINNING WAYS COME ON CHELSEA I BELIEVE THAT WE CAN DO IT...

What a game we played.. Hilario was a complete failure nd d tactise of 2 defensive players worriesome. with Ballack on a yellow, he should have been out cos he is too emotional wit lose. Lampard need to step up is game. Lets us pray nd wish Essien a quick recovery..

If Chelsea fails to win any silverware this season, i will blame it all on Ancelotti. He failed to overhaul the chelsea team. To me chelsea don't have a bench and I was expecting the new coach to make some changings. I was surprised chelsea made no (tactical)buy during the january transfer. It is because of this that the team is having problems replacing the injured players now. My fear is that chelsea may end up with nothing this season.

All the same I wish them best of luck.

I HOPE CHELSEA WILL WIN STOKE CITY I KNOW THAT CHELSEA CAN WIN...

d bluess has nothing to offer without drogba and cech. Also old age is affecting the team so much.

The defenders, strikers and mostly midfielders(so the whole team) need to up their game, justify their footballing ability. To see anelka slow halfhearted of recent, lampard wobbling his fat body and refusing to run down opponents and in defence ie corners the whole lot doesn't even bother to jump, run down challenges.

WITH hilario.....WE WILL WIN NOTHING!

I am feeling more and more that an Ã…tvidaberg moment is upon us. That dark night in 1972 when nobody tried and Hollins hit a post with a penalty and we were knocked out of the ECWC seemed to signal the start of a decline that ended up several years later with buckets being passed around during home games to raise money. I don't think Terry's form has "been quite good" or that "anyone could see my leadership qualities". He should just keep his mouth shut and earn his $12m pa. This season has got third in the league and nothing else written all over it. A major clearout is needed IMO. Ballack, Deco, Ricky, Hillaro and the other reserve gk who has made such little impact that I can't even recall his name (or be bothered to look it up) as an absolute minimum. Some "musts" are a decent reserve gk and a youngish PROVEN right-siden m/f and a similar signing up front.

Our strength used to be our defense but right now it has been our weakness. The only thing that kept us clean away from barca and still encouraging at home with them but right now that cannot happen. I can,t remember the last time we conceded 4goals home or away but what a rush. Should ancelotti have done the same thing capelo did to J.T? His he really our problem at the defense? can't we do without? May right now we need to make use of our best but our best is nothing without a sound mind.

hi ladies and gentlemens i will to say chealse is the best team and always the refrees always cheat them when they are about to reach finals..i will like to say, all fans should still support them they are still the best ,and i we always support them and wish them good luck . thank u

I think the problem is when carlo rolled in we were expecting some changes, but this year is shaping up to be the same as the last few (only we have arsenal breathing down our necks as well). i agree with some folks about the age, mainly as it pertains to ballack and deco...but we have a solid team otherwise and they are just not producing. weve played some brilliant matches (ask arsenal and man u) and some complete head scratchers (man city x2)...but what has concerned me this year is the draws against lower teams...how many points have we dropped due to late goals or some other shenanaginery?? we have a few matches left and we really need to tighten our defensive belt..i know with goal-lario in net that wont be easy.

i thank all chesae players for a good character shown on sunday against stoke city,Ancelloti keep up the good work.

being a new chelsea fan, i understand the strengths and weaknesses the blues face. i think without peter cech, the remainder of our season will be very difficult. our defending must become that much stronger to make up for the horrid goalkeeper. on the other end of the field, our forwards and strikers must step up there game to put more goals in the nets. we are still 100% in the title race, and janurary was just our peak. we need more toughness from everybody on the field. ancelloti knows his team, so he must know whats best. with man u coming up in our schedule, we have to maintain the best defense in the premier league, and step up everything else. john terry and ashley cole's otuside life business is affecting there football abilities, but once this passes i believe john and ashley will be ablet o play the best to there abilities and have no regreats whatsoever. the blues have hit a drought, and right now... we're ready for it to pour.

CHELSEA NEED TO MAINTANCE THEIR QUALITIES IN DEFENCE AND ATTACKING... DROGBA AND ANELKA MUST PLAY BETTER IF WE WANT TO WIN AGAINST INTER.. OK THEN I KNOW THAT WE CAN WIN WEST HAM.. LAMPARD WILL FIRE FOR US TO.. SO ALL THE BEST CHELSEA!!!
