Oh dear, oh dear.

What a disappointing week it has been for Chelsea and their faithful. First dumped out of the Champions' League by a far more organised and better (on the night) team, and then five days later throwing away two points after a seemingly comfortable first half against a less than average Premier League opponent.

2010 has been an ugly year for Chelsea, on and off the pitch, but the fact that a team who has lost six games is top of the table whilst one who has lost ten are still in with a Champions' League shout, shows that the 09/10 season has been ugly all round.

It is quite early to start asking questions for next season, but there are clearly a few things that need changing - and, for once, not the manager!

SECOND HALF BLUES ©EMPICS

We quite obviously lack invention. Jose Mourinho's masterclass last Tuesday showed that when approached with a team set out to irritate we run out of ideas.

Last year the buzz word of the Scolari era was "no plan B." but on Tuesday we seemed to have no plan at all. Cambiasso combined with Lucio and Walter Samuel left our players clueless for creativity. There were ways round it but we couldn't unlock it.

This is mainly down to the lack of creativity we have on the pitch. Wesley Sneijder was an example of exactly what we were missing - somebody who could create something from nothing. I may be as bold to suggest that we have severely missed this since selling Robben to Real Madrid - although Joe Cole is supposed to be that outlet, he just hasn't been sharp enough this season, and an injury he recovered from in October cannot be used as an excuse.

Mikel's role as defensive midfielder also needs to be assessed. He clearly cannot do the job that Essien and, before him, Makelele have both done so well for us in the past. He is too calm on the ball and is more of a danger to the team when it comes to clumsy challenges in the centre of the pitch. His poor defending against Craig Bellamy a couple of weeks ago re-affirmed for me that he is not cut out to play for Chelsea, he has a job to do but isn't up to the task.

Michael Ballack is another player coming under some close scrutiny from fans at the moment. I have always loved having Ballack in the team, I think he adds extra strength and security to the team, but the second half of this season he has been anonymous. I am often left wondering what exactly he has done for the team come the final whistle.

And finally to Kalou. In the same way that I have claimed Mikel isn't good enough for Chelsea, neither sadly is he. Although he was a cheap purchase at £3-odd-million-pounds, he has consistently been terrible on the ball and has inconsistently performed well in a game. Don't get me wrong, you may see him have a flash of brilliance every so often but not often enough. His talents seem to be running with the ball, his weaknesses in the striking of it - simply not good enough for somebody who was signed as a striker.

Of course there are plenty of positives in our team. Branislav Ivanovic and Florent Malouda have both turned into excellent acquisitions and this season have both cemented their places in the team. Ashley Cole was on tremendous form until his injury and Drogba has once again been impeccable in front of goal.

The problem is with the bit-part players, the ones who aren't necessarily renowned world over who need to play their parts. Ji Sung Park is a prime example of what we are lacking, a squad player who gets on with his game, when he is chosen performs exceptionally well and can turn up to a match and win it for you. Something players like Joe Cole and Kalou need to be doing, but sadly for us, aren't.

It gets increasingly frustrating to see the kind of results that Chelsea gets over and over again. We have a group of non-performers that CA has been banking on.It annoys me when I see players like Kalou and Joe Cole playing for Chelsea as they are our greatest non-performers.Mikel,off and on but I think the coach should have a good blend of the midfielders in every match.CA refused to sign any player in January claiming that we have enough plyers. Can he tell me where the players are?Our greatest young prospect,Kakuta has been left out of the first tam while the likes of Kalou,Ballack and Joe Cole gets playing time time every week.
CA needs to get the best out of his team just like how Hiddink did last season. We cannot be dropping points at this time against the likes of Blackburn when we are yet to play Man U,Liverpool and Spurs away.
I hope our title hope have not been blown apart.

I really don`t think we can continue with this anymore. We suffered a broken heart during the week thinking we will use the weekend much to heal the wounds of our heart not knowing the worse is yet to come. For now I don`t know what to think of my club anymore. I have become a laughing stock at my workplace. CA we are begging u offload the old papas and bring in new blood. Even though we have not given up on the title hope. Please guys I m a lady and I m dying for this club dont let me down. All the best in the rest of the matches.

I am surprised that Carlo with all his experience - two-time UEFA champion winner, and two-time winner as a coach - cannot read a game when the going gets tough. If truth be told, he is a bad reader of the game. As an example, he made AC Milan lose the UEFA finals against Liverpool by pulling out tormentor-in-chief Crespo. Similarly, he made Chelsea lose the match against against Man City by pulling Calvaho instead of ineffective Anelka. Again most of his changes are ineffective and sometimes knee-jerked change. He as no confidence in Kakuta, a boy full of promise so is Borini. He should not be sacked, but he should learn fast how to play the premier league. Lampard is over-used , he has burned out, so is Terry. The coach should not be afraid to bench them.

Posted by stefanoshamawi on 03/22/2010

CA has proven time and again that he may be a good tactician but a very porr motivator. ....
When the team comes back to the field after half time, the seem less motivated and less interested. It seems at times that Drogba is the coach and not him!!!

Posted by Alex on 03/22/2010

Chris I agree with you that Kalou isn't at the level of the other Chelsea players and same with Joe Cole, but they don't get much time on the field. Joe isn't as good as Florent Malouda or even Ballack so he isn't prepared for the high level of play the EPL brings. Mikel hasn't matured the right way to play for a high level and when all three of them aren't even starting in games against bolton or other poor (skill level) clubs then I think that that says something about how the manager feels even though I think you can't say "oh they're not Chelsea material" when they haven't even played pretty regularly. I mean JT is my idol and even if he went to a rival club I would still root for him as an individual but in the past few games hes made tremendous blunders to give up goals. Ever since the whole story about him and bridges ex came out hes played really flat so you can't say "oh hes not good enough to play for us" when a lot of world class players arent living up to their potential.

Posted by Alex on 03/22/2010

I mean look at Anelka after Drogba came back after the Africa Nation's Cup and most of the season Frank hasn't done much scoring. So just think about that.

Posted by jermaine on 03/22/2010

Finally someone decides to put some blame on Mikel, ive been posting this since he started playing. I dont know about Kalou, i think he looks good but needs more time, who i have a problem with is Anelka, Kalou plays way better than him. Apart from that setup for Drogba on Sunday, when was the last time have u seen him do anything, its time for him, Ballack and Mikel to go. Chris, i couldnt agree more over Kakuta, where is he? He looked brilliant and definitely needs more games. Does anyone have any views on Lampard, i sure do and they arent good

i use this opportunity to pls beg the so called CA marager of my great club chelsea,to pls off load all the old men in the team so they are killing the team for christ sake,i don know why player like deco, ballack, mikel, joe cole, kalou, they should pls live the club for us,paying those kind of playes is a wast of money.let bring in new blood and see what will happen, where is essien? mikel is just runing up and down doing nothing and ballack too,i really feel bad to see chelsea droping point at this time of game to club like black burn.any way hope is not loss yet but ca should do something now before he runs out of hand,up blue chelsea 4 life,

Injuries to an aging squad are destroying us. A Cole out is huge since he was in such good form. And remember Bosingwa... as good as Ivanovic has been (and he gets better every game, love the guy), going forward Bosingwa is much better. We dominated the early part of the season because our RB and LB were able to overrun with our mids. We tore people apart. Besides that, the real piece missing is Essien. He is the engine that drives the team... he is all over the pitch, shutting down opponent possession, tackling, just playing an overall all-out game for 90 minutes. Mikel doesn't cut it. Lamps has been a silent contributor but not like his usual self. Deco doesn't want to be at the Bridge. J Cole worries me as his talent is immense but it doesn't seem to be coming around. Right now the only guys I count on are Flo, Drogs, and Ivanovic. Everyone else just doesn't seem like they're playing the full 90 and it's showing. League may be out of reach. I'd put money on (gulp) arsenal...

Posted by Funmilayo Adekunle on 03/23/2010

at this point i really disagree with Mikel not playing well....Anelka has been playing badly since drogba returned from Nation cup..watch closely....i wonder becos his contract has not been sealed or not...Players need time to settle down...i hope we will not make the same mistake we made when we sold Robben out....Pls we need to change players like Anelka, joe cole, Cavalho,Deco,Ballack let us try and work on this young players for Christ sake...Its really frustrating......

Blackburn away in the CC with that stupid team selection seems to be where it all started to go pear-shaped. Before W18 D2 and L2 after 12/6/6. The biggest loss has been Essien. Gus was lucky he arrived just as Essien came back. It's not so much who should go as who should stay? I'm left with A.Cole, Ivan, Bos, Malouda (probably), Essien and Obi as a squad player plus the youngsters. After that they are either too old, not motivated enough or simply not good enough. Terry and Lampard I would sell ASAP whilst someone still thinks they are worth something ditto Drog but at least he is trying. Most of the rest are not worth talking about. I know Anelka has scored loads of goals but his whinging after his penalty in Moscow has always been shameful IMO. As for Terry the fact that he was thinking about going to City despite the Bridge issue (then unknown) shows his true character ($$$'s). Lets get a chairman who interested and a manager who is hungry for something other than fried food.

Obviously a very bad time to be out of form.

We need to restrategize and regroup, most definitely. Injecting some new/fresh legs from within(the reserves) or outside will go a long way.

Don`t quite agree Kalou and Mikel aren`t Chelsea stuff. We saw them play exceptionally well under Hiddink. I suggest Mikel be used more in an attacking role for a start. As rightly mentioned, our dwindling fortunes can be partly attributed to injury worries and all.... but again all the top teams have had their fair share of that, so, no stories. Instead, we need to to look at bolstering the team with quality.

C.A. did it at Milan and can do it with Chelsea. Kaka and Pato are testimonies. They became finished product under Carlo. Chelsea stand a better chance next season if they can finely blend the present crop with the young up coming one...Kakuta, Borini, Sturridge, Di Santo and the others...

It seems like every year we start the season on fire, but when it gets to the final push and we have a fine lead on the table, we collapse. The same chelsea story every year, this is the new coach, the new era, the best team in Europe... These words are always energizing to me but when march and april come my heart breaks at the losses and ties to teams in the bottom half of the standings. Where is the push for glory at the end of the season? the FA, carling and community shield mean nothing to me anymore... Yes we have a good team, but injuries will come during the year, get some quality depth on our bench. Sometimes i feel like I am watching EPL retro with our aged squad and lack of youth...Lets get back on top and show Fergie and Wegner that we mean business. Go Blues

Posted by Jerome on 03/24/2010

All this time and no one has talked about our keeper problems i mean wtf. Cech yea he is good but then what happens when we lose him to an injury we gotz Hilario?? and turnbull?? we need someone like Joe Hart as either 2nd choice or even first. Also i agree with most of you Mikel has got to go.. Give Anelka Time he will do well a the bridge and i don't know what John French is on but who the hell would want to sell Lampard or Terry both excellent player but they are left helpless by a lack of experience in the team. Lampard as got to work with Ballack who has underperformed since he came the the bridge and Mikel i mean you can't expect him to be scoring when he has to to Mikel's job and terry has to work with Carval who is a great player but sometimes caught out and Yuri Zhirkov who isn't even a defender... Injury has depleted the side and i don't know who CA didn't buy player when injury becomes such a problem in the 2nd half of the season. ESSIEN = GOD!! we are defs missing him.

Posted by Aaron Costello on 03/24/2010

Chelsea relies too much on our star players to do their jobs and do them well. Now with 3 of our beloved stars out (A. Cole, Essien, and Cech) we seem to play as if we're royaly screwed. I can only pray that the bossman or Abramovich will have some sort of intervention wit the team.
And mikel has been playin like rubbish, im not going to defend him on this one. yet, he is only 22 and has many a year in front of him to improve tremendiously.
When Kalou and Anelka arn't getting it done on the pitch, bring on that young gunner Sturridge. Danny's only 20. He's young, quick, fast, and clever on the ball. I believe he'll do wonders for the 1st squad in matches to come.
Joe Cole, once considered a prodigy of football. is riding the bench for the team he grew up to love. Everyone knows whaty he is capable of, so bring em back on, please mr. bossman?
In closing we need our starters back in fine form. and the pitch looks like rubbish. Make 'er look pretty in green again por favor.

I HOPE CHELSEA WILL START TO WIN AND PLEASE NO MORE LOSING... DONT LET MAN U BEING TOP OF THE TABLE. CHELSEA THIS IS IMPORTANT WE TO WIN EACH MATCH INCLUDING MAN U I HOPE WE CAN DO IT.. CHELSEA PLEASE START FOCUS TO WIN.. AND TO REACH THE TOP GEAR CHELSEA.. I HOPE THAT WILL FIGHT TO WIN AND BE THE VICTORIOUS AT THE END... WE JUST NEED TO KEEP MENTALY AND PHSYICALLY STRONG JUST BE CHELSEA AND COME BE STRONG.. EVERY PLAYER SHOULD BE IN TOP FORM NOW!!

I thanked CA for his good performance early of the season, but I dont know what is happening to him now. Like a manager having the problem of near success syndrome. I am suprised no one could make mention of Zhikov. I think He should be ofloaded alongside michael Ballack, Kalou, J cole Anelka and a host of other older players of our great club, and bring in new blooded players. I am having sleepless night for God sake.

in view of chelsea premier leag result against enter milan and blackban, mikel has little problem on produsing a magnificany attacking team work,he only knows holding and pass, but whow to establish a tactic attacking game is an issue for him.joe cole hasn't yet recoverd well to play for first eleven, ballack looks old right now,we miss A cole, bosingwa and ivanivic, but only what ican see on charlos ancelote is that, the man is lacking some tacknical skill against big matches and he lookes like tired before the end of the leag .Anceloti lookes like to do thing as what morinho .

Posted by jimmylegs on 03/24/2010

I am just tired of not being able to wear my chelsea kit as we lose or do something stupid and don't want to experience the abuse that comes with supporting a team everyone loves to bandwagon hate on.

Good result today, hope its not too little too late. WE win the league its a successful season.

Go blues.

Posted by any way,i will not mention my name,i am not happy on 03/25/2010

my Boss man anceloty,i am not sure that your use to read all those comment, why cat you try mikel front because what he always play in nigeria is 10,why cant you shift him front a little bit,to know whether you can get accurate result, stop using another mans formation, change your way football, just look at kakuta, let this boy prove what he have in his leg,I beg you with the name of God because i will kill my self if we lose this league because you started it with good result.and i want to tell you something now,do not play defensive ball agaist man U,i beg you because once you start playing defensive football agasit them, they will definitely take our position in the field,i am a footballer,i know much about this.i am not a mad man,pls take my advise, even if i am,a mad man,mad man doesn't say off point all the time,if he says ten,3 maybe correct, pls this is a good idea for you my boss Man

Posted by Shuaib on 03/25/2010

MIKEL, i think these comments are being to hard on mikel. The only reasons why chelse failed against inter LAMPARD, ANELKA and ANCELOTI...............
MUST THESE GYYZ play all games 90 mins

Posted by Temmy Otaniyi on 03/25/2010

I think the major problem with chelsea fc is a burnout thing, the main players get to play too many games and the fringe players hardly get any playing time at all, then when injury hits they can't deliver when they get called upon.

I think players like kakuta, kalou, borini, Hilario, sturridge, even thornbull should become regular fixtures for chelsea say in the early stages of the league cup and easy FA cup fixtures, that way the senior players get to rest and the young players get to up their game with all the match experience they will end up getting.

Take for example when hilario was called upon these last few weeks to stand in for injured cech, it was obvious that he was not on top of his game, likewise when thornbull had to fill in for hilario and cech when they were out, I still think a cech would have denied etoo on the night.

That said, I think chelsea need fresh pairs of legs as these are the same guys that have played all competitions for them over the years.

Posted by Shosay on 03/25/2010

CA needs to be brave & make some key decisions, first he needs to come to terms with the fact that Chelsea need to buy young new players and stop believing that we don't need new players. he needs to start resting palyers like frank lampard often...hes burning out & sometimes becomes a spectator on the pitch, joe cole needs to sign a new contract & start benching lamapard, joe is not performing coz hes not playing regulary we all know what a world class player he is...his head is not right, right now! Matic, Kakuta, Borini should be used from time to time, build up there confidence. Recall Manciene from Wolves for next season, cos he's also got incredible talent & would have gained a lot of expereince from his time with Wolves. We need to off load players & thank them for their services eg- hilario, belleti, ballack (am sorry i love this guy but its time to go!),deco & mayb paulo ferrier. We need to sign Aguero & maybe Pato, buy a left/right winger-ribery

Posted by junior on 03/25/2010

i think that the reserve keepers should get more playing time, because right now we need them and they don't look like keepers at chelsea's level or even like they have any confidence eg tevez goal was a stupid goal that beat hilario so was belamy's even mikel should have made the tackle

Posted by fan on 03/25/2010

Man Utd will be champions.. Chelsea suck my cock

Posted by Pinto on 03/26/2010

why r v not using Deco's game ...he is such a player
that he creates opportunitys quite good ....Plz Chelsea Manger Angelo Cellotti kindly take David Villa ,such a great player

Posted by CHERISH D TERRY 26 on 03/26/2010

Am a faithful blue...love all the blue boys,,,but so many of the World-Class players need to be rested...Even if they should play,,,not 90mins... Terry,,,Lampard,,,Drogba,,,Cech and some others should not be playing full games so that the young players can play and build on their confidence and experience...Mikel should be used as an Attacking Mid-Fielder better still a 10...Anelka is good but frustrates us most times...I still believe in my Blue Champions...

Posted by chima alaska on 03/26/2010

pls ca should sell d like of micheal ballack deco anelka belleti 4 chelsea sake amen.

Posted by mark on 03/26/2010

I agree with pstef good comments, Essien is the best of all at Chelsea, we dont have a player like Robben's class and creativity. Mourinho the best tactical manager who is capable of turning the match at Chelseas favour (when) introducing the quality subs. All the best for the rest of the season CA & Team.

Posted by Ojulari Abdulkabir Tola on 03/26/2010

The likes of Anelka, Deco, Ballack, belleti are the problem of Chelsea today. Mikel has been a vital player all the while. He has been saving Chelsea from a long time disgrace by sliding out several balls aimed at goal. Once the strikers beat Mikel, there is no "stopping the bee" it all against us. I will encourage CA to start with Kalou, Malouda, Drobga and he should forget using Anelka, at the back he should feature Alex, Terry, and the supporting defender. He will definitely have a better result

Posted by Aaron Costello on 03/26/2010

This my second comment on this subject...but i have to express another opinion. and its very short and simple:
when Chelsea plays rubbish teams like portsmouth, throw in Kakuta and some of the young guns. It's builds great experience for these players who will be the future of the club. Chelsea doesnt need to win 5-0 to a team who's facing relagation. A 3-1 or 2-nil would suffice. i guess if chelsea cant pull it out against a relagation team with their subs then the seasons screwed.
com on chelsea.

Posted by joejava11 on 03/27/2010

On the upside, they way Chelsea are dismantling Villa right now , and with Drogba not even on the pitch, should cheer everyone up.

Posted by Bert (Canada) on 03/28/2010

This is the Premier League. No team can be expected to win every game. If this were so then the very idea of a Premier League would be pointless.
I am a confirmed ManU fan and supporter, but have great respect for teams that perform well including those that that are not one of the top 4. It takes more than high priced players to win games, and even then, winning a soccer game is never a guarantee.
The race for the EPL title and fact that only one or two points separate the top 4 teams is indication enough that anything is possible come the next seven or so games. This is probably one of the reasons why many people consider the EPL the most exciting league in the world!

Posted by Ojulari Abdulkabir Tola on 03/28/2010

@ Aaron Costello, why are you not sincere with yourself? What would you have said if it was Arsenal or Man U. Man u beat Bolton as if it was Bolton game that would make them lift the cup. Chelsea is facing hard time, let the club be and take chances in any opportunity they have now. Thanks for your observation and comment, we want it the way.

Posted by nassor on 03/29/2010

we must sell ballack, baletti, deco, carvalho, fereirra, joe cole and takes them mencienne, and di santo from wolves and b/burn and also use all young players like kakuta, borini and also sign new players of world class like david villa, aguerro, ribbery and others left and right back defenders, i think it is good for chelsea and for ancelotti

Posted by ELFO on 03/29/2010

I THINK THAT CA NEED TO GIVE KAKUTA AND BORINI CHANCE TO PLAY LET THEM HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE.. I HOPE THAT ESSIEN COULD BE BACK SOON.. CHELSEA MUST KEEP THE TOP FORM GOING.. ANELKA IS NOT AT HIS BEST.. I HOPE THAT CHELSEA CAN WIN MAN U DONT THINK ABOUT THE AWAY GAME WE TO BE STRONG AND WIN COME ON CHELSEA SHOW MAN U THAT WE ARE THE BETTER TEAM...
