Chelsea

Unusually, Charles Dickens seems to sum up Chelsea pretty well at the moment - It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Whilst it might seem all doom and gloom in the immediate aftermath of the Wigan defeat, it's obviously as rosy as it has ever been post-Jose, and we have plenty of reasons to be cheerful. That's what my girlfriend told me on Saturday night in an attempt to drag me out of my usual Chelsea losing sulks, and I think, for once, she's right!

It isn't the end of the world to lose to a Wigan side that play good football, especially away from home. The ref didn't do us any favours (and neither did Rodallega, who reacted to what was the slightest of touches as if it had been a full bone-crunching tackle), but even when we were down to 10 men I thought we were unlucky not to equalise - we had a number of chances which, if they had fallen to the right man (Drogba normally!) would have been tucked away.

As it was we ran out of time, and our high-pressing line and three-man attack left spaces at the back for Wigan to make the most of. I have to say I was impressed at the way Ancelotti went about trying to secure at least a point from the game, with an all-out-attack philosophy that isn't particularly Italian. With those tactics, the fans are excited and on the edge of their seat, which makes up for some bad results on its own.

It's a shame that the third goal went in, costing us our spot at the top of the league on goal-difference - a spot we've held since the start of the season. In truth, we have to be jumping for joy that we're back at the top and competing again after last year's dismal effort at winning the Championship - Ancelotti has helped us off to one of our best ever starts in the league, and looks like he is the right man for the job.

The return of Joe Cole in last week's Carling Cup only aids our club, and should hopefully see Kalou drop out of the team (sorry Kalou fans). It is about time Joe had a bit of luck, and hopefully he'll power on from now until the end of the season and become the 'Golden Boy' of England's World Cup team that he was destined to become.

Last week's result was poor, but in reality we're not in hard times and can continue the season with great expectations.

chelsea is still the best no matter what wigan did to them. we will beat liverpool on sunday and we will win the league.

Honestly,as a Chelsea fan, I was not impressed with our performance against Wigan Atletic. Sincerely we did not play any game during the first half, in the second half our hope and performance was revived by Didia Drogba (double D). BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE REFEREE denied us the victory by giving Peter Cech red card. There is no cause for alarm, with our present manager and the current squad, we can climb on top of the table again. My advice on my team now is to endeavour to play well in their Champions leaque mach tomorrow against APOAL NICOSIA,in order to secure the maximum three points at the end of the day.

Posted by avantsweater on 09/29/2009

I don't know how you can say Rodallega went down exaggeratedly, he didn't, Cech is also a moron, he raised his leg to trip him. And then he did trip him.

It's funny, I think the ref was more than fair to Chelsea, considering they could have been down to 9 men a lot earlier had he sent off Malouda for his ACTUAL bone crunching challenge on Melchiot.

i wish all chelsea fans reason like you do, people have to understand the fact that in every quest difficulties is inevitble.

Posted by bj on 09/29/2009

yeah wat a nice situation for chelsea fans to comprehend...football is not mathematics,ok.you lose some you win some...shows you that as far as the league is concerned it's about MANUNITED

Posted by nosa osayuki on 09/29/2009

for me i believe chelsea will bounce back we should not rule salom kalou out for nw, we will surely need his service soon.He has not really had the chance to prove himself but watch out soon.

Posted by pascal on 09/30/2009

This is really sum up of the last game chelsea played with wigan.....obviously any big4whenever they win in a arow they always have pressure and sometimes it acts as demise...but chelsea are still on top of the table alongside man united on goal difference....so i dont see em allow any slip up and this acts as wake up call to them to reinforce and gel their squad..its nice they tested defeat so that they can not allow it happen next time...Go chlsea....blue is our color.

AMEN!
you know i was starting to think that carletto was the best man for the job and then this happened, but you are right, he plays attractive attacking football like guus and is tactically adept. We get joe cole back, and it's not like we lost to burnley or some other loser team, wigan although not exactly top-tier has been one of the surprise sides that has given the premier league it's high level of competitiveness. I still believe that chelsea will beat united for the title this year and that despite the situations it's still a two horse race between the blues and the reds despite city and the 2 losses of the gunners and the pool

as a good as well as a concerned fan of chelea, i think the coach should sort for more attacking line up after the like of drogba is injured or out for some reasons

Posted by puneet on 09/30/2009

well said, and what better tonic than to whip the liverpool overhyped woo-hoo boys when they come to stamford bridge on sunday. that would really be a statement of intent!!

I believe a defeat is a defeat, there is no team which will go unbeaten in the EPL.
For the Chelsea fans watch out liverpool are knocking your door; will you open?

Am a true blue in and out. I admire the way they played on saturday against wigan but i think they were not just lucky, (Cech send off, Cole's injury and that stupid misplaced player-KALOU.) It's time he's placed on transfer and out of Chelsea. I know they will redeem themselves tonight at the CL and once again start winning games. BLUES FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!

Andy, Thanks. I`ve been waiting for someone to concur with my take on the wigan match and I`m glad you did. It just wasn`t our day and I`m happy it came at a good time. At least, early enough for Ancellotti to learn from. Also, I`m glad the players all knew how they`ve under-performed in the encounter and all is ready to make amends. A good sign for us.

chelsea just had a bad game on saturday. it's just one of those days and i just can't feel too upset, but Peter Cech needs to stop giving away goal I am not impressed with his perfomance.

Posted by brad on 09/30/2009

Judging from that champs league performance we have a lot of worrying to do with this liverpool game, i have my reservations considering torres form. Once again i read about a dressing room war of words. I love chelsea but they really do need a strict school teacher to keep the brats in line sometimes. Ancelloti needs to crack the whip and take control of the dressing room. I am positive the reason we did so well with morinho is because players feared his wrath if they crossing him.......

Posted by Hassan on 09/30/2009

im true bluez fan truly i dont see any problems with the team dis is cmetitons u ve to lose lastlt we gnna win all .......... just wait................

Posted by Azrin on 09/30/2009

Wigan lost is a lost.we're not talking vdeo games here.its not like you can decide the players mood and abilities to perfect each match. i totally understood sometimes players do almost anything to win that 3 points, especially when to be in this league no1 spot is to win all matches, sometimes to score more. Chelsea needs to have more depths in their formations but with the names that we have on the bench its hard to see how the formation changes during a match can help us winning. Our defence is losing its touch, Steven Gerard once said our team is the hardest to penetrate, not anymore. Terry and Co have showed us in the previous 2 years that they can't handle set pieces and show weakness while clearing the ball. We are however superior in midfield thats no doubt but finishing wise both of our flanks does not seem to help much delivering extra threats into the penalty box. Anelka and Drogba still need to read each other games better. Lamps,Ballack,Essien need to connect upfront.

Posted by JONATHAN on 10/02/2009

WE SHOULD BE GRATEFUL THAT THE SEASON IS YOUNG. NO DOUBT, LIV WILL GIVE US A LOT OF PROBLEMS. BUT I ALSO KOW THAT WITH DETERMINATION WE GONNA WIN COME THIS WEEKEND.

Posted by Luke Chambery on 10/02/2009

I am a U.S. soldier in Iraq and I Have been watching the games here on T.v..I think that Chelsea played horrible against Wigan.I also think that they have gotten lucky that Anelka and Drogba have bailed them out a couple of times this season.Liverpool is struggling right now and Chelsea needs to step up and show the rest of the table they're for real.

Posted by wale amusan on 10/02/2009

i dont see anything wrong about the team, its just that they need to improve their game. it's good to make a mistake so that you will learn from the mistake you've made. they lost just only one game out of ten i think we should appreciate the fact that we're still best team in the world. let forget about the past, the most important things is to focus on the nest game agaist liverpool, i know our coach is a great man, he's been doing it and he's going to do it again. i know we're going to beat liverpool.UP BLUES!

Posted by rabi on 10/04/2009

how could we call the chelsea squad the best when it's full of players that are greedy and self caring only.they don't play for the team .they all need to change their alttitiud. specialy Anelka and Ballak they have to work hard and some of the players like bosingwa and obi mikel they really didn't descover their capability i expect them to go for ward penetrate so much.obi got the power and bossingwa got the speed .and if a little accuracy and speed in the passing there coud de some improvment in the squad but most of all
being a player for his shirt than for his wealth.you can have an example like manchester united star Ryan giggs he was there for his team from the begning and more than ten years in this fantasy he is the respected footballer by both the mun utd familly and the football familly. i am a chelsea fun there are some happy moments and bad moments.but i want this year to be my happy moment i would love to see the champions leuge trophy brought home.but the lost to wigan ?

From our first two games this season, i told anyone that cared to hear that this is a chelsea season. Is it the compact football being displayed or the evident hunger to excel or the team spirit being exhibited. Honestly, anybody that still thinks chelsea wont win the premiership this season must be blind. my boys are hungry and my coach also wants to prove a point. Blues to the core........

It was a wonderful victory over Liverpool on Sunday! I strongly believe that our Chelsea will win both Premiere League and CL this year.

Posted by Robby Shabwanga on 10/07/2009

Chelsea gave a fifith Birthday present with that Sunday resounding 2-0 victory over liverpool, as i true blue fan and real blue and my entire family celebrated my day with this nice present. My special accolades to the coach and the team in particular skipper JT,Drogba, Anelka, Essien and Malounda now you have your feet.We should aim to score more goals two was enough and a clear whip for benitez and his disrespect for chelsea that has been around since the days of Jose Mourinho. The defeat by wigan was a wake up call for chelsea to defeat all teams regardless of status big or small team.
Please join me in celebratig my fifty years of being alive and devoted to Chelsea, forever blue till death.

Now that we are back on top. We need to remain there by beating teams that comes across us. We need to be disciplined in the defence and take our scoring chances upfront when they come.

Posted by Chima Nwosu on 10/14/2009

Nothing gives me joy than the general knowledge that you can not score a Chelsea side and remain the same without been bruised. This tells the strength and rugged spirit pervading the club. They just need to take that general perception to their advantage.
