It might well be a sheer piece of fluke that Carlo's tried-and-tested diamond midfield works for us, and he might be lucky with his squad selection, but you can't deny how effective it has been so far. I can honestly say we don't look like getting beaten any time soon - Ancelotti has found Chelsea out!
After last night's results, Chelsea sit at the very top of the table, with 6 points from two games, whilst their nearest rivals have slipped up - Liverpool and Manchester United both having lost a match before the first four days have even been seen out! Obviously dropping points now is something they can get away with, rather than at the other end of the season when it can be crucial, but it stands us in good stead.
The diamond in midfield, with Deco feeding brilliant little through-balls to Drogba and Anelka, and with wingers charging up the flanks to get involved, allows us a certain creative and attacking verve that we didn't have last season. Meanwhile, having Essien back, and patrolling the back-line alongside Lampard and Mikel gives us the defensive support to ensure that we rarely get caught out.
With Nikola Matic joining us as another hard-working and talented central midfielder, it's all looking very promising for the rest of the season!

The Diamond formation is actually blending up the team.I would want the Manager(Anceloti) to talk to team on the manner they concede goals first. We got away with it twice, it should not occur again.
Aside that great football, great team and looking forward to a brilliant season.

Couldn't ask for a better start to the season (except of course trailing in both matches). I really like the way Ancelotti is using the depth of the squad to keep fresh legs in the game. Although some sides may have younger, quicker players, none can match the depth and experience of Chelsea.

Apparently, its convincing that the diamond formation is working fine but, i commend the effort with which Carlo is rotating the team thus giving room for all the players to have a fair share of playing time. its improper to call on a player who has been on the bench for over weeks in a demanding situation whereby there is an injury to a regular player, you simply can't expect the best out of him simply becos the morale will be very low and will definitely find it difficult to settle down within the team. Besides, we simply can't be coming back from goal down with the fact that it might be difficult to have such instances all the time. Blues for life!

I feel it's not a good thing to come from the back. With tougher sides to meet later in this and other competitions, Chelsea needs to focus a little more on her defense to avoid being scored on before fighting back to win....

Our diamond formation is solid and would be very useful especially in europe. My prayers is that our physically strong midfielders like Mikel & Essien will be injury free; specifically Essien.Because they will help us cover ground against quality team that have speedy wingers and play the traditional english pacy game like spurs,man utd,villa & co.In all, the future looks bright and with joe cole coming back; we can only get better.

...he didnt use a diamond against sunderland. ballack and essien shielded the back four, while kalou, deco, and lampard were given free roles behind drogba. lampard, ballack, essien, and to a lesser extent deco also rotated in a manner that made them tough to track. the four of them are different enough that I think the combination of them can crack any defense. I also think kalou should remain in the team, as he adds the energy that anelka is missing. mikel should sit until he learns a better attacking game, as he does not fit in as seamlessly as ballack or essien. and i would still like to see us sign a forward that is a better pure finisher. yes, didier is a natural disaster for opposing backs, and often scores from nothing, but we need a pinpoint finisher to pot all the chances we create and then miss.

Chelsea look great for champions this season. I would love to see more Drogba free-kicks, I saw him score one for Ivory Coast, absolute gem, just like the one on saturday. Great defence, I like the intel of Carvalyo, reliable Terry, Bosingwa, oh he's been faithful for me, a little worried about Ash Cole. Pat Essien's back for me. Anelka for golden boot this season? Lamps, great leader too. I like Kalou too. Obi,na him good playeroh. Can we bring in Messi for the future? Eto would have been nice for back-up and competition too. Predicting an unbeaten run to January. scalps will include Man U and Arsenal. I am still bitter at the 3 nil drubbing they handed us last season. Liverpool worry me the most, although luckily they are their own worst enemies with leadership woes betwist the owners. Ancheloti wil need to also look into our future team, most of our top honks are tending 30yrs, perhaps the '10 world cup will help scout for possiblities, lets not go Wenger's way, rebuilding for +5yrs

With the return of Joe Cole and Zurkhov, as wing players, our attack will be that much better. And also with Alex's emminent return, that will bolster our defences. It also helps that Drogba has been spot on, although Nicolas Anelka needs to get it going...

I think the squad that played against Sunderland should be maintained. I like that formation Deco and Kalou playing behind Drogba and Lapard, Essien and Balack playing in front of the back four is very good. Is like a 4 5 1 formation but with two attacking midfielders and one central player and two defensive players seems very good. That makes them get the balls at all corners and putting them in good positions. I think this yr is our year.

Well done Mr. Ancelotti. The diamond is a perfect continution of the work that Hiddink did with the depth of the team. The rotation has always been lacking since the Mourinho days. Only hope is that the diamond leaves out some wing play...Would like to see Malouda, Kalou, Scheva, and JOEY COLE (after it now son)... feature more...If we are sound health this will make for a great ride. 09-GO ON YOU BLUES!!!!!

As Milan supporter, I can say Ancelotti is tactical genius. He exploits matchups with the personnel he selects for what he believes is a chess match between tacticions. Chelsea and its supporters will see this if they have not already. The backline will get more formidable as season progresses. His tactical astuteness and first selection will make Chelsea and its supporters feel that they can play anywhere in Europe, let alone England, and collect a positive result. No question.

Chelsea is the team to go home with a treble this season,am not scared of any team in the premiership, Drogba is always there to do the magic for us, Mikel should learn to be more confident and stop wasting balls, Lampard is good and strong for any midfielder to checkmate, Diamond or no diamond, chelsea remains a very strong side mentally and physically,Carletto, should keep Malouda out of that team and pray for Joe Cole and Zhirkov to return to fitness, Malouda is not as the same as when he was in Lyon, maybe he should be sold to Newcastle,, Carvalho and JT, remains the best pair in out back line,A. Great preseason and a great start to the Premeire League. Looking at Chelsea's schedule though, I expected all of these to be easy wins (maybe not Fulham as much), and that is what we got. Let's wait a little though before getting too excited. The same thing happened last season, and you know where that got us. Blue is the color!!!!!!

3-0 start is nice, but today was first game they outplayed opponent entire game. Schedule gets tougher so I hope my boys step it up. As for the diamond, it might clog the middle too much and weaken them for wing counter attacks or against another team that clogs the middle. Would like to see Essien, Deco and Malouda initiate more wing attack with their speed and let Anelka and Drogba own the middle. Today's game had Boswinga and Cole pushing up a lot on the wings which could hurt on counters. Off to a great start!

it is a pleasurable thing to be a true CHELSEA fan since 1999. i want talk about the team start of the season. i think the team have done marveleously well by winning all their matches except the draw from Reading FC this season. i also thaught that Carlos Ancelloti should wash and able to map out some lapses in the attack and defender. The diamond formation does seem to be clicking with them. Each player has such a different playing style that it's really, really hard for any defense to come up with one strategy to take them down. Lamps still looks a little confused occassionally, but he's such an intelligent player that it won't be like that for too much longer. I really like the Ballack - Mikel Obi combination in the center of the diamond.
I do completely agree with rotating. Not only does it allow fair playing time, it also completely changes up Chelsea's style for each match, making it really hard to study them and create a defensive strategy. I think that's why we've been so successful thus far - no defense can create a formula to crack our midfield, because you never know what style you'll get from them.
I think I'm starting to repeat myself, so I'll end my comment at that. Come on, you Blues!

I feel Chelsea's Diamond formation is the best option for now and a "MIKEL" must play all games if fit. Essien and Ballack should subtitute themselve because the height of Mikel is very much needed to take off all overhead ball. Essien's height will always cause the defensive problem that may led to goal. The coach of course should review the past matches to understand that for Chelsea to come out top this season a Mikel and other player would do the magic for them. Remember what Scotland coach said last season the Mikel is life wire of Chelsea. He is the best holder and passer of the ball in the world. He is still holding back lots of skills. Well done Drogba and Terry.

Come on. Chelsea is by no means ancient. The squad is in their late 20's on average but Ballack is the oldest at 32. Chelsea is going to have an incredible year. Get used to it dude.

Look at the way the Blues are passing the ball! More importantly Drogba and Anelka. They are working together magically. They look to good to be true. Deco is playing a little more defensive today against Burnley. I would like to see him come up through the middle a bit more. This is our season Chelsea fans! Keep up the support and we will get the EPL title and the Champions League! It's all ours. LETS GO BLUES

Like i said earlier last week, Chelsea is the unbeatable team of this season, we made it great by trashing Burnley 3 Goals on a high tempo match. Nobody can break our record with the formation of Dimaond initiated by the Great Italian football Legend and tactician "Carlo Ancelotti".
Diamond is a hard object to break, Blue Diamonds are the best and the most expensive quality, and Diamonds are forever, but Chelsea is 4live

Despite all the positives, one thing, as a Chelsea fan, that really worries me is the age of our key players. With their exp. that comes with age, I don't think they'll hv trouble at the beginning of matching season. But as cups and Europe matches pile up, their mileage would cause some troubles, namely, injuries. And at their age it's harder for them to get back to fitness after injuries, too.
Chelsea reigns!

I have always believed in my Chelsea, even during the dark Scolari days. I know the men are strong and determined and I most especially love the never-say-die spirit in the Club. This is what I always boast of as "The Chelsea Spirit".
We, however, need to know that we will never cease to up our game as we progress as the laurels are still a long way off. But I do believe in my men and the coach and, of course, God Almighty. So I know we will conquer the world this season.

lets not get carried away with the diamond formation, for me, i cant really say the formation is begining to yield good result, the reason for me saying this cause the season as just started and we havent played any tough contenders,the season will begin when we play porto and tottenham,aston villa and others.well let hope we keep getting lucky with the way we are playing now and wait to see what the season has in stock for us............thankz

Its amazing for Carlo to blend quickly with the primiership but let us be careful 'cause last year we started well but until at he end of the season we lost five games imagine!Carlo keep it up but sometimes let Essien to play as an attacking midfilder as he did at Lyon let DIAMOND LIVE FOREVER!

Well as for me, the diamond formation has come to stay. If the manager (ANCELLOTI) used it with d calibre of players he has to win both d CHAMPIONS LEAGUE & LEAGUE,then i think the same should work with us. The formation also enables us to be in control of d ball all round the clock. Also we should concentrate more on the smaller teams and gather as many points as possible, cuz i have seen over d years that Manchester United uses this logic to win the the league even without crushing the "Big Four"

Its great to have an experience and high profile coach like Lotti,with his diamond formation Chelsea will definatly do better than last year before the arrival of hindick.Diamond is not a new playing parttarn for the boys i think, cos it as always been one of the special one verious formation he used during his reign.And for the boys coming from behinde,i think it has been a key factor for the boys in dismantling the opponent.And for the rotation of the players in every match played, that is a very good idea in keeping all the players match fit in case their are some injuries through the season,cos there will be so many trophy to fight for this season.And that as well will allow compition amongst the boys.WHO ARE YA man u & co come on BLUES!!!

it is good that we are getting used to the diamond midfield formation. i see chelsea achieving the ultimate this season with good selfless combination of DROGBA and ANELKA. I want to say here that DROGBA fights like LION when we need to stay ahead but once we are a goal up,he tends to reduce the vigour with which he fights. that puts us at risk especially when our opponent scores late goal. i love and appreciate him and the whole team. we should be creating as many chances as possible in a match and fight to utilize all. other clubs of the big four will kill an opponent with goals if they can but we seem to be the only merciful among them.more goals is an advantage

Chelsea all the time I always belive and have trust in d team but this set of Carlo Chelsea are ready to go anytime anyday but they should stop the idea of coming from behind to win a match cos some team are sturborn that they can hold on to a goal. Carlo ancelloti Diamond frmtion is quite working well but there is need for improvement on the side of Lampard, Deco is doing a great job at the moment, also Anelka should improve on his stylish style of play he should look set and be scoring like the King Drogba. chelsea will be the team to beat this year if the diamnnd formation is maintained and continues to work for us. we have a great team and we do not need to bring in new players in the team .The system of rotating the players is building the team spirit.
Let us start scoring more than three goals at the most in any given football match.the coach is another angel who will bring us our most sought trophy -champions league UEFA.
We the league title that has eluded us in the past three years. Kalou shoul not be traded for any reasons including Deco,carvahlo they bring talent to our team.

We have a great start to the season this year and its really great after a tough season last year. We should not be carried away by the early success instead should keep on doing the hard. Its high time that we start winning trophies again - especially Champions League is a must this season and the League title to go with it.

I love chelsea so much. I apeal chelsea should aviod conceding first before fighting back, it's very risky. And also avoid last minute error, remember what it cost us with barcelona(chap.leauge semi fimal) and with Man U(community sheild). The Diamond formation solid. Chesea for titles.

Good Things attract all, but not all get good things. Chelsea sitting at the top of the table is not definitely by accident, we played for it and deserved it. Thanks to the Sparkling Diamond Formation, and thumbs up for Carlo. Its too early to write any team off, but honestly, we stand a very big chance in winning the league this season. Ban or No Ban, Appeal or No Appeal, we shall stand and survive. We did not lost any of our key players during the break which was like other top 4s of the league, thats exactly our strength and secret of Success so far. Chelsea has done well so far.The diamond formation seems to be fantastic but there is a problem i would want boss ancelotti to correct that is the problem of conceding goal first which has become very usuall to the team. the should always learn to hold on to the ball insted of making some silly mistakes that may cause them dearly if care is not taken.

Wigan 3-Chelsea 1...Lampard is not scoring..Anelka+Drogba=8 goals..i am not saying we're not in the competition but eversince the diamond position,our fire power decreased.We are using diamond formation but still we see our RB and LB running up and down the flanks which leaves or midfields congested and our defence open. Vulnerable to speed and fast break, weak centre defending from midfield, losing to set pieces,our subs does not show any depths. Why Jose's team back then was really good because he knows where to put the right person at the right place, the subs is not only for tired legs or injuries but formation changes,not to mention the short passes from the middle to the penalty box from the 3-3-4 formation really gives an impression (you can see that in Barca now)that you can shoot and score definitely.if that does not work our flanks is good enough to create chances functioning like a 2-4-4 postioning.Straight forward but it gives you results.

The Diamond formstion is indeed seeming like a fool proof mechanism- A RESULT ORIENTED style of football that gives silverware but does not win hearts. It is simply a matter of time when people realize that not so far away in Spain, a team named F.C Barcelona can rip them apart any day and make their diamond go haywire. Chelsea is lucky because the only team closest to Barca's style of in the EPL is Arsenal and they are'nt consistent enough to gather pace. So chelsea better get some flair into their game before the old trick fades away.
PS: Im not a gunners fan, Hail LIVERPOOL!!!
