Chelsea

John Terry has finally decided to stay - thank goodness! It may have taken him a while to reach the decision (and lets face it, who wouldn't be interested in getting their wages tripled?) but he's made the right decision in the end.

JT has always been Mr Chelsea to me - having grown up with the club, and been a key component of the team for so many years. As our captain, we look to him to inspire the troops, get the cruching tackles in, and maybe even use his influence over the referees! All of which he has done fantastically well so far!

When he was partnered with Carvalho for a full season, Chelsea had the best defence in the league, and its time that Terry was given someone in the centre of defence who could actually help out with the defending rather than being a burden on his shoulders.

In todays day and age (in football at least) it seems stupid to talk about loyalty - the only ones who have it are the fans. The players, managers and even backroom staff can all be bought - the only problem with this is that its the hard-working fans who end up stumping up the cash to pay for it!

That said, of all the players in the Prem, I think JT is one of the most loyal servants. Of course his head is going to be turned, but deep down he knew it was too much of a wrench to leave his beloved Stamford Bridge.

With Terry staying, Alex looking more sure-footed, and Zhirkov and Cole playing on the flanks we have a superb defence, its only our attack I'm worried about now.

Earlier in the close-season there was talk of a 'Marquee Player' coming - ie a massive name in world football. With all the moves that have one on - and some top-class names such as Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema, Ibrahimovic and Eto'o all moving clubs, I don't quite see who this big name signing is going to be - do you lot have any thoughts?

UP Blues, Blues for live, i think we are having a good team for now but if one like pato, pirlo and ribery could come in all is going to be well.

Posted by Erik Coulbourne on 07/29/2009

Our squad is deep enough and full of talent that we do not need to spend money just for the sake of it. I only see spending on someone like Pato since he is skillful and youthful. We do not need Pirlo, too many Midfielders already. Do not need to buy, just need one full season with a good coach and hopefully few injuries.

chelsea for sure have a good team presently, only that we need to get a very good, average aged but experienced and talented striker to assist drogba, and maybe an average aged midfilder too, chelsea for life.

up blues, Chelsea is good enough to lift the Champions leg trophy with this talented set of player but we need a player like pato & ribery to make the best of all. i will follow Chelsea till i die

UP Blues. Chelsea have everything they need to win the Prem League and the Champions League this season. We dont need more midfielders, its too crowded already if you ask me, especially if Joe Cole can come back strong. Striking core is solid. When Drogba and Anelka play together they are near unstoppable. Kalou is very good, young striker and will be great in just a couple years. It would be silly to spend money on another striker when we still have Sheva on the bench. He looks quicker, sharper, and more determined this pre-season. I think he has one more great campaign left in him. Im calling it now, the Ukrainian wonder makes his return to glory this year.

P.S. All 3 new kits are amazing. We will be the best looking team in the world.

Hey! took you long enough to write sth!! I was waiting forever.

i don't see how buying another 30 year old to ever increase our number of players who are close to 30 or have passed it! i think pirlo would be a bad buy. we should buy someone more youthful! and build the squad for the future! i don't think the current squad will last very long and with city having all those good players, when they actually do gel, it'll be the end of Chelsea! and manutd's youths are maturing nicely, there will be no way an aging Chelsea group could beat them in the future.

This season is going to be interesting. Everyone is penciling us in to take the EPL, but I dont know. WE need some youth at almost every position, especially up front....It pained my eyes to see anelka and drogba miss golden chances against barca in the champions league to move on to the finals. ...Especially drogba....Our strikers are not surgical enough when it comes to getting goals...We need some clinical strikers ..

Maybe Shevchenko will make more of an impact this season, he had some amazing runs and pretty damn decent play in the pre-season. I've always adored Sheva, and I think that he can definitely contribute to the team this year.

The Blues for life,up blues i really thank God that chelsea now have a manger like Ancelotti who knows what it takes to manger a team like chelsea.Again chelsea's skipper john terry's latest decision to stay back not withstanding the flamboyant offer from man city and i know with that we have a good sqaud and we win trophies this season .From chima (Nigeria)

i think chelsea have enough to give man utd a run 4 thier money.talking about buying,i really think dat the team is balanced enough.the understanding that exist in the team could be altered if there is another inclusion to the team

Posted by yogee on 08/06/2009

by far the most valuable player chelsea possesses is essien...n lampard..we cant even think of selling them........its a good squad...this year all is going to be well.....

Posted by Mudenda kaingu on 08/06/2009

Chelsea is a fine squad as of now. The only thing that is left which the coaching staff shud work on is the striking force. Effectiveness in soccer is to convert the chances that are available to goes. The striking force has to be shapened. We do not need to play according names but scoring. Luk at REAL MADRID, they have the cream they need but can't perform due to name tags which they think kud play. Chelsea is for LIFE.

Posted by LENNIE NAIDOO on 08/06/2009

AS A SPURS FAN I THINK THAT CHELSEA SHOULD SELL JOE COLE TO SPURS BECAUSE CHELSEA HAVE A LOT OFF PLAYERS VYING FOR THE SAME POSITION AND JOE COLE IS WAY DOWN THE ORDER ALSO CHELSEA DOES WANT TO BE LINKED WITH MANU FOR HOARDING PLAYERS BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE MONEY THAT IS SHOWING ARROGANCE

Thanks for all your support, from all over the world. Leaving Chelsea was never really an option for me. We are hungry for more silverware this season; our squad is stronger than ever and our manager is a true professional with a a proven record of winning. Go the Blues.

the truth still remains that , chelsea as a club is as good as the most perfect club now in the universe.they have complete team ,i.e i mean a good coach and good players.my only worries now is injury. The Lord the giver of trophies will certainly deliver us from them all.

terry hoyee
a wonderful decision.

JT is the most loyal player even after his wages were tripled by the Man City club. I disagree that Chelsea attack is a problem. With likes of Essien and Mikel in the defensive zone and Lampard, Ballack and Deco in the attacking zone with J.Cole and Malouda on the flanks giving Chelsea tha extra width Chelsea couldnt get any stronger and with the strikes of Drogba and Anelka upfront, Chelsea has a good attacking force. And the important thing is that this team has been playing together for a season which gives them a better coordination among themselves. I think Chelsea really dont need a big signing this season until unless there is an injury crisis but even think I think Chelsea's squad has enough depth to cope with injury (except three seasons back, defensive injury cost Chelsea the championship but now they Alex who can cover JT or Carvalho). BLUES FOREVER!!!
