Chelsea

Yes, I know I really shouldn't be celebrating this just yet, but with Manchester United crashing out of the FA Cup to Everton, the trophy is practically in our hands - and deservedly so!

Our squad looks in good form, especially after punishing Arsenal in the dying minutes of our own semi final, with Dider Drogba sticking the knife in once more, it seems that our name is on the trophy.

Admittedly there may be some complications caused by the small matter of the Champions League Final on the Wednesday night before the FA Cup Final on Saturday, but we should still have more than enough (both in the squad and the proverbial tank) to take on a toothless Everton team that didn't manage to score against Man United's babies.

By contrast we were looking sharp and at our powerful best as we smashed Arsenal 2-1. It wasn't the greatest game of football, but no-one could question our desire, heart or effort - which is all the more impressive when you consider we played a MASSIVE game against Liverpool just a few days earlier.

I can't wait to start the celebrating on May 30th, and look forward to another trip to Wembley!

Easy there mate.

Do remember that this IS the Everton side that we too failed to score against not too long ago, do not underestimate them.
(Yes I know JT should never have been sent off and Scolari was manager but you know that kind of ruins my arguement)

Cahill and Felliani both had shocking games for Everton today and Saha was still obviously feeling the effects from his earlier sickness this week. When those three, especially Cahill, are on form they are a very dangerous side. They aren't 6th in the EPL for nothing.

That said if Drogba continues his impressive form we should be alright.

What we need to worry about now is a Left-Back for the Barca game (hint, hint for an article :P )

Congrats on being the clubs new correspondent by the way.

Posted by Zakhov on 04/19/2009

Wouldn't celebrate it just yet. Everton will be a tough tough game for us. They've improved a lot since facing us last time around(and even then they give us plenty of trouble).
But if we can continue this form up til the final(with the Barca games in that stretch), I'm sure we're able to beat anyone. Its been a joy to watch the team spirit and our mix style of play(Arsenal couldn't mix it up on the poor Wembley pitch, that was their downfall), and its great that we're able to beat Liverpool and Arsenal in the space of 3 weeks especially after having struggled against the top four under Scolari.
Hopefully we can continue our pursuit in the title race as well. Utd look to have lost form recently, and you never know with Liverpool. All in all, after all the troubles and demise of our proud home record this season, we're in for a real treat at the tail end of this season. Lets just the enjoy the ride. :)

Mate, I am also a Chelsea fan, but i certainly don't underestimate what a pumped up Everton side can accomplish, as much as you apparently do. Never count your chickens before they hatch! Don't get me wrong, i'd rather we face Everton than Man Utd, but they do have an excellent fighting spirit, not to mention the fact that they haven't won a trophy in years and will definitely be up for it.

Posted by Omar on 04/20/2009

I couldnt agree with your more, this peice of silverware belongs to Chelsea. Hopefuly on the 30th May we'll be celebrating our second trophy of the season. GO CHELSEA !!!

Posted by James Hartley on 04/20/2009

Firstly, it's "Silverware".

Second, although I think it's been 20 games since Everton have beaten us, it's probably been a similar number since the last time Everton beat Man United, so I think its a bit hasty to be counting on a victory so soon.

Having said that, go the Blues!

Posted by chelseafc on 04/20/2009

why are you celebrating as if we won? at least let them play the game first... classless

Posted by joy on 04/20/2009

believe it or not chelsea is abig team and just wait to see more in the following matches.

Posted by Sunday Bala Gyet on 04/20/2009

I agree with you! DA BLUES WILL CRUSH EVERY OPPOSITION!

Posted by Martin on 04/20/2009

I love your arrogance, so you have won the trophy already, right? Like you did against Tottenham in the CC. Would love it if the Merseysiders pip the Renties.
And nah, complications won't arise, Chelsea won't get past Barsa.

Posted by kolawole adefila on 04/20/2009

i will be a seconder in that celebration as soon as chelsea lifts the FA CUP

Posted by Idowu Benjamin on 04/20/2009

I agree totally with you as a chelsea fan. Our biggest prospect for a silverwear this season is now in the FA Cup and we should be able to turn Everton back empty handed on May 30. Kudos to Guus Hinddik for the amazing transformation which has brought hope to most Chelsea faithfuls. And for Barca, I am confident that they will surely under estimate the resilience and spirit with which our boys will play them. I hope to share the joy of a positive result with you comes next week.

Twas really beautiful seeing my darling CHELSEA FC getting back to winning ways, this is a team that for three consecutive seasons have reached the FA finls, for the past six seasons have reached the last four in the UEFA Champions LeaguE FIVE TIMES.If the Cup was to be awarded on persistance, hardwork and zeal,no one deserves it much better than CHELSEA FC.THIS IS CHELSEA'S YEAR.

Posted by yohan on 04/20/2009

i bet we can to the treble this season! now all we need is some slips from man in the league, beat barca and anyone in the finals......yup...i see 09 is the year...although I our home record this year is among the worst in recent years....

Posted by Conner on 04/20/2009

Before we start celebrating I am really looking forward to what Chelsea does against Everton Wednesday. Can't believe you didnt mention that mate. Once may 30th rolls around and for atleast a week before that you'll hear so much comparisons to what happens Wednesday.

Posted by Nathan on 04/20/2009

Woah Boy... Lets not count the silverware before we have it in hand. I think we have a good chance of silverware as well, if not a double or even a treble! Keep the blue flag flying!

Posted by conner on 04/21/2009

by the way... wouldn't it be 'Silverware'

Posted by Cruise on 04/21/2009

This is wishful thinking on your part to suggest that Everton would not pose a serious threat to Chelsea in the FA cup final. Please see the opponents Everton eliminated via the Finals... That should be very informative and maybe.. your wishful thinking about Chelsea having a the trophy without kicking the ball might turnout to be another disappointment....

Posted by habay on 04/21/2009

i can't also wait for the day to come!

Posted by Max on 04/21/2009

Yeah Everton beat Liverpool and United, they only have to beat us and they have beaten the top three English teams on their way. Don't count them out, but regardless GO THE BLUES

Posted by disgruntled on 04/21/2009

This is absolutely ludicrous. I applied for this position as Chelsea correspondent, and instead of choosing someone actually educated they have bestowed its prestige upon some dolt who cannot even spell correctly, and who, rather than providing any sort of analysis whatsoever, simply revels in self-congratulation typical of a dilettante fan...would be a real person and post my name on this, but I keep hope to get the job the next time once this one eventually loses interest

Posted by jimmy on 04/21/2009

As a Chelsea fan im excited at the prospect of facing the Toffeemen in the final rather than Manutd. But I wouldn't count them completely out of it. If Everton turn up on the day they can be a very dangerous side to play against as they have a swift counter attacking play and fairly solid defence to boot, yet saying this, if we turn up on the day, we are one of the hardest teams in the world to match up on and can cause anyone havoc from so many outlets and i think if we do this Everton wont have a chance to keep up. So lets hope that Guus gets us up and raring to go for it, which im sure he will. GO BLUES!!

Posted by ultravires on 04/21/2009

COYB! We will take all the arrogance to the chin and emerge the true royal blue of the premier league. The spirit and conviction of everton will crush the thin loyalty of the chelsea team. It well billions of star players Vs 15million Fellani. Fellani's hair will win the day!

Posted by kartik on 04/21/2009

you are absolutely write, mate! Chelsea is obviously the favorite for the title, but ...let's keep our fingers crossed, and expect to see a very exciting game!

Posted by Faisal on 04/21/2009

Mate despite Chelsea are a much better team . We still should not under estimate what Everton can do. I remeber couple of years ago when West Ham played Liverpool, where Liverpool won by penalities. Steven G Scored a last minute equaliser that game West Ham deserve so we have to play at a high quality like we played Aresnal.

Posted by George on 04/21/2009

Here's to hoping the more noble side of Everton trip your boys up. Chelsea features a strong side, but it's still all due to dirty Russian money.

I expect Everton to triumph. 2-1 or win via penalty.

I think I will echo a fellow chelsea fan's commment that your article is really classless mate.
Its views like your's mate that give our fans a bad name

Posted by Matt on 04/21/2009

Mate, I am a HUGE Chelsea fan, but you can NEVER assume you have won a cup final of any sort until the final whistle, no matter who the opposition is. If a team is good enough to get to the final, they're good enough to win it. On top of that, Everton have been in excellent form this year, so don't expect it to be so easy.

Also, don't get too far ahead of yourself in the Champion's League, either. Barcelona are probably the best side in the world at the moment, and it's certainly going to be one of the toughest games we've played for a long time.

Having said that, I have faith in our boys, and we are certainly getting back to the form which made us such a formidable force!

Posted by cerveza on 04/21/2009

I expect a double (FA cup & Champ League) under Master Hiddink.

Fight for it the Blues

Posted by Obefiend on 04/21/2009

seriously mate.... wait till we win it before celebrating...

Posted by hasan on 04/21/2009

Sorry to burst your bubble but Drogba's goal was a gift from the Arsenal Keeper, and Arsenal played something that can't be football considering their perfomances in the EPL & Champions League.
So don't expect the same from Everton, who knocked out Liverpool and Man Utd, teams that the "great" Chelsea have failed to beat this season aside from the Champions League victory over Liverpool.
As to the matter that they couldn't score, they were up against Rio & Vidic, one of the best central defence pairs in the EPL this season. Also Barcelona are the Champions League team of the moment, I would be surprised to see Chelsea escape with a draw considering the leaking defence seen in the last 4 or 5 games.
Face the facts, the cup isnt Chelsea's yet. As a Man Utd, fan I hope Chelsea have the same season as last year:

WITH NO SILVERWARE.

Posted by Derek Lee on 04/21/2009

Let's see what happen. I am sure the best team will win! Go Everton

Posted by Champions of England, Europe and The F***ing World on 04/21/2009

As a man utd fan I would have to agree. A toothless let alone depleted injury struck everton frontline will have absolutly NO CHANCE. Jagielka and Lescot will get found out by The Power that is Drogba and The Cunning that is Lampard.
Everton show up can collect your medals and go home, the cup leave it to the men in Blue.

Posted by KFHo on 04/21/2009

I'm just a little disappointed with this article. The thought that Chelsea "practically have their hands on the trophy" is a show of disrespect towards Everton Football Club. They are no pushovers, and on their day they can cause massive problems to any club. Make no mistake, I myself am a die-hard Chelsea fan and hope they win the trophy but I would be a little more cautious than you.

Your article also assumes that Chelsea would be contesting the Champions League Final. I think that's just getting a little too ahead of yourself. Please remember that the semifinal is against Barcelona, who are having an exceptional season.

I tried to ignore it, but it's silverWARE, not silverwear (which sounds like some kind of fancy clothing).

Posted by uzoma umelo on 04/21/2009

i believe we will win at least two trophies this season so rivals watch out

Posted by Matthew on 04/21/2009

Wow, you arrogant bast*rd.....really is amazing how you feel it is already won when Everton have knocked out liverpool, man u, and aston villa. There's no doubt you are the favourites but some of the posts on here are laughable, "noone deserves it more than chelski"....yeah, must be hard spending all those millions every year.

Posted by tim on 04/21/2009

I think Andy must be one of the most biased supporters I've heard! As Cruise said, look who Everton beat to get to the final. And as for not scoring against United's babies - their defence consisted of the Da Silva's (2 of the most promising full-back prospects in England, if not the world), Vidic, Ferdinand, and Evra when susbtituted for Fabio in defence. I bet any team would take that as their back-line! On top of that Everton's key attacking players were injured. Also, winning 2-1 against Arsenal from behind is far from a "smashing". Clearly Chelsea are favourites against Everton by some margin, but the trophy is certainly not in their hands yet! As seen against United penalty shoot-outs are a real possibility, and then it's 50/50.

Posted by Cpt-GG on 04/21/2009

I'm a Chelsea fan, but mate, you should cut that arrogance out. Why don't you talk more about football instead of disrespecting our opponents (both Everton and Barcelona)?

Really, let's take this one step at a time. There are still plenty of big matches before the FA Cup final.

Go Chelsea!

Posted by A Toffee on 04/21/2009

Don't worry, Andy, Chelsea will be well-rested for the FA Cup final after the Champions League final. I can't imagine watching Barcelona from couches back in London will be too exhausting.

Posted by ChelseaChamps on 04/21/2009

I wish they faced Man United in the final to get revenge from last year....but maybe Chelsea are destined to do that in the Champions League. go blues!(chelsea blues not everton blues)

Posted by Rishi Dayal on 04/21/2009

It's "silverware"... And don't underestimate Everton... They are a formidable opponent. Should be a decent game, but I think, in the end, Chelsea 2-1 Everton. Chelsea will go up 2-0 and then Everton will score sometime in the 70+ minute.

Posted by Brian on 04/21/2009

though I'm a Chelsea man, I don't think we should be happy just yet! Remember the ball is round. Anyone writing off Everton is not wise. Besides, as we've seen time an again, Chelsea can be brilliant, yet terrible at times, like the match against Spurs who beat them. Let's wish Chelsea luck and hope they play another spirited match without any errors. Look at what happened to Liverpool and Arsenal today. Mistakes cost these two sides highly, especially Liverpool.

Posted by Mannering on 04/22/2009

As an Evertonian, please accept my sincere wishes that your team gets what it so richly deserves.

Posted by Dave on 04/22/2009

Everton had to beat Liverpool, Aston Villa and Man U on the way to the finals. Other than Arsenal, who did chelsea have to beat? It will be 1-0 Everton, with Cahill scoring the winner! COYB!! Everton FA Cup Champs!

Posted by Colin on 04/22/2009

This is a completely classless post, and I can't believe that soccernet allows and arrogant prick like you write a blog for them. While I'm not saying that Everton will slaughter you, I am going to say don't be so sure of Chelsea being certs for the trophy. Might I remind you that every time we've played you in the last two years, we either drew or you narrowly won by one goal. Also, I'd like you to remember the fact that the last two games between us at Stamford Bridge have ended in draws, so don't think that Chelsea is flying as high above Everton as your post suggests.

3) Silver medal in the Champions League

Posted by Evergregerton on 04/22/2009

Why would this even be posted on the ESPN website? Total drivel, and disrepectful to Everton and their fans, which includes me. I think when Andy mentions "Silverwear", he's referring to the nice nightie he puts on every night before he goes to bed. Everton have knocked out Liverpool, Aston Villa, and now Man Utd, and we are capable of an upset, believe that. Chelsea may be the favourites, but it's not over until the fat lady sings. Hopefully that won't be Andy in his silver nightie.

Posted by Darker Blue on 04/22/2009

Wot a load of garbage and arrogance - we (EFC) have already beaten the top two + Villa in FA Cup this year.

I hope will be a good game and for Everton to beat the Chelsea mercenaries.

Posted by David on 04/22/2009

Overconfidence didn't help Liverpool in the CL and it won't help Chelsea in the FA Cup final. Everton have consistently frustrated Chelsea and they even managed a draw earlier in the year without playing a single true striker! Don't forget either that this is Everton's one chance for a trophy this season. They'll be playing for blood.

In all fairness, Chelsea have a much better squad and if they play to their abilities, Everton won't have much of a chance.

We are the final again!!! This time around, we should not underate Everton. They have been dreaming of entering final in this type of competition for the past few year, they are there now. Their stable is devoid of wares. so they will be coming out smoking against us(Chelsea)
If we can organize our defence very well and stop conceding cheap goals before we are galvanized into frenetic actions, surely we are going to defeat the Evertonians. UP BLUES!!! UP ABRAMOVICH ARMY!!! BLUES FOR LIFE!!!

Posted by John Flanagan on 04/22/2009

As a Blue fan for 46 years (Everton blue) the article is a bit of a joke but I don't blame Chelsea fans from wanting to play EFC and not MUFC. The FA Cup is full of upsets so don't be too surprised if Everton pull an upset. The squad is bare bones with no money and loads of injuries but on the day, you never know do you? The spirit is there and sometimes thats enough to win. I hope it's a good match to watch but I'll be honest and take a 0-0 penalty win in the end. Once the ales flowing Saturday night its all good. 2-1 Everton. Osman/Baines goals.

Posted by KFHo on 04/22/2009

Totally classless. Talking about having the trophy without the game even being played yet. Someone commented that you are giving Chelsea fans a bad name, and as a true Chelsea fan I am sorry to say that I have to agree with that. I sincerely hope that you will be removed from your position so that someone who actually has respect for other clubs and knows about football can take over.

Posted by AA on 04/22/2009

I believe Chelsea should settle for the F.A. cup this season and forget about the EPL and the CL. But if they think they are good enough to battle for the three they will loose all of them as (forgive me Chelsea faithful) they are a poor side. With Ballack, Lampard, overrated and outdated, Essien yet to return to his very best, a moody Drogba and a below average Anelka, Malouda and Kalou I wonder how Chelsea are in this position this time of the season. I personally wouldnt be surprised if they are blown by Barcas superiority in every aspect of the game. Come the CL final I would be more than surprised if Sky sports Show the Chelsea lineup.

Posted by Nic on 04/22/2009

Dude! Talk about counting your chickens before they hatch! Everton beat Aston Villa, Liverpool AND Man Utd to get to the final.

They are an exceedingly dangerous squad when in form and if you'd been at Wembley on Sunday you'd know that the Everton supporters are effectively a 12th man on the pitch...unlike all the Chelsea-come-lately's who had to be GIVEN free flags during their CL game with Liverpool to create atmosphere! Please!

I am an Arsenal fan here in peace . . I do congratulate them on their victory and agree that they deserved to beat us . . But I see a lot of Chelsea supporters assuming that they have already won the FA Cup having not yet faced Everton . . That shows that most Chelsea fans are arrogant . . Everton are a team that have been underrated and have not been given the credit they deserve for the last three seasons or so . . I see them as the biggest threat to the top four in the future . . Everton have deserved their place in the final and have not achieved a top six finish for the third consecutive season by fluke . . One has got to respect all teams . . Nothing is a surety in football . . Anyways all the best to both teams in the final . . May the best team win!!! I know I am going to get a response saying the best team being Chelsea!! No ways man!!! The team that plays better on the day should win!!! Hope for a high scoring final!!

Don't you look like a supreme idiot after being held goal-less by Everton at the Bridge this afternoon.

And the win against Arsenal was some really rubbish football by both sides, not your "powerful best", as you put it.

This is EXACTLY what we used to hate so much about Arsenal/Man Utd/Liverpool, and now we are becoming like them. I'm assuming the correspondent is a newer fan because had he endured the lows of the seventies and eighties he might not be so dismissive of Everton.
Everton are in the top six, and we didn't score against them in 180 minutes this season. While Everton were seeing off Liverpool, Aston Villa and Man Utd to reach the final, we were dealing with the 'might' of Southend, Ipswich, Watford and Coventry!! Everton have earned tremendous respect for their ability to remain in the top six while suffering from a brutal injury list, particularly to their forwards. I'm as hopeful as anyone that we will be adding the FA Cup to the trophy cabinet this year, but don't underestimate Everton, they deserve some respect for the season they've had.

Learn to respect other teams Chelsea supporters coz you wouldn't be where you are if it weren't for Abramovich's millions . . 0-0 is all that you could muster . . If you look at history, tradition and number of trophies won Everton are a much bigger club than Chelsea . . Plus I am an Arsenal fan here . . I m not bitter about the semi-final defeat to chelsea and agree you guys deserved to win it . . But Chelsea are not the biggest club in the world and their fans have got too much headweight . . I hope you guys play better in the final otherwise I m sorry I can see the FA Cup heading to Goodison Park . .
