Celtic FC

Some may say that the league is over and that maybe so but Celtic and which ever players pull on that jersey from now until the end of the season, must give their manager 100% and hopefully they can regroup in the summer and think of the new challenge ahead for next season.

The media pressure that has been on Tony Mowbray and his Celtic side has almost reached fever pitch but it seems like one man has taken it upon himself to try and put a smile on the faces of the supporters and his short term gaffer, that man is Robbie Keane.

The form of Mr Keane and indeed the club's decision to bring him here in January has been up for much debate of late but no one can deny that the Irishman hit man certainly knows the route to goal and this has been proved in the last couple matches, especially taking the heat out of a sticky situation when he hit a hat-trick against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup when many thought and maybe hoped that Celtic would slip up.

As they beat Kilmarnock 3-0,Hibs were held at home by an impressive Ross County side and Dundee were knocked out by Raith Rovers, the semi-final draw would be complete after the Rangers v Dundee Utd game but as they fought out a thrilling 3-3 draw to take the match to a replay at Tannadice, both names would go into the hat and many waited and wondered would the Old Firm be drawn together(if Rangers beat Dundee United that is!)....the answer was no!

Celtic came out first and as the nation held its breath.....the next ball would be the winners of the Hibs v Ross County tie.Now having seen all the matches over last weekend, what I would say is I would like to give credit to Raith and Ross County for their styles of football which were very enjoyable to watch.

It may well be an Old Firm final on the cards in many minds but I would just say beware the underdogs! I am sure the fans of all the other clubs will be thinking this is our chance to get at the Old Firm.

Other news this week has been that club will at long last erect a statue in memory of the late great Jock Stein outside Celtic Park.

I just wonder why this was not done some time ago and indeed listening to the various radio phone ins and supporters on the street, the views are mixed on where the statue should go ?

I know the club will want it as pride of place outside Celtic Park but many think it should go somewhere near or inside the Jock Stein stand, which is not that bad an idea.

I think that many fans are of the opinion that Jock should have had something like this done long ago and that could have been the main focus at the front of Celtic Park but at least now the club have put the wheels in motion and the big man will be home once again.

Former Celtic and Scotland defender John Kennedy will at last be getting a benefit match which looks like taking place the day after the Cup Final(May 16th) and it looks like it could be a real club v country battle as Celtic will take on Scotland.

I remember being at the "friendly" match v Romania on his debut for his country when the horrendous injury was inflicted by Ganea after the whistle had blown for a foul and my mate Jeff and I knew as the young John came round that the damage was serious then.

He had come through the Celtic youth system and was looking like he could have been at the heart of the Celtic defence for years as he was performing in high pressure matches for the club on some of the biggest stages in the football world, the Nou Camp and Ibrox within a short space of time and looked classy and at ease in the heart of the Celtic defence.

He tried to get back to full fitness with Celtic after the injury and even went on loan to Norwich to gain match fitness but he returned to Celtic after damaging his knee whilst at Carrow Road.

John was forced to retire from football on medical grounds in 2009 at the age of only 26.

With this news of a beneft match for John it gives supporters a proper chance to show much he meant to them and I hope the Celtic supporters will turn out for this match no matter what the outcome of the League and the Scottish Cup,of course they will-Faithfull Through and Through especially when it comes to one of their own!
