After all that has been written and said in the press since this draw was made, now is the time for the talking to stop and the action to begin!
Much has been made of Rapid Vienna and their cheating tactics back in 1984 when after defeating Celtic 3-1 in in Austria, they themselves lost 3-0 at Celtic Park in a match that will forever be remembered for the antics of the Rapid players as Celtic beat them fair and square!
I say fair and square because on the football field that is exactly what Celtic did do and if it was not for one moment of madness from a Celtic fan who saw the need to throw a bottle on to the field of play when the team were winning 3-0 is beyond me!
If it had not been for the bottle then Celtic would not have had to play Rapid for a third time down at Old Trafford and therefore lose the tie 1-0 on the night, the hard work was done at Celtic Park 25 years ago only for some fool to throw it all away!
Celtic cannot afford anything like that tonight, for one we have moved on 25 years and both teams have changed dramatically, some of the players who are taking to the field tonight will not even know about what happened between the two clubs all those years ago!
It is what happens tonight that matters to both clubs but Celtic MUST get the points in the bag tonight after the defeat in their first Europa League match and put some much needed pride back into the European scene in Scotland and at Celtic Park.
The Austrians will come to Celtic Park a dangerous side and Celtic must treat them with every respect both on and off the field as many of these fans may not have been around in 1984 when Rapid and Celtic fought out the infamous clash so treat the visitors with respect off the field and if the mood takes you boo the team on the park-I just hope that it is not the home team that are the ones getting booed!
Rapid will be a dangerous side, anyone who can beat Hamburg 3-0 in their first match and knock Aston Villa out of the competition must be decent and Celtic will have to be on their toes or they could go the same way.
After tonight Celtic have a massive task ahead of them on Sunday when they face Champions Rangers at Ibrox and even though Walter Smith's men are not firing on all fronts just yet,you get the feeling that it will only be a matter of time before they do!
Facing Sevilla they were up against it and they were denied a stonewall penalty when Naismith was taken down in the box and they eventually lost the match 4-1 to a very strong side and they will be looking to put things right at Ibrox but as Ravi and everyone who supports Celtic or Rangers knows only too well, one minute you can be up the next you can be down and if you have had a bad result in Europe in midweek, what better way to put things right again than a victory over your oldest rivals!
I hope that tonight's match is remembered for all the right reasons and a Celtic victory of course!
