This weekend,Scotland will hold it's breath! As a nation our only chance of getting to South Africa 2010 is in the hands or should that be feet of every player that our national team manager,George Burley names on Saturday and Wednesday,we have a chance no matter how slim it may be,it is still a chance!
Hampden will be the focus of every Scot this weekend as our dream will either die or be kept alive as the national side take full focus away from club football as Scotland unites as one to roar the boys to six points....or does it?
Many people say that Old Firm fans could not care less about their national side, well I take issue with this!
As a kid I used to stand and watch Dalglish,McStay,Souness,Leighton,Miller,McLeish,Strachan,Cooper,Nicholas,McGrain and others and I was proud to go and watch my country playing anyone and it gave me a great sense of pride to watch Scotland play as they have given me many great memories supporting and now writing about my country.
I find it sad that how bad or good that Scotland may be that many fans would turn their backs on their country! No there is nothing wrong with giving your full support to your club, that is expected but when your country needs you,you have to answer the call and get behind George and the boys!
The Scotland match is not the only big event happening this weekend in Glasgow and the surrounding areas as there are another three worthwhile events this weekend for anyone who cannot make it to Hampden.
On Saturday Hollyoaks Lads v Borussia MB at Lochburn Park, the home of the famous Maryhill Juniors FC and this match has a 2 o clock kick off and the admission is £5 for Adults and Kids over 5, £3 and it is hoped that this match will raise money for cancer charities.
This was a ground that will be close to the hearts of many Celtic fans as Danny McGrain and Tommy Burns once played for the Hill before dawning the famous Hoops!
On Sunday at Guy Meadow Cumbernauld,k/o 2.30 Celtic fans v Rangers fans with all proceeds going to the late great legends Tommy Burns and Davie Cooper charities.
Also on Sunday at Fir Park,Motherwell take on a Manchester United X1 at Fir Park for the Sir Matt Busby shield.
Other bits of news are concerning new signing Zheng Zhi who has now been granted a work permit and now can hopefully look forward to being added to the squad for the Dundee United on September 12th.
Also may I just wish big Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink all the very best in his new career with Premiership side Hull City, who have just signed the Dutch forward on a two year deal.
