This has not been the best of weeks for Celtic and perhaps this could be another one of those seasons if last week is anything to go by.
Rivals Rangers faced Motherwell in an early kick-off and were held to a 0-0 draw and perhaps expectations were high as the fans heading to Celtic Park heard the news but they could only watch on as the Hoops could only draw 1-1 with Dundee United at home,a team that both Old Firm fans found hard to break down last season.
Perhaps the thought of failing to steal a march on their rivals made the Celtic support more flustrated but the lack of a cutting edge up front would not have left manager Tony Mowbray too happy either but he would have been pleased with the performance of young Niall McGinn who had an impressive match for the Hoops.
Celtic were looking to put their league diappointment behind them as they made their Europa League debut on Thursday as they faced Hapoel Tel-Aviv and despite taking the lead in the match through a goal from Georgios Samaras they surrendered their advantage and eventually lost the match 2-1 much to the disgust of the travelling Celtic support who have watched their team go backwards in their last three European matches with two defeats again Arsenal and now this latest defeat.Celts now face a tough task in the group especially as leaders and old rivals Rapid Vienna come calling to Celtic Park at the start of October and they have just beaten Hamburg 3-0 in their first Group C match so it all makes for a big night and a must win match for Celtic.
They will be hoping that Artur Boruc will not be as busy as he was against Hapoel and maybe we'll have a centre-half that will do his talking on the pitch instead of off it!
Yes the Gary the heat is not only on the team after that result but also on you! Do you think it was wise to come out and demand or even warn the club that you will be off in the summer if you demands are not met? Do you actually believe that you are half the player that you were last year when you won both the Scottish Football Writers Player of the Year and Clydesdale Bank Scottish Player of the year? No player is bigger than the club and certainly in this current team Tony Mowbray will surely see that there is room for improvement especially in the defence!
I agree that Gary has had a couple of decent seasons but many feel that both he and StephenMcManus are the weak links at the back for Celtic and feel that it should have been Caldwell and not O Dea that moved on,even though Darren will be back in January!
When players start making demands on the club and these stories come out in the press, then it is not good for both the player and club concerned.Gary and his team mates have been given the boost that Rangers have again failed to score on their travels after drawing 0-0 with Killie and so the main focus now must clearly be on this must win match v Hearts today and they could go into this match without Georgios Samaras who picked up a shin knock in the midweek European defeat but Hearts also have injury problems with Templeton,Elliot and Jonsson all out.
I have nothing but admiration for Csaba Laszlo at Hearts and what he has to put up with at Tynecastle but he is honest and good to listen to and if he wants Hearts to start behaving like the Beatles I only hope Tony Mowbray hasn't told his Celtic players to start behaving like the Rolling Stones because if Celtic don't get a result today the boss could be shouting Give Me Shelter as the home support won't except anything less than three points!
Two other wee bits of news this weekend that are worth a mention,
First of all a wee non-Celtic line but it is worth a mention-Saturday saw the 100th Birthday of the home of Partick Thistle FC Firhill, the old Jags are everyone's "other team" in Glasgow especially when in the wrong end of Glasgow! Being a Maryhill boy,I remember going to Firhill to see not only Celtic but most of the clubs in Scotland and it was great to see them celebrating yesterday with a 2-0 win over Dumfermline with ex-Celt Simon Donnelly getting the second goal!
Sunday 20th September, now what else happened that day? No not two days before my Dad's Birthday and even more chat about the good old days when we used to go to the football to see some great matches and players when I was a kid but it was the Birthday of a Celtic legend, the magnificent seven himself the one,the only Henrik Larsson who has just turned 38 today-Happy Birthday to the King! Still the best ever Celt that I have seen in my time watching the Hoops and still a legend at Celtic Park, maybe the club will show some of his goals at Celtic Park today and I am glad to say that thanks to my neighbour John,I will be heading to Paradice to give the Bhoys a cheer today-"Come On The Hoops!

Gary Caldwell has been punching about his weight for a long time.
There has never been a player at the club who has made so many individual errors in so many vital games.
1/ Own goal away to Benfica
2/ Own goal to Arsenal
3/ Gave away the free kick which led to the William Gallas deflected goal.
He has a lot to learn and should realise that there is a reason why he is not the highest paid player at the club.
If you start putting in performances that the likes of Paul Elliott, Marc Rieper, Roy Aitken, Johann Mjallby and even Bobo Balde, then you will get the big bucks. Until then, shut up and let your performance son the pitch do the talking.
Dont worry Gary, you can join your brother at Burnley and I will personally pay for your taxi there.
Hail Hail
