Having been barely able to crack a smile since our derby day defeat on Sunday I've taken the time to digest exactly why we left Ewood Park with no points.
My conclusion? Well, that's pretty simple; Blackburn deserved their victory on the day. That's not because they outplayed us as a football side, instead they earned their victory in typical Sam Allardyce fashion. Rovers were simply more physical than Burnley, they pressed us better and picked up more of the second balls.
From the moment that Robbie Blake wonderstike hit the back of the net we were second best for the rest of the first half. We stood off Rovers, gifted them plenty of possession and handed them three goals.
Despite the Dunn equaliser and Chimbonda third being well worked moves, the ease at which we let it happen was laughable. It was almost like a training ground demo as we limply opened ourselves up.
In the build up to the second goal there was a foul on Stephen Jordan by Franco Di Santo that was missed by the referee which forced the Burnley fullback to obstruct the oncoming Brain Jensen. That incident aside, we hadn’t learnt from any of the lessons that lost us the game at Stoke as a side with exactly the same long ball and throws tactic punished our naivety once more.
In the second half we improved as the likes of Wade Elliot and Robbie Blake tried to get us playing the football we had come accustomed to. Sadly it just wasn’t happening for us and time and time again we needless gave the ball away.
The introduction of Chris Eagles helped as he immediately took the fight to Rovers. His cameo performances have been of a consistently high standard since the start of the season and must soon surely earn his place in the starting eleven. It was nice to see him show some fight and he deserved his last minute goal, even though it merely served to give the score-line a fairer reflection of the game. Kevin McDonald also did his claim for a starting berth no harm as he looked composed and assured when he was brought on for Andre Bikey.
Eagles post-match comments impressed me too, as our number 33 stated that on our day Rovers are no threat to us. And I’m with him on that; but the fact of the matter is we lost to an average side who, and it pains me to say this, looked like they wanted it more on the day. Let's just hope a defeat against our most fierce rivals will mean will we finally learn from our mistakes.
Despite our defeat I will always commend Owen Coyle and his team for at least trying to play football. For the most part we weren’t at the races on Suinday and let ourselves down; but I’d rather keep the ball on the floor and take the chance of our play not coming off than have our goalkeeper take free kicks on the half way line and lobbing every throw in thirty yards.
The East Lancashire derby part one may have been won by Blackburn; but until our chance to put things right at Turf Moor next March we’ll just take keeping ourselves above Blackburn in the league; starting with a win in our next local derby against Wigan on Saturday.

Your synopsis of the game is as delusional as you obviously are! Stop bleating and take a reality check.

I think that Sam missed a pretty one sided derby. 3-2 realy flattered Burnley. Playing the ball "on the floor" hasn't worked away from Turf Moor nor will it in the future. "Playing football" is a loser's lament and Burnley would be well served to play for a result on their travels. Sam's Championship mindset is frightening ... pretty football with limited resources and talent will get you relegated most times (West Brom was very attractive, weren't they?) Face it, Sam; Rovers were superior on the day and have the more talented and experienced side.
Good luck to Burnley. I hope they stay up and the East Lancs Derby can be an exciting fixture for many years to come.

Hoofball my a**e. We played some quality stuff and didn't allow you to play for most of the game. The better side won - and quite easily despite the scoreline - and I'm tired of the rubbish being talked about Blackburn's style of play. Its far more skilful than people like you give us credit for.

What part of you deserved to win don't you understand?
Hmm true, but unlike West Brom we can win at home and score the goals that will keep us up.
Your reactions to my comments has finally made me smile for the first time since yesterday. I knew that headline would get you all going again.
Brilliant work as usual guys.

you seem to have missed the fact that your "footballing " side should have been 1 player down after 10 minutes when he stamped on Chimbonda ..and Jansen's "classy" tackle on Roberts was pure Burnley:- as the BBC commentator said "That must be a red!".

Rovers scum. We were awful yesterday but you lot are average at best!
See you at the turf. If you can fill your half of the cricket field.
Up the clarets!

Ha ha ha. Have the 3-2 tshirts reached the rovers club shop yet? Clowns.
There will be only one winner at t'turf.

Poor David Lewis getting tears in his eyes.
I'm just glad Fat Sam never got the England job. People call the Premier League the best in the world...with teams like Stoke and bastards its most definitely not.

Dirty Dingle dont worry about the standard of football in the premier league you wont be in it next year. How can you comment on football with relics like Alexander playing. Past it just like you.
thanks again for the points.

It is certainly true Blackburn outmuscled and quite possibly tactically outplayed Burnley on sunday. However this was by doing something which is not in the spirit of football and that is to stop one of the sides playing football!Shown by the fact the only bit of class on show that day was Robbie Blakes wondergoal I struggle to find any class shown by Rovers, hang on maybe a classic long through and flick on 4 a goal which by Rovers standards is class.
I now realise why Blackburn can never fill there ground (yes we saw the empty seats on sunday)it's not because of an unpassionate support but more they are served up that crap each week!
Soo enjoy your moment in the sunshine or rather out the bottom three the battle was won the war is not over, hopefully in the batle of the Turf good will triumph over evil, just like a film where the good guys always prevail in the end and Allardyce bastardisation of football squad are left contemplating Barnsley away!

What humours me the most is how instead of supporting their own they are wasting their energy spouting aggressive crap on the Burnley blog. I'm also amazed at how they can call us the Dingles and yet it is obvious from the comments on this blog and the comments on Sam's last that they are illiterate and disillusioned by a 3-2 victory.
But as I have stated on the Rovers blog (which has yet to be approved, possibly due to the fact that Rovers do not appear to have a sense of humour unlike Sam here):
'I feel proud that the Burnley fans kept their dignity and did not attack 'the Rovers' blog, similar to how they kept their dignity and self respect at the derby. Unlike the Rovers fans who fought amongst themselves and behaved like animals, but then again they were only following the example set by the Rovers players who blocked goalkeepers and viciously fouled midfielders.'
Let’s see if Rovers fans can behave themselves at the Turf and Rovers can play some proper football, I doubt it!

The bastards play a tiny tiny bit of decent football and their fans think their brazil 1970. They are so used to watching crap football in front of no fans their eyes deceive them when they get a good result.
Wait till the inevitable happens and dunn gets injured and di santos (as fat sam calls him) goes back to benchwarm at chelsea. we'll see if you still pick up results then with barndoor roberts, fatboy mccarthy and the croatian grabbi leading your attack.

How about Diouf's imaginary banana filling?

Blackburn won that game on effort and execution. Burnley lost that game with poor defending and line clearing. Finishing has not been our strong suit and yet Burnley allowed us to score 3.
The Dingles are a talented and spirited team who should manage the results needed to stay up. It's good for all parties involved if they avoid relegation and this derby is staged every season instead of every blue moon in the FA Cup.

As a neutral observer, I thought it was a good game of football, pitting two traditional rivals with such contrasting style of play.
I hope the reverse fixture is played at a faster pace and with more clear cut chances.
Great job to both teams!

how could burnley be playing football if the most of the EPL fans aren't enjoying it? you had your fair share of luck in your home games and seeing how you "played football" but got trounced 5-0s, our definition of football is definitely quite different.

Bush Phucker, I take it that's aimed at me?
In no way was my comment racist. In fact it was a joke about comments diouf made himself after Rovers game at Everton. Diouf was accused of racially abusing a ballboy and then decided to turn it around on the fans saying they threw bananas at him. Investigations by police, the club, the press photographers and tv cameras showed no fruit was actually thrown and diouf had made it up. So it was a comment about him being a liar and had nothing to do with his race so get your facts right next time you moron.

Let's face it. Outside of Turf Moor, Burnley is rubbish. Blackburn was better than them on that day and the game was all over by half-time.

To be fair to Burnley, they do play great football on their day. They beat United and Everton and of course they had to ride their luck at times against the top teams. In the second half against Sunderland Burnley outplayed them while they also dispatched Birmingham with ease.
On their travels they haven’t have the results but they still try and play the same way. Just because you get beat 5-0 by a team worth millions more doesn’t mean you didn’t try and play football.
Teams don’t like playing against Burnley because they are a good side. They had an off day on Sunday and Rovers deserved their victory. Burnley are not world beaters and nowhere in this article does it suggest they are, just that they try and play the right way. Nor does it either suggest Rovers are simply just hoofball. It says that’s their main tactic and it is, I’ve seen them three or four times this season and that’s just the way they play and good luck to them. Perhaps they played it on the deck more.

now I like to see good football, but I like to see my club win even more... I would never trade a result for 2 halves of entertainment. That said no team on that pitch looked like Arsenal, but on the bright side neither manager whined like Arsene after the match either.
