Bolton have undoubtedly been this season’s surprise package thus far. Under the guidance of former front-man Owen Coyle, the Wanderers are riding high in the table, 7th place, and with an outside chance of bringing European football back to the Reebok Stadium.

But now as we approach the turn of the year, we assess which players have upped their game, which have made the most difference in the impressive turnaround at Bolton, given that Coyle is working largely with the same set of players that his predecessor Gary Megson was.

Paul Robinson turned 32 today, and can have had no better tonic than when his name was announced over the Reebok tannoy as man of the match, moments after Stuart Holden had given the Wanderers a dramatic victory over now managerless Blackburn Rovers.
