This team is shredding my nerves. Just last week, I was feeling pretty good despite consecutive 4-0 maulings at the hands of Chelsea, because hidden in the wreckage was a solid 45 minutes. Unfortunately all that has evaporated with this capitulation. It was a spineless performance.
I had thought that Villa were there for the taking. I know that Bolton have been dismal at Villa Park recently, but I thought that there was a chance for a result this time. After all, Villa had struggled against West Ham in an odd midweek game and their form had dipped after they beat Chelsea last month.
But what do I know? Bolton were inadequate and Villa simply had their way with them. It was a shameful performance, a grim reminder of the unrest that bubbled to the surface after that unsatisfactory home performance against Stoke in September.
In the last ten days, Bolton have lost 13-1 on aggregate, and I'm left wondering if the relief provided by some good performances - two wins and a draw from four tough games - was a mirage. I thought that Bolton had finally turned a corner under Gary Megson, but maybe I was wrong. Maybe it was a blip.
If it was a blip or a hiccup or whatever, where does that leave Megson and that noisy portion of the fans that remain to be convinced by him? Probably right where we were after the Stoke game.

Enough, is enough. Let's get off Megson for a while. After being a detractor for a long time I now find my myself wanting to come to his defense. He has put together a good squad considering the amount of available cash and although I was all over him about last year's tactics, or lack thereof, I must admit this year he has shown some real verve and creativity.
Face it! It was an unusually shocking performance from the lads but I am sure it was just a blip. They are, as I stated, a good squad and I can only see much improved performances on the horizon.

Supporting this team is like being in an abusive relationship. Every weekend they hurt me a lot and then, over the course of the week I convince myself that the next weekend will be better, they'll change, do good this time. So I always come back each weekend brimming with optimism about the next 90 minutes. And so the cycle starts again. Two 4-0 beatings by Chelsea I can take, Chelsea are after all a fantastic side, but 5-1 by Villa? That hurts.

Oh come on Matilda. Aston Villa are a fantastic side, that beat Chelsea if you can remember. Beating Bolton 5-1 was not shocking at all. Villa have been needing to create such a game for themselves, because they've always had a performance like this in them. It's no shock that Knight and Cahill couldn't get it past that they were sold because they couldn't handle Villa, and it was proven. It's only surprising it wasn't 10-0 in all honesty. "That hurts." is a terrible comment to make, because Villa are a very good team.

Getting beat 5-1 hurts anytime regardless of the team. But I would say Villa and Bolton are roughly equal in terms of quality. Although we hid it very well on the game Bolton are a good side as well (I cite the Tottenham game at the beginning of October if you don't believe me). I'm not saying Villa are a bad side, I quite like them, but they are not 5-1 better than Bolton. If you look at predictions most people agree with me and say the two teams are pretty even. Bolton were shite that day.
