I feel like it's very important that if you want to dole out criticism in an irresponsible and uninformed way, you should be able to admit when you've been wrong and take some criticism too. In the past I haven't always been 100% positive about the way Bolton have been playing under Gary Megson, but this week I feel like I'm in no position to criticise.
When the transfer window closed, I pointed out that it was vital for Bolton to bank some points in September because the fixtures in October were going to be brutal, and it's difficult to find fault right now after seven points from three tricky games and a plucky League Cup win at Upton Park. Whatever you think of Megson, (and plenty have had their say recently), the last three Premier League results are hard to argue with.
Pompey (A), Won 3-2
Stoke (H), Draw 1-1
Birmingham (A), Won 2-1
The Birmingham result might be the best of the three. Alex McLeish has them playing organised defensive football and plenty of teams have found them tough to break down. Spurs are the only other team to score twice against them this season.
Squirreling away points now is critical when you glance at the fixtures. Realistically, Bolton might not score any points until the Lancashire derby at the end of November. Let's face it; it's going to be a cold, hard winter.
Meanwhile, Megson will be "celebrating" his two-year anniversary at the club when Everton come to the Reebok. While the fans may never warm to Megson, his utilitarian tactics and some of the one-dimensional players he has brought to the club, there's a chance they could learn to live with the results.
As long as the team is achieving results, Megson will keep his job, and I have a feeling that would be absolutely fine with him. It hurts to say this, but I'm not sure there are three worse teams in the Premier League this season than Bolton. Just remember, it's not the three worst teams that are relegated, it's the three teams with the least points, which is a fairly crucial difference, (see Hull City 2008/09).
This team is turning out to be a bit of an ugly baby; one with a face only Mother Megson could love.

A cup win at Upton Park? Really? Who'd have thought that the Boleyn Ground would be relocated to Horwich?
And as for not being sure there are three worse teams in the Premier League? Have you watched any football this year? It seems not. Wanderers aren't great, but they're not that bad.
Try going to a game before you write your next batch of drivel.
