Wow, I feel like the sun has just come out. It's just extreme relief, as I soak it in and warm up after a grim, gritty winter. I needed that. Everyone needed it.
West Ham are sneaky good at the moment. Zola is supposed to be very into the coaching side of things, as is Steve Clarke, rather than the Wheeling and Dealing like some managers are at this time of year. They've moulded West Ham into an organised team that makes good decisions most of the time. I think they'll beat better teams than Bolton, home or away. This was a very, very good result.
The fans needed this win. In the second half, the tension among the supporters was palpable. Like a sauna, you could barely see through the fug of nerves. Too many times recently Bolton have dissolved as second halves have gone on, and when Scott Parker scored and the Hammers applied pressure you could feel the colour and confidence wash out of the players. The whole stadium held it's breath. Here we go again.
The players needed this win. This is a team that can start fast, and when they do there aren't many teams around that can withstand Bolton. Matty Taylor may not be Cristiano Ronaldo, but when he's playing well, goals happen. Emile Heskey should not get another England cap while Kevin Davies is fit and firing like he has been this season, (now 10 goals to 4, in favour of Kev). And it was great to see Johan Elmander back on a football pitch, whatever you might think of his price tag.
Gary Megson needed this win, and to be fair to him he said so after the match. Now Megson, his players and hopefully the fans have something to build on, something to hold on to.
Cheer up. Spring's coming.
