Blackburn Rovers

But hey! Hull have scored the first goal of the Premier season, even if Chelsea have equalised before half-time, so let's get at them, Man City & their millions.

Ryan Nelson's knee needs a fitnees test, but forget Roque Santa Cruz, who is still recovering from knee surgery.

OK, so Drogba finally settles Hull in the 92nd minute, and puts Chelsea top, before 3 o'clock. Hull are in the bottom relegation spot. Season over.

Two more corners, but no joy, first by by El-Hadji Diouf, Christopher Samba takes a shot which is saved, then MG Pedersen, easy save. Blackburn have had 6 shots on target, Man City 1, and it's 0-1.

McCarthy shot, Given saves it, now Jason Roberts, wide. 37 gone, Robinho brings a save from Robinson, nothing from the corner by Craig Bellamy as Nzonzi clears. Less than 5 minutes left.

Another corner by Craig Bellamy, clearance Andrews.

Out for half-time, and away again with Lars Jacobsen up there without oxygen, saved by Given. El-Hadji Diouf has a go, clearance by Richard Dunne.

On to the 65th minute, holding 0-1, Jason Roberts, who's done as well as anyone leaves the field to be replaced by Franco Di Santo.

Carlos Tevez comes on for Robinho, 70th minute. 75th Paul Gallagher on as a substitute, replacing Keith Andrews. Still trying to rescue a point, 0-1, definitely not out-classed. By now, Rovers have had 9 shots on target, 6 off, to Man City's 3 & 2.

79th minute, Micah Richards booked, 84th, Stephen warnock gets a yellow too. 86th David Hoilett comes on in place of El-Hadji Diouf.

91st minute Stephen Ireland buries the game at 0-2 for Man. City. Into the relegation zone.

Out again when Arsenal beat Everton 6-1.

Sunshine after the heavy rain, we're playing 4:5:1 ahead of Bywater, Teale the striker. I'll run that past you again. Top-scorer Teale the striker.

01 Bywater 02 Connolly 03 McEveley 05 Addison 17 Buxton
21 Moxey 04 Green 07 Croft 08 Savage 16 Pearson 11 Teale
Subs
13 Deeney, 06 Leacock, 14 Barker, 10 Commons, 18 Pringle, 09 Hulse, 15 Varney

First corner for the Scunnies, after they've come close. Continuing to keep us up there, a free kick, but easy for Bywater.

Scunthorpe
01 Murphy 03 Williams 06 Byrne 12 Jones 02 Wright 07 Sparrow 08 McCann 16 Woolford
18 O'Connor 09 Hayes 10 Hooper
Sub
22 Lillis, 26 Canavan, 04 Togwell, 11 Thompson, 19 Wright, 14 Forte, 17 May

A quick run in for us, McEveley can do nothing but give it to their goalie.

Jay McEveley & Stephen Pearson go for the same ball and away goes Martin Woolford. Bywater saves, but can't hold on, and it's in for 1-0 Scunthorpe, Gary Hooper, 16 minutes, close range, picking up the rebound.

Paul Green joined by Pearson on a great run, through to Green, defenders backing off GO ON.. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.
1-1 20 minutes.

Lee Croft centres, out for a corner, Croft again just off with the corner, Miles heads wide.

Hooper and Hayes on a run, Hooper puts it wide when it was easier to score. Still 1-1.

Hayes comes in again within 5 minutes, and again puts it wide. The Iron have had 5 shots on target, 3 off, the Rams just 1, and it's 1-1.

Another Scunny effort from Gary Hooper, this time saved by Bywater.

We get a free kick, Gary Teale takes it, we get a corner, for Lee Croft to Addison, no Buxton, no Gary Teale who loses it. We're lucky to be 1-1 so far.

Good run from Pearson, poor shot, deflected, goalie's. Less than 5 minutes left.

McEveley to Green, who scuffs his shot, wasting a great chance, wide. A minute left. Up comes Hooper through the wide open spaces, scores 2-1 right on half-time. He's driving a bus through our defence with flick-and-go footy, while we sit back, and luckily it's 2-1, not 4-1.

Two minutes added. Gary Teale's not looking too threatening today, let's see what Nigel can do at half-time, maybe 4:4:2? Commons? Hulse? We're lucky not to be dead and buried says Roger Davies. We seem to have nothing to stop Hooper and Hayes.

Rams are out early for the 2nd half, no change yet, waiting for The Iron. We're playiing towards our supporters now, over 1,000 of them for sure. Teale wastes the ball, goalie clears.

Scunthorpe attack again, McConnely clears. Sparrow picking up the crumbs. A 3rd goal or time running out will kill us off, unless, yes Jay's off, Kris Commons on, 4:4:2, 53rd minute. We have to match Scunny's hunger now. Commons inter-changing with Green, up to Miles, Teale.

Savage Commons brought down for a free kick, taken short, wins one closer in as Kris is fouled again. Corner for the Rams. Out to Teale. We're putting the pressure on, and Paul Green is down, pulled down by the keeper. Penalty. Kris Commons comes up, strokes the ball, cool.. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.
2-2 60th minute.

A long shot from McCann, easy save by Bywater. Up towards the fans, Joe Murphy off his line, gets away with it, but we're on level terms somehow. Well, we know how, we're sharper with Commons on, it's just that we could have been buried and forgotten by half-time. Even Gary Teale isn't looking so lost now.

Good break, Croft in, Commons decent header, but into the goalie's arms.

Here's Rob Hulse! 17 minutes left, he's fit and on for Paul Green, presumably resting on his laurels, and resting that bruised toe. Scunthorpe free kick, Moxey rescues Bywater. They've had 9 shots on target, 3 off, to our 2 & 3, but we're holding at 2-2 for a point.

Free kick for us. We're turning up the heat - could there be a winner? Lee Croft looking good.

Scunthorpe's Josh Wright on for McCann. Less than 10 minutes, we break again, but it's volleyed away. Commons takes it back, throw in for Cap'n Connolly. They're straight back through us, a counter, a break, falls for Woolford, who scores, 3-2. 7 minutes left to save a point now. Really bad defending. Scunny in full voice. Another run, around Savage, Woolford blocked, Wright, Sparrow, Hayes, Hooper, Hayes, Wright, and out off Teale. Hooper off to applause, man-of-the-match, subbed by Jonathan Forte. Pearson takes it up, Commons, but Williams, clears it up. Michael O'Connor leaves the field to be replaced by Sam Togwell, 87th.

Shaun Barker debut on for Paul Connolly. Another corner for The Iron.

4 minutes added time as Scunthorpe look for their 4th, Bywater clears, Commons, Hulse, out to Teale, another poor ball. Back down, Savage back header, falls short for Bywater, but it's cleared. Desperate action up towards the Derby fans, cleared, and Scunny's back at us, Bywater clears, another quick break, poor delivery, goodnight, we're down to 8th, just above Scunthorpe on goal difference - they needed 2 more to overhaul us.

Rovers showed plenty of toughness, but ManCity's class showed in the two quality strikes. "ManCity's class"? Wow, have times changed. Remember when "quality striker" at ManCity usually referred to someone who handled a box of matches well?

Sam's got to just dust off from this match and get the lads ready for the second game.

As for the Rams....ugh. A defense like that will be an anvil for any aspirations of climbing high in the table.
