Dissecting a Disaster

The sadness, the despair, the anger. The three factors have meant that I’ve had a reasonably miserable time recently. Bluenoses have seen success and failure, they have felt happiness and sorrow, but this is one of those times when disbelief and anger are the emotions which cloud your judgement. It’s taken this long for me to even want to write this article, but with scaremongers circling around the club, and with the pack of wolves looking to take away our biggest stars, it’s time to face up to the darkness that threatens to engulf our club.

The Key to Our Future?

Birmingham City stand within touching distance of safety and another season in the Barclays Premier League, and in all honesty, it's down to the old heads. A select group of players have performed once again, and it is a core nucleus of players who are looking to see Blues over the line. Numerous players have joined the club, but once again, it is the same old faces who have done the business

A few good results and how the tide turns. Blues have won a couple of games and all of a sudden they look a good bet for survival. Thank god for that.

Stumbling into the Run-In

Nine games. Nine games to save our Premier League dream. Nine games to get as many points as possible and keep our heads above the water. Nine games to avoid the depth back into the abyss.
Carling Cup Champions, tick.
Survival specialists?

We'll Be Running Around The Bullring With The Cup

It still hasn't sunk in. 27/2/2011. Possibly the greatest day in the history of Birmingham City Football Club. Forget Carlsberg's claim to making dreams come true, it's all about the Carling Cup for Bluenoses everywhere...

We're Going to Wembley, Que Sera Sera

The big day is nearly upon us. In five days time, Stevie Carr will lead out a Birmingham City side spurred on by the presence of 31,000 Bluenoses, roaring them on.

As the players line-up for the start of the game, they will take a look behind them and see a sea of Blue and White behind them. They will fight for every ball, jostle and scrap for every bit of possession and never give up. They will make history.

You Can Knock Us Down, But You'll Never...

...kill our spirit.

A week can change an awful lot. A week ago, this article would've been pessimistic, and this correspondent on a downer. Blues were close to the relegation zone, and looked a less than certain bet to reach the Carling Cup Final.

Where were you when Craig Gardner stole the show? Where were you when he hit the back of the net? Where were you when Blues completed one of the greatest turn-arounds in their recent history? Where were you when spirit, true grit, guts, determination and passion won the day? Where were you when Blues booked their first return to Wembley since the mid-50's?

Finally on our way?

It has been a long time coming, but finally it clicked. Birmingham City strikers did what they are paid to do, and the club reaped the rewards. Into the next round of the FA Cup and marching on after their biggest result of the season.

Hleb told he must fight for place

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has revealed Alexander Hleb felt embarrassed by his omission for the victory over Chelsea.

Former Arsenal midfielder Hleb, on loan from Barcelona, has struggled to make an impact at Birmingham so far as he has yet to reach full fitness, and he was dropped for the recent 1-0 victory against the Blues.

A Bit of Consistency? Please?

Blues and Villa played out a dull draw in the first Second City derby of the season, but if the national media had their way, you wouldn't have known that the two sides had even played each other. It was akin to the media blackout you'd expect in a foreign land, as every major national sport outlet refused to cover the event...maybe because it was too "small" for them.

Something that most definitely isn't "small" is the draw for the Carling Cup Quarter-Final, which has pitted Blues against their biggest rivals. At home. Under floodlights. Simply awesome.

However, a week is a long time in football, and now we stand facing the prospect of Blues falling into the relegation zone, after two terrible performances in a row. Where do we go from here?

He's in Good Nik

Tell you what, he's finally made his mark. The giant Serbian has been awarded two starts in two games, and he has repaid the faith put in him by McLeish, scoring two goals.
The team have put in two good performances and suddely everything looks a lot better. The performance at the Emirates deserved more, and the free-flowing victory over Blackpool gave us just a glimpse of Alex McLeish's side's true potential.
There is a half-decent team there, you've just got to look...
