Javi Martinez is probably, more-likely-than-not, coming to Munich early next week. With all the reports and counter-reports, I'll try to sort you out.

Mir ham koa Angst vor Bayern

SSV Jahn Regensburg and FC Bayern Muenchen are the last two teams to match up in this first round of DFB-Pokal matches. There have been a surprising amount of upsets thus far: Newly promoted Bundesliga squad (and Bayern's opening opponents next weekend) SpVgg Greuther Fuerth were taken down 2-0 by third-division Kickers Offenbach. Thomas Rathgeber (28th min., penalty) and Lars Bender (90+ min, and no, not that one) completed the scoring for OFC.

DFB Super-Pokal

If this DFB Super-Pokal (or DFL-Supercup) were comprised of the opponents it's supposed to have, Dortmund would be playing themselves. Alas, Bayern Munich were the Bundesliga (and everything else) runners-up last season, so it's time, once again, to trot out this new / old rivalry. Last time Bayern featured in this match, in 2010, they beat Schalke 2-0. And the last time the Bavarians met up with Borussia Dortmund here in 2008, they lost 2-1.

Sadly, this is the last year that this cup will be called the "LIGA total!". Sky Deutschland AG outbid Deutsche Telekom in June for the broadcast rights. Stock up on those white / infrared away kits while you can, as we won't see the pretty T-com pink again!

Two friendlies and a fracture

With two friendlies in two days, the upcoming LIGA total! cup this weekend and an injury to another defender, I figured it was high time for my summer break to be over. So, I've dusted off the trusty laptop, unlocked my footie lexicon and gave my fingers a little stretch. I'm back for another season of Bayern Munich!

The final difference

It has taken me a couple of days to try and get my head around our Champions League loss to Chelsea. I've been glum, bitter and utterly sad. I haven't had any words. And, for someone as verbose as I am? That's (not) saying a lot.

The Final before the Final

The first of two consecutive legendary Saturdays for Bayern Munich pits them against Borussia Dortmund in the DFB Pokal final. Two versus One. The best defense and second-best offense against the best offense and third-best defense. The glamor club and the working man's club. The team that everyone loves to hate and the team that everyone loves to love. It's the biggest ticket in Germany right now- barring one, and although Berlin's Olympiastadion holds over 77,000 people, the DFB could have sold a few million for this one.

Go on, ladies!

This blog is not about Bayern Munich. It is, however, about football and a woman's place in this most beautiful of games. On Monday, Simon Borg, a writer for MLSSoccer.com and panelist for ExtraTime- MLS' official podcast- prefaced a sexist, ignorant rant by saying, "It's going to be a little unpopular to say this..."

Butt, Dante, DvB, Robben

Saturday afternoon saw Bayern Munich in better shape than I was after our respective trips to Madrid. And while it wasn't the most organized or exciting 90 minutes of football witnessed this season, it was a lovely way to send off Hans-Joerg Butt. Retiring from competition after these next three matches, Butt managed a clean sheet in front of a full house at the Allianz.

11:21 PM

11:21 PM - Estadio Bernabeu. Bastian Schweinsteiger sends Iker Casillas the wrong way, and sends Bayern Munich home to the Champions League final. And I promptly burst in to tears.

Even now, back in Florida, sitting in front of my laptop, I can't quite believe it's happened. Although I was certainly feeling confident - enough to travel to Madrid - the reality of it all has not quite sunk in. We are going to the final! It still seems like a dream. Wow. Wow. Wow.

Reunited

"There's one perfect fit / And, sugar, this one is it / We both are so excited / Cause we're reunited, hey hey" - "Reunited" by Peaches & Herb.

The fist-bump between Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery after the Frenchman scored the match winner against Werder Bremen on Saturday had me singing that seminal 70's anthem. The two mercurial wingers had gotten in to a half-time-locker-room bust-up over a free kick during the first leg of the Champions League semi-final. After the match, Arjen sported a mini-shiner while the battle news slowly, but inexorably, leaked out. And then the pundits began: "Arjen looks for move away from Munich", "Robben's future in doubt", and other headlines I'm paraphrasing here. Franck received a 50,000 Euro fine. And then Juventus put a paltry offer on the table which Arjen politely declined.

It's only an insignificant football match...

So, now that we've got that pesky "we can win the Bundesliga" attitude out of the way, we can concentrate on prettier trophies. Besides, who wants that big old ugly plate you can't drink beer out of, when you can have two massively-sized vessels to imbibe from? To me, it's a no-brainer. Duh. Oh, wait. I'm supposed to be serious because this is a VERY. BIG. MATCH. However, this season, when I try to be serious, things go awry for Bayern Munich, so I will try a different tack and see where that gets die Roten.

Not so clutch

When asked by a reporter if his team had been postionally out-played, Scottish football manager Gordon Strachan succintly replied, "Yes, we were outplayed in certain parts of the field today, the big green area of it". My purpose for injecting a bit of humor in to what was a dark day for legions of Bayern Munich supporters around the world is simple: Borussia Dortmund played better football than we did.
