“Berlin, Berlin! Wir fahren nach Berlin!” It’s the chant that was sung by the Bayern faithful after Arjen Robben’s brilliant extra-time goal against Schalke 04, back in March, that propelled die Roten to this DFB Pokal final match against Werder Bremen.

Bayern lifted the Meisterschale a week ago, in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, garnering their gazillionth Bundesliga title--- well, OK, their 22nd--- and return to Berlin to lay claim to their second piece of hardware in so many weeks. And after being so reticent before winning the domestic title, the players have started to embrace the chances of a historic treble.

“We don’t want to stop at one trophy. We want the lot,” says Ivica Olic.

Not so fast, my Croatian friend… There’s that “little” matter of die Gruen-Wiessen to deal with…

Werder, second, only to Bayern, in DFB titles (6 to our 14), are current holders of the cup. And, also, they don’t suck. Just a smidge behind us in offensive categories over the Bundesliga season, and this, their only chance at a trophy, Werder Bremen will be playing all-out football.

With a draw and a win against Bremen this season, it would seem that the Bavarians have a slight edge. However, facing rising stars, Marko Marin and Mesut Oezil; veteran, Torsten Frings; international keeper, Tim Wiese and ex-Bayern player, Claudio Pizarro, Bayern will have to focus completely on this match. And as luck would have it, we’ve--- so far--- been able to do just that this season.

Inter who?

The only prediction I’ll make is the starting 11: Butt / Lahm, Demichelis, Badstuber, Contento / van Bommel, Schweinsteiger, Robben, Ribery / Mueller, Olic.

Oh, and I’ll definitely predict a beer shower. Just hoping it’s over our heads!

Auf geht’s Bayern!

Susie -

Servus!

Although the really big game isn't until next weekend, I think the Pokal is equally as important. As you have duly noted, Werder Bremen is not a team to be shrugged off. Furthermore, I think it is essential for Bayern to keep up their winning ways this weekend in light of the task set before them in Madrid next Saturday. This game is not only for a cup, but it is also very important for morale and form.

I'm wondering if Wiese is going to play in light of his injury; I know he will be missing the world cup. Frings is also a tremendous midfielder and must be a force to be reckoned with. I am hoping that Bayern will take advantage of their attacking midfielders and find Robben early on down the wing. The treble has been elusive indeed for German sides but I will keep on hoping! Enjoy the match today - I know I will! Mein Herz schlägt bayrisch!

Don't worry Susie.. We'll be one having the champagne bath..

But the game may go to extra time (even spot kicks) i think...

Rooting for Bayern, but looking forward for Özil and Marin too...

My dream scorecard:
Bayern 3 ( Schweini, Gomez, Ribery) : 2 Bremen ( Özil, Mertesacker ).. Lol

congrats Susie! Well done boys, 2 down 1 to go. Btw, is there any chance for Jorg Butt to become Germany #1 at SA2010? I still prefer Neuer, though.

Great article...as Van Bommel recently said, "We will be almost unbeatable with Robben and Ribery playing together"...can't wait to see it happen this spring...Bayern for the treble!!!!

Bill-

The only thing better than a Bayern treble would be an England - Germany final in South Africa. :)
