Is it bad of me to say the happiest I was during the Fiorentina / Bayern second leg was at 54 minutes? You know, when Gilardino, off-sides, back-heeled to Jovetic to score from ten yards out? Although it wasn’t a glaring two meters off-sides, like the Klose goal in the first leg; it was off-sides, none-the-less. Now, the La Viola faithful couldn’t complain about an unfair advantage.
“It is a shame that a goal that was [sic] awarded when a player was two meters offside”, Fiorentina coach Prandelli said, “It is very sad to go out like that.”
Uh huh.
The frightful conditions in Tuscany - Sleet! Soggy pitch! Wind tunnel! - conspired against the men from Munich in the first half; contributing to, what I can only call, “the yips” by van Buyten and Badstuber; who looked unable to clear anything. Goal kicks, by Butt, sailed harmlessly up in the air, hopelessly off-target. And newcomer, Alaba, doing what he could against Marchionni, nevertheless gave up several important crosses.
Down 0 - 1 after the break, despite a few scoring chances for Bayern, things would get a bit worse before they got better. The goal, at 54 minutes, by Jovetic, put Fiorentina up by two; meaning Bayern would have to score once to put the match in extra time. Prayers were answered 6 minutes later, as a triple-covered Ribery footed a perfect pass to van Bommel, who promptly scored from the edge of the box.
Jovetic would score the second of his brace just 4 minutes after that, shooting between Butt’s legs and bringing the score to 3-1. The celebration that ensued by Fiorentina fans and squad, alike, had me thinking of a certain Champions League match-that-shall-not-be-named in ‘99. A premature… errrr… celebration, anyone?
One minute later, Arjen Robben proved me right, unleashing a rocket from 30 yards out.
So, we are through to the last 8 on away goals… Not exactly in the manner I had, or most people had, predicted. But, through anyway. Schweini, picking up his third yellow, will be sorely missed on the first leg of the next round. (I’m hoping the second leg is in Munich, as I’m going over for the match.) And hopefully, Mario Gomez will be fit enough to contribute by the end of the month. For Bayern has shown, this season, despite the brilliance of Robben and Ribery, that winning is a team effort... And we need our whole team to do it.

Author's note:
I'm gonna back-track next and go over the Koeln and friendly matches. I've been brutally ill as of late--- walking pneumonia--- and had been doing nothing but sleeping and working. :)

to be honest, seria a and fiorentina got cheated in the first leg. The red card which should have been a yellow, the offsides goal, the klose tackle which should have gotten him sent off. All these things brought fiorentina down, not bayern. Dont get me wrong, props to bayern for scoring two away goals but they would have not gotten through if the last goal from the first leg did not count

To be honest, if neither off-sides goal had counted, Bayern would still be through.

Bayern did not cheat anyone. The unreliability of referees paired with the asinine refusal to adopt a system of video review are the true villains. I would like for someone to find me a striker who possesses the merit to turn down a chance to put a game-winning shot into the back of the net due to an offside that was not flagged. It was up to the referee to make the call, not Miro Klose.
I think Louis van Gaal speaks for the vast majority of us when his post-match comments focused on the necessity of video replay. One must remember, these so-called ‘thieving Bavarians’ were victims of the same sort of travesty during a group stage match against Bordeaux this year and again against Fiorentina. Until there is video replay, everyone runs the risk of becoming a victim. Just ask the Irish.
Florenz Fans, hör auf zu jammern! Bayern vor, noch ein Tor!!!!!!

Am I alone in hoping we draw Lyon in the quarter-finals? The team that beats them has gone on to hoist the trophy in recent years. In addition, I would surely love to avoid any of the English teams for at least one more round.
Also, I have some reservations about our glorious goal-keeper Butt. He seems to have made some severe mistakes in goal for us lately, although our decimated back-line has not made things any easier for him.
Anyway, Onward and Upward!

It is totally disingenuous to say Fiorentina would have gone through if Bayern hadn't scored an offside goal after Fiorentina scored an offside goal. Whoever says that doesn't have a fair bone in their body.
