Is it unreasonable to be giddy ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League match against Fiorentina at the Allianz Arena? Signs would seem to point to “no”. After all, the last time we faced an Italian side, we just happened to demolish Juventus 4-1; which brought us clear to this stage in the competition.

Seventy-odd days ago, Fiorentina beat Liverpool 2-1, storming through the group stages on 15 points; while Bayern Munich limped through (with the exception of the awesomeness of the last match) their group. Since then, the fortunes of La Viola and die Roten have wildly diverged.

Mein Verein has come storming back (!) in to all three competitions with 12 wins in a row (!!!), while Fiorentina have lost their last five, including their last four away, dropping to the 11th spot in the Serie A standings.

Bayern are fielding an impressive full-strength squad. And, the men from Florence? Errr… not so much. Mutu is serving a drug suspension. Gamberini’s out with a dislocated shoulder. Zanetti will not feature in the line-up, either.

Arjen Robben and I would be happy with a 6-0 victory in Munich. However, we’ve been a bit dodgy in defence lately as the matches against Borussia Dortmund and Greuther Furth have shown. If we tighten up a bit in the back, is it possible to deliver a Sporting Lisbon-style beat down?

I sincerely hope so. As always, auf geht’s Bayern!

I really like these reports.. its just similar to what people talk .. Great work .. Keep on .. I hope its a 6-0 but i guess our defence wont be that good.. 5-1 would be great and its very possible !

The team is saying all the right things about being wary of Fiorentina, but you can tell they are brimming with confidence. I hope Bayern come out a little stronger than they have lately and don't have to play from behind. Hopefully they will still keep getting the breaks. I like them to win on three or four goals to one, with Robben and Ribery performing magic along the sidelines.

Alper!

Wie geht's?

Personally, I'm going for 4-0 or 4-1.

Mohammad--- Thanks for the lovely compliments!

Brad--- I'm right there with you. :)

Hello Susie, I have to say Bayern has been fortunate enough to encounter Fiorentina at their worst form of the season. Being the Milan correspondent I've also watched plenty of Fiorentina throughout the year. Right now they are in shambles. The fate of their two best center backs: one sold, one injured, Mutu is somewhere snorting cocaine, and their best winger is out for the rest of the year.

Hey, Matteo!

I agree that we're fortunate they're in shambles. :) I've always been the type of fan who relishes a butt-kicking. I'm too nervous watching close matches.

I was hoping for a better result for you...

Excellent post.. I have to agree I think Bayern will def come out victorious (Fiorentina are not looking so good with their recent loses, off-the field issue and injuries they are definitely not the favorite) I predict a goal from Miroslav Klose on his comeback !!! let’s say 2-0 to Bayern (let’s hope for Bayern that Fiorentina don’t get a sneaky goal)
Nany :o)

i hope ribery and robben tear them apart like last years sporting CMON BAYERN CMON BAYERN

Hey Susie, nice article once again.. 6-0 and a Soprting style beat down are a bit far fetched even for a Bayern die hard like me :)

Fiorentina might be in shambles, but they are a good side and have a clever coach in Prandelli.. They know that Bayern are, on form, the best team in the world right now and they themselves are having a not so good second half of the campaign.. They are going to park the bus in their own half and try to limit the damage to its minimum..

Having said that, i hope Bayern do win 3-0/4-1 and kill of the tie at the Allianz Arena.. and Schweini to score a screamer :) GO BAYERN!!!

Great post! I agree with you and GO BAYERN MÜNCHEN!!!!

2-1 to Bayern (like i said on my post) I should of put money on the game and Klose scored the winner… (like i predicted)

Susie you know nothing about soccer.

Posted by Gromp on 02/17/2010

Klose? Oh, come on, the goal should be awarded to Ovrebo.

wow all this bayern fans were too confident.6-0??..4-0 wad a farce..the could only beat 2-1 with the ref's help

Posted by Dantata99 on 02/17/2010

look @ ur dirty mouths 6-0, 6-1, 4-0, 4-1, 5-1.. ehn tell me what happened?? FOOLZ..
its not klose's, its Ovrebo's and Platini's..!
Peace

LOL. Mighty Bayern can only muster a 2-1 win over a depleted and out of form Violla. Funny eh?

Posted by Brian on 02/18/2010

A win is a win is a win is a win.

Posted by Susie on 02/19/2010

Nany... you were mostly right! :)

John--- There are a few hundred (thousand, perhaps) that would beg to differ. However, you're entitled to your opinion. And how did you form said opinion? Just curious...

Posted by Susie on 02/19/2010

Gromp--- I don't disagree.

I agree with it being credited to the ref... but, Platini?! Why?\

Bayern Noobie--- It's not really that funny if you're a Bayern fan.

What is wrong with Gomez? He has stopped running and fighting like he used to- though he does it better in Bayern than he did in Stuttgart. The guy needs 60 mins and 10 chances to score a goal! Van Gaal should swap Gomez with Klose for the same mins and see what happens. And him not scoring is turning him into a solo-stingy-type of a player!

susie--ignore those fools who post here. nobody cares about them.

it's hard to feel too bad about bayern, what with the 16 game unbeaten streak and all, but there are some worrying signs. gomez scores 1/15 opportunities he gets every game. crappy percentage.

micho makes one critical error every game, and we can't seem to keep clean sheets. oy vey.

yes, we were bound to end the winning steak, but yesterday we looked tired and totally disinterested. there was way too much languid play before we scored and even after it was 1-1. that is troubling. it has been a couple weeks since we looked really dynamic (ironically, when franck came back we started to look a little less decisive on the pitch...) and this was the first time in a while we actually lost points for it. luckily the results went our way today, and leverkusen and schalke both slipped up when we did, but still, we need to show URGENCY. The next ten days will show our true character, hopefully.

A win is a win. That's true. Football is like that, the ref is going to make mistakes and sometimes it is going to be against you and sometimes in your favor. Barcelona got 3 giantic favors last season by the same ref and went on winning the CL but nobody can say they didn't deserve it. Bayern got a favor by the ref but based on possesion, shots on goal etc they deserved to win that game. This is CL, in a normal game you can't blase any team 6-0, with the exception of the win last year. Look at the mighty Barca, barely a 1-1 against Stuttgart.
