Friday found us back on top of the Bundesliga table, after a convincing 2-0 win over TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Yeah, I know, it was only for a day… but, still… It’s been coming on two years since we’ve occupied the 1. Platz for any length of time. (We spent one day on top of the table last season as well.)
Martin Demichelis may have alleviated his “Cry for me, Argentina” woes a bit by scoring the opener after a poor defensive clearance. To me, though, the stars of the day were Bastian Schweinstieger and Arjen Robben. When they’re running on all cylinders, which they were--- especially in the second half--- they give opposing teams fits, creating confusion and lots of looks.
I’m so happy to say that Miroslav Klose (finally!) scored his opener for the season. It had been a full nine months since he last scored for die Roten. I hope, for him, this is a start to a brilliant second half. He’s always seemed, to me, to be a man of integrity--- calmly going about his business, even when things haven’t gone his way. The man just personifies class.
This week, in training, gave us a little 5 on 5 altercation between Phillip Lahm and Arjen Robben. (Don’t worry, they’re buddies again.) And Franck Ribery’s back on the pitch, full-time, expected to make the match day squad against Werder Bremen on Saturday. Finally. It will be interesting to see how the dynamics of the team change once he’s back.
I, however, will not be able to see Saturday’s match, as I will be in mid-flight to LaLa land. That is, unless Virgin America carries Gol TV. (And,can I tell you how excited I’d be?!) So, if any one of you would like to take a stab at writing a match review, show me up, or whatever--- Get in touch with me: susie.schaaf@gmail.com.

Jetblue definitely has Gol TV - when considering future flights; sometimes they even carry Setanta! one of many reasons i always flight jetblue :)
The veterans from Bayern should have a strong 2nd half season - a team's depth always shows its true colors when teams are playing 2 times a week between domestic and champion's league competitions. As long as Rob-bery can stay healthy and play in most of the games going forward, everything else will fall into place.
the youngsters will continue to be valuable and now have the confidence and can be relied upon in big game situations...

Chris---
I'm afraid Mueller will sit when Ribery gets back on the pitch. It's a shame, but, really... he's the only choice. The kid has a ton of upside.

Robben and Ribery will never stay healthy together for a long period of time. Muller will have plently of chances to prove himself, if he hasn't proven himself already.
Rob-bery, give this horrible nickname up. Both guys are as soft as Rib-ben. But you probably can't figure out what that means anyway.

I think Mueller has a chance to start this weekend. I dont think Van Gaal will start Ribery. Also, Mueller is still in the running for the World Cup. Loew just called him in for a fitness test. Despite Ribery's return, he will still get plenty of playing time in the Ruckrunde.
Robben did look very strong against 1899, he set up Gomez a bunch of times. It will be exciting to see both Robben and Ribery play consistently, IF they can stay healthy.

One more thing can be better: Super Mario needs to bury his chances. As a striker, he needs to have better finish/chance ratio. Germany needs him to be better in that category as well. But it's been a problem for a while...

First, Mario seriously can't afford to miss half a dozen open nets a game--it will eventually hurt Bayern, and it certainly hurts even more when Jogi L. is watching from the stands...
Second, I know he's coming back from long term injury, but Ribery looked extremely timid on the ball against Bremen. No speed, no aggression, no impact. I've never seen that from him, but I hope he figures things out again. And doesn't hurt himself again.
Third, HOW can you sit Müller? When we are playing twice a week, I think we'll need a rotation anyway (if van Gaal permits...) and between Mario/Olic/Müller/Robben/Ribery/[Klose] we should be able to satisfy everybody and keep fresh legs.
Fourth, Toni Kroos! We will see what Franck decides to do next year, but I can't help but like the idea of having an attacking midfield of Kroos/Schweini/Müller/Robben. For Germany too, for that matter.
