Two games against the same side in less than a week. Five unanswered goals. That can't do you any harm when looking for a repeat of the 'sextuple,' right?
Wrong, as it turns out. Barcelona went out of the Copa del Rey last Wednesday despite a 1-0 win against Sevilla, courtesy of the away goals rule and a previous loss to the Andalusians at home. Thus, when the Southerners pitched up on Saturday night, there was going to be hell to pay.
Pep Guardiola didn't want to mention the word 'revenge,' but it was clear that Barça were on a mission to regain face and spurred on by Real Madrid's loss to Athletic Bilbao shortly before kick off. Despite this, however, it still took them until the second half to break the deadlock courtesy of an Escudé own goal.
Leo Messi's 100th and 101st goals for the club rounded off the night, but not before substitute Pedro had latched onto Xavi's precision through-ball for the second. This leaves Guardiola with a problem; a nice problem, but a dilemna all the same.
Messi is undroppable when fit. The world's best player and already with 23 goals in all competitions. Ditto, to an extent, 2009 signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Barça are loathe to use the Swede in route one play, but Ibra is a useful target man who sometimes stubbornly refuses to play as such. Still, he is a big game player who offers something different.
That leaves Henry, Bojan and Pedro. Henry has lost the pace of his Arsenal days and is often slightly out of tune with Ibrahimovic's runs into the box, but is the biggest name of the trio. Bojan provided three assists against Tenerife and was then dropped, as questions still reain about his physical presence and interplay.
Pedro, perversely, should not even get a sniff at a starting spot on skill alone, but has the good fortune and ability to put the ball into the net when set up that have muscled him into contention. Whilst injuries keep away from Barça -and the team continue top of the league- the starting trio from Sunday is unlikely to change.

Now that Barcelona are out of the Copa del Rey, what are your thoughts about player rotation. Last season right into this one, it seemed like the games were endless. Now there are almost too few, considering the wealth of talent that needs playing time. Pep is not one to tolerate complaints about minutes, nor are Barca players prone to doing so, but the Copa was a very effective way to keep all the youngsters and subs happy AND developing nicely. If you are Pep, what do you do about the Henry-Bojan-Pedro issue? Aside from putting his best team out there, he has to consider the future right? If Henry leaves come May and Bojan and Pedro have even less exprience with Zlatan than he did, the left wing could be rendered even less effective. Understandably if this is Barca's only problem they don't have it too rough, but I could see this being a tricky spot next year if he doesn't keep it in mind now. Keep up the good work.

On current form, Henry hasnt been showing as much skill as Pedro or Bojan. Right now Bojan is probably the most skillful in terms of sheer talent, but his skills are more like a centreforward. Pedro is our best left-winger, and he's a lot more skillful that you give him credit for, actually, even though nowhere near Ibra or Messi. Remember he tore Maicon to shreds in the CL game? And his finishing is amazing, 37% of all his shots have been goals in all competitions this season. Not to mention the team plays best when he's on the left-wing. While Bojan is the biggest prospect from the youth team for me, his style is more like a CF than a winger, while Pedro is a quintessential winger- not the amazing ball control of Messi or Iniesta, but the pace, tricks, running at defenders, passing and finishing of a typical 'winger' winger, which Barcelona's system actually usually dusnt have (Henry and Messi are all more support strikers than wingers), but he fits in the team perfect.

So this is why we paid over 40 million Euro and traded one of the best pure strikers in the world...for Ibra? His last 3 games have been very poor performance. This is something that is going to haunt Pep...Ibra does not show up for important games.

I find it interesting that you call Ibra a big game player. For the entirity of his career at Ajax, Juve, Inter, and Sweden, he has been known as a big game flop. Funny what a substitute goal in the biggest derby on earth can do. As for the issue at hand, Henry deserves the starting job. He may have lost a bit, and his interplay with Ibra is lacking, but his work with Messi is thrilling. How often do we see Messi cut in from the right, pass to Henry in the middle, who deftly plays a quick ball to spring Messi past the last line of defense? At least 4-5 times a match, and it works quite often. That being said, Pedro certainly earned some time and should get it. Bojan would be the last to see the pitch, as he is immensely selfish with the ball, routinely passing up great passes for poor shots, or holding the ball a beat to long in an effort to look for goal when he could be passing to the best player on the planet. Until he plays more like a Spaniard and less like a Slav, he sits.

Henry lack of fitness should make less playing time for him. Barca should rotate Bojan and Pedro in every game to keep their spirit high.Jeffren also should start for a less crucial game.
Messi lost will disrupt Barca system. So if he's injured, then Bojan shouldn't have much problem to slot in.
But somehow we still miss Eto'o.

Ibra - a big game player? Do you remember the champions league from the past 2-3 seasons plus the dry patch of 2+ years for Sweden?
