I believe that FIFA should count players' performances in their countries' selections and not only in their teams. If that happens, Xavi Hernandez should be the FIFA best player of the year, not Messi. He is the best midfielder actually, not only in Spain, but in the world. He is a great defender in the middle and creates a lot of opportunities. Indeed, he was the leader of passing goals in The Liga (Spain) with 20; leader of passing goals among all the leagues of Europe; leader in passing goals in the Champions and the Eurocup; he was also the best player in the Eurocup. Also, he is the leader of the middle field in Barcelona, the best team in the world actually. If FIFA prefers not only the best forward with great habilities, but the most complete pleayer, it must be Xavi.

About
Francesc Tomas Hola! I am Francesc Tomas. Barcelona is my passion and home-town team. I consider myself lucky to have regularly attended matches at the Camp Nou since the early 1980s. My cousin played for the Barça youth academy, sharing the team with Don Andres Iniesta, which gave me a clear inside view of how our club works behind the scenes. I am also the founder, editor and columnist at Barcablog.com.
