Before being all doom and gloom, let’s start with the positives from last night. We ended the losing streak in the league. Obviously we’d like to have won, but given our recent form we have to be slightly relieved not to have lost. We also created a lot of chances. Particularly against Fulham and Swansea, that wasn’t happening. However, again we’d like to have converted at least one of those.
There were other positives, with Wojciech Szczesny looking solid again. By his own admission, he’s not been at his best recently, but he did well to spread himself when N’Gog was through in the first half, and his save at the feet of Mark Davies late on was vital. We’ve conceded stupid goals at Bolton numerous times before so a clean sheet was very welcome. That was aided by the return of Bacary Sagna who gives our back line a much more balanced look.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain impressed again with some more direct running. He has been a real breath of fresh air in a terrible run of form, and gives us real hope not just in the long term, but for the rest of the season. On current form, when Gervinho returns from the African Cup of Nations I’d like to see the Ox on the right and Gervinho on the left. I think Theo Walcott needs a reality check to knuckle down and improve. Oxlade-Chamberlain can easily replace him for Arsenal and England.
As for other positives, well Harry Redknapp is still in court. That’s about it.
When we suffer the odd poor result, I’m usually someone who immediately looks at the bigger picture for some perspective. However 0-0 at Bolton isn’t just an odd poor result. We’ve claimed one point from a possible 12 in the league. By anyone’s standards, that is terrible and arguably relegation form. The bigger picture from after this result doesn’t make it look like a blip.
As we saw on Sunday, football matches can be won by fine margins. Had Hutton not hoofed the ball at Walcott so as it bounced back in, might we have gone out of the FA Cup? Would we be moaning as much has Robin van Persie’s wonderful attempted chip been two inches lower and not hit the bar? It’s not a coincidence that successful teams make sure those fine margins go in their favour. There is an element of luck, but if a team just considered themselves unlucky, they’d get nowhere.
It wasn’t unlucky that Theo Walcott didn’t convert a one-on-one chance in the first half. On some occasions like that, you can mark it down as a good save. This wasn’t one of those occasions. Adam Bogdan was stationary, and any good striker should be able to run round the goalkeeper or shoot past him. Walcott seemed to aim to knock it through Bogdan’s legs, choosing the smallest target to aim for. I once read an interview with Dennis Bergkamp where he said the most space when one-on-one is usually above the goalkeeper, hence why he favoured the chip. Why aim for the smallest space underneath the keeper?
I’m not picking on Walcott as there were other similar incidents where small moments that could be viewed as just a bit of bad luck should have actually been avoided by some better, more decisive play. We saw individual players taking responsibility on Sunday, unfortunately some couldn’t do the same on Wednesday. If we’re going to get ourselves close to getting back in the Champions League, that has to be done. That has to come from the manager as well. It’s all very well saying that the players need to take responsibility, but is the manager giving them enough advice on what to do in these tight situations? As fans, we can never fully know the answers to those sort of questions, and the only way we can offer an answer is by watching what we see on the pitch, and at the moment, the on field evidence we’ve got isn’t positive.
If we don’t beat Blackburn on Saturday, I’ll struggle to see how we can turn the season around. Without looking at how far clubs ahead of us would be points-wise, the improvement throughout the whole club that would be needed will be massive. We won’t just be able to meander along on the same path we’re on at the moment. Change will be needed somewhere. I don’t want to suggest change at the top in the form of a different manager, because with the January transfer window having just shut, making such a big decision now would put a lot of pressure on any new man. However the team one pace behind us in the league, Sunderland, sacked their manager earlier in the season to avoid relegation, and now they’re eighth.
We’ve had bad runs of form before, but in the Wenger era there might not be one that turns out to be so costly. We’re embroiled in a full on battle with four other clubs for the final Champions League place, and at the moment we’re not scaring any of them. There has to be a more ruthless attitude from players and staff throughout the club to push us forward. The ‘Forward’ motto is looking embarrassing on the shirt this season as we clearly haven’t gone forward as a club. We’re sinking further below the top four and Wenger has to galvanize the squad otherwise he’ll have to deal with the consequences of this slide.
I’m desperate for Wenger and this group of players to be successful. We all are. I believe that their hearts and heads are in the right place, and that they’re doing everything they can to help Arsenal Football Club. But is what they’re doing working? Clearly not. We can’t make personnel changes on the field having wasted that opportunity in the transfer window, Eisfield may turn out to be a great player but he isn’t who we needed at the moment, changes have to come in terms of turning those minor moments in our favour. If we don’t change the small things, it could spiral towards wholesale changes in the summer. Some of those wholesale changes might be welcomed, others not.
It’s a worrying time to be a Gooner. There isn’t another manager in the world that I’d want to see succeed this season at Arsenal than Arsene Wenger, but if he doesn’t aid change, he’ll find himself replaced. If we make the top four from this position, I’d rate it as one of his best managerial achievements. He has to take a large slice of the blame for the team being in the position we are at the moment, but we can’t look back. For once, the motto on this seasons crest is appropriate. We have to look forward and stop the sinking ship.

My family and I are dieheart fan of Arsenal but they are all disappointed with the performance of the club since years. No trophy and all excellent players have left and the remaining team players are playing rather marginal. At time they play very well but facing two defeat against Man United is not digestable . I do not what strategy Arsene Wenger is adopting but it is time to give a boost and get the players in the right place. Van Persie also is looking forward to leave the club. I will probably add some more comments later on . Thanks

Sam, I total agree with your comment and I can sense the real frustration in you too. Here, I also want to add my few point of frustration as well :-
- Wenger is clearly not a tactically good enough manager, he might be good 10 years ago in the EPL, but manager in the EPL today are amongst the best, so he is clear not good enough judging of some of the decision he made time and time again on and off the field.
- It's clearly Wenger prefers to make changes in a match for the sake of mind control of the player rather than what the team needs to win tactically. I am puzzled by him keep taking off the OX in the last two matches, where clearly everyone can see that we need the OX to get on the ball more to make things happen for Arsenal. Why not take Ramsey or Walcott off ?
- Everyone can see we need a good striker to partner RVP up front, but Wenger is the only one feel we are ok. It certainly could have made some difference if we can have one coming off the bench against Bolton.

Sam, I agree with a lot of the points you made.
Arsenal really in big problem now, i dont think they can finish top four or win any trophy this season. The top management only care about $, they keep saying there is a fund for AW to spend, but in the end all rubbish! RVP definetly will leave this summer if situation is not improve. As a fan, we know how is RVP's feeling, he has spend many years in Arsenal but still get nothing, as a player he just want to win anything with the club, we all can see how he tried very hard to win the match for Arsenal,he need more support not only from fan, but more important is to bring more experience and skillful player. Arsenal need a change if really want to win something in future, AW are u listening?

sometimes things just dont work out, i actually didnt bother to watch the match, coz i no follow the FA cup and Champs league, Man, we need to focus on the present and try to win those cups, and forget about the league, its not a shame to be in the UEFA cup, 3 0f the clubs above us are playing in it! maybe we should just not panic and analyse everyt hing from an outsiders point ot view. Gunner for life!!!!!

Great commentary Sam! I always look forward to reading your analysis after matches because they put the right perspective on things.
I am not as positive as you are on the club management. I feel that Arsene Wenger should be fired. I know he has done some wonderful things for the club in the past but Wenger and his supporters are living on his past glories. We have gone 7 years without winning anything and Wenger and the club management don't seem to be too perturbed about it. I don't thing they mind if we don't win anything for the next seven years as long as we remain in the top four and the club shows a profit every year.
We need to fire Wenger and the whole board of directors. There is no reason why we should be paying the highest ticket prices in the league and have to put up with the current state the team is in. We need to bring in someone like Mourinho who can get this team back to winning ways and who knows how to win. I have never felt so frustrated being a Gooner.

I really hope your right about the Ox replacing Theo when Gerviniho come back but knowing Wenger I think he'll keep Theo in the first team just to insure he signs his new contract.
Theo is such an amazing player when he is used as a substitute, there is no attacker tired defenders would hate to come up against more, because his game is so dependent on his pace but unfortunately it makes him pretty one dimensional and if you know what to expect from the start and can prepare its easy to make life difficult for him.
He defiantly needs a reality check though and Wenger and Arsenal should run the risk, not many English players like going to foreign clubs and on current form none of the top English clubs would have him.

Spot on as usual. Have got nothing to add. Shouldnt the title be that 'familiar' sinking feeling?
Sam Limbert: Thanks for the comment. It's an unfamiliar feeling as we're used to finishing in the top four and challenging at the top, and our run of form means we're miles away from that.
 |

Sam, the team is clearly not improving or going anywhere since some years back. We have become the eternal second place. Now, we are not reaching even second place and I am deeply concerned that fans expectations are always getting lower. If we finish 4th do you think AW should stay? And what is your opinion on the Arsenal model?
I think things should change. I really hope we don't win anything this year so it can serve as a catalyst and regain our stile and place. I am afraid that if we finish 4th everybody will accommodate to that new standard because that seems to be the tendency.
Sam Limbert: Thanks for your comment. I think Wenger might go if we don't finish fourth, it will be the biggest disappointment of his time at Arsenal if we don't make it. I've always liked the Arsenal model in the way we're not reliant on one major investor, however I think the people that are in place could be doing more to help the team.

So disappointed with the result. Arsenal had arguably one of their strongest teams of the whole season, and just couldn't find the net. Players need to be rested, because Feb. is big month with CL fixtures. Let's just pray someone can put the ball in the net in the coming weeks besides RVP or Arsenal is going to be in big trouble.

Sam,as always you speak truthfully as Gooner. We knew jack would not be back as expected maybe this whole season and yet we made no moves? In your analysis of Theo, I will go a step further. Right now at the same age, Ox is miles ahead of Theo in skill and basic field awareness and football IQ is definitely not even a race. Every player on this squad has to have their place on the starting XI not be guaranteed , especially Theo. The same goes for Ramsey now. maybe yesterday would have been a good time to place Arshavin in Ramsey's ACM role to see if he really is out of position. the fact that we haven't sold him in this window baffles me as well since he has ZERO confidence now and is clearly a broken player. If wenger gets us to fourth, this will be his greatest managing job. I thought last year SAF did his best job of managing to win the title as this was clearly one of his weakest teams ever.

Well I'm pretty sure we will beat Blackburn. So chill out. If you love Arsenal, stop worrying. We will be fine.

Well written, Sam. Pessimism is never the rule of the day for you, so to hear you say 'worrying' really must mean that matters have deteriorated.
Do you think that winning the FA Cup this year while failing to qualify for Champions League soccer next will be an "acceptable" outcome? Do you say that RVP will leave for certain should we fail to do either?
Sam Limbert: Thanks for your comment. Honestly, I'd love to win the FA Cup, but I don't think it'll fully make up for missing out on the top four. I wouldn't be surprised if RvP went if we fail to make the top four, even if we win the FA Cup.

Sam, I finally see that some of your optimism has worn off. For you to even leave the possiblity open of changing the manager is monumental. For the life of me I don't understand the blind love for any manager. Don't get me wrong, I think Wenger is a top manager, but he is, frankly put, stale. He needs a change. He is his team. He has no one challenging him or his authority (much like Walcott and his permanent standing in the starting XI)-I agree it's time to start Chamberlain in Walcott's spot; he won't change tactics- the team can't find news ways of breaking down an opponent on the pitch; and his team has no stomach for the fight, much like Wenger's non confrontational personality.
We need to part ways, for the sanity of fans and Wenger.
The club will survive and I will be a fan, but the middle of the road results makes me not so proud of the club right now.

There are positive from individual performance's but as a club Arsenal are doing what they have done for a few years a good pre -christmas and a poor post one the only differance they have not built up enough points to carry them through. The cup is the only competition they could win I think CL and forth place is now beyond them they have not finished above Chelsea since they changed owner's and spent a fortune cannot see them doing it this time either. The win against Chelsea blinded us to how good this team really is at this time they are not top four the problems they had at the beging of the season are stilll there only Van Persie goals have papered over the cracks with them not signing any new players and Wilshere now in doubt it's hard to see them turning this around it is beging to look like Arsenal will spend some time as a middle of the table team.Looking like the 1960's team not the premier league winning teams.

I believe the title for this post is totally wrong. It should read: "The FAMILIAR sinking feeling". We have been given this feeling towards the end of last season to the current season. Players are not performing. Manager is stubborn and refuse to change and admit he is no longer good enough for AFC. I have been saying for quite a while that he should be sacked. Walcott whould be sold while we can get something out of him. Acyually, I do hope we do not make it to the Champ League. This may sound weird. But this is the only way for the board to make up their mind and be determind to sack the manager and clear the dressing room.

wow, strong article and strong comments.
i agree with stuckyk, it's important to point out that this was the strongest team we have fielded, subs included, in a long while, maybe all season.
the team has desire, but no INSPIRATION! no finishing! we have barely scored more than one goal since december! the chance to find an inspiring and menacing striker has passed. i hope that Gervinho can help pick up where we need and provide creativity and chances and finishing!
i agree, Ox to start and less Walcott. let theo come off the bench and push it, as someone mentioned.
early goals and confidence will help turn things around. but we have been lucky in our wins these last months, with slim margins, shaky finishing and unconvincing leads.
sadly, we are not feared anymore and the teams around us don't see us threatening. let's see what happens and try to regain our footing and establish ourselves again! come on gunners!!!

Sam,
What I find most frustrating is how the majority of fans seem to have simply accepted a lowering of standards for the club. We were a dominant force in English football from 1995-2005 and we are now all the sudden willing to accept finishing 4th! Frankly, I cannot picture us achieving this either! Also worrying is the current trajectory this club is on. I have seen our sides get progressively weaker season after season as the slipping of standards seems to have extended to those we let on the pitch!
There are a number of players (I won't mention names) that would not get a regular game at a mid-table side yet feature for us week in week out! Aside from RVP and Vermaelen I cannot imagine anyone from our current squad even challenging for a spot on the bench at the arsenal of old!
I still believe AW is a world class "coach" however I think our board lacks a few big personalities to bring him into line on the managerial side.

Arsenal`s ability to move the ball up the pitch and find the space inbetween the defense has looked suspect all season,so the lack of goals(aside from RVP, who is unbelievable) is telling of the poor play in the final third. I tink Arsenal will look much diferrent next year, though whether that is due to Wenger being gone or RVP taking his talent to Barca or someone like that. Arsenal needs a retooling. Bring in a prodigous crosser, and get back to dominating possesion in the middle of the pitch, like the old Arsenal side. Look at Man U as a example. Their offense is slightly one-dimensional, relying on crossing from Valencia, but it works better than relying on RVP for everything.
Remember. This could be worse. We could be fans of Villareal. (shudder)

Is it just me or did anyone notice that we don't seem to win any league games on Sundays or Mondays. FA Cup excluded. Check the fixture list and you will know.
We seem to rack up wins when we play on Saturdays!
It seems the team has a problem with pressure. If there are no expectations we win.
I think we will win both our Saturday games against Blackburn and Sunderland but the game against Tottenham will be dependant on what kind of result we are able to extract from AC Milan.

We were singing the praises of this team few months ago when they hurled themselves back up the table after a woeful start. Can we stop preachin doom and just hope for improvement again?

AW will not be sacked, even if Arsenal ended outside top 4 and did not win anything. Because he is the only manager that support Arsenal self sustainable model and actually can still stay top 4 every year. Any other manager that comes in will either break their model, or fail miserably with the wage structure and transfer budget available. If the model is broke, then we have to find a billionaire investor no doubt, else we will end up in receivership faster than a sinking titanic!
But i also believe AW will quit if Arsenal fails to stay in top 4. He is too proud and too stubborn, and I'm quite sure he will not be able to accept that fact. Staying in top 4 is his only excuse that he has been using for past 7 years, crushing that will leave him no place to hide and quitting will be his only choice. Just like Walcott, who needs a reality checks, this will be AW's reality check!
Lastly, i actually think his youth model is working, just that he needs to be a little bit more flexible!

Well said man! You got it spot on.
I read one of the comments here. I hate to say it but as an Arsenal fan i do agree, maybe not making the champions league will wake the management up. Finishing 4th will just make it ok to keep going on like this - but it is not acceptable in the long run.
I'm tired of being in a bad mood from Arsenal's performance. I'm tired of seeing Walcott's predictable play. I'm tired of reading Wenger's post match commentaries. It's the same story over and over again.
What I've seen from last few seasons
a) Key players are sold. No players of similar caliber are brought in.
b) Our key defenders get injured or suspended. This results in us being very weak at the back. I remember CL a few years ago when we got hammered by MU. It was the same story then, it was the same story last year. It is the same story this year.
c) We can be leading a game and then a player gets stupidly sent off and we lose it in the last 5 minutes of the match

Wenger has lost the plot. He failed to make the transition in 2004/05 other clubs began to adopt the Arsenal way. As a pace-setter it is always to your advantage to be at least one step ahead. Unfortunately, Wenger got stuck in his formula and others successfully adopted it and overtook him. His policies - total reliance of cheap, raw, and untested youth talents - are at least 10 years out of date.

Soccer goes in cycles unless you are the best like barcelona and real madrid. Arsenal is no longer that team. Arsenal will make a run as the coach has a track record of success. As a fan, you are worried about finishing fourth to quality for the champions league. Hello? You are in the round of 16 in the champions league this year. No one mentions the upcoming game. It seems to me as fans you are doom and gloom. Arsenal is still left in two tournaments that Man city and man united are eliminated from.
Whether Arsenal wins a trophy or not, their games and style of play are interesting. If arsenal beat birmingham would that satisfy you negative fans? Arsenal does need to tinker with the roster as ramsey cannot finish and his passes are off. Oxlade chamberlin can beat players off the dribble, but can't shoot.
I said in my last post gerviho is a difference maker. Arsenal will be better once he is back. Arsenal beats villa and bolton, and a top team with gervinho.

Arsenal is bigger than Arsene Wenger and the board and its about time they were made aware of that, they are there for everything else but football and trophies, this is not a new scenario its been ongoing in different ways last seven years, its about time change is made, thank AW for past glories and then let him know its time to move on as he is past it, simple.

I follow the Arsenal, through thick and thin since 1952. So what if we have a bad season. I have seen much worse and yet I never give up - because when the Arsenal play, I support.(words of another blogger which I admire)
Those so call fans who wish bad things happened to the club so that they can see the manager sack are the most despicable lot. And don't tell me that classless loud-mouth Mourinho is better suited to lead my beloved club. Besides he will not come to the Arsenal for we do have a sugar daddy to fund him.
As for Van Persie, it's about time he pay back the club that keep faith with him for all those injury years. With another club, he would be sold long time ago.
I do not wear rosy tinted glasses and I notice our club has problems and the manager is not perfect. All the more reason why we should get behind the team - give them confidence to fight another day.
I love Arsenal, I really do. And you, Sam?
Sam Limbert: Thanks for your comment. Of course I love the Arsenal.

Does anyone else think we should consider selling Walcott? He's got a year and a bit left on his contract and I'm sure Wenger will push for a renewal, but I'm not sure that's a smart move. He's an English player with quite a few caps and is very well-known, so I reckon AW could sell him for far more than he's worth, and then invest in some better players.
As I mentioned to you previously, Sam, I think Wenger didn't buy a striker because he's waiting for Afobe to come up through the ranks. I can sympathise with that idealism but frankly he's wrong. QPR just bought Bobby Zamora - if Zamora was for sale why didn't we show an interest? He's not great, admittedly, but he's a damn sight better than Chamakh and Park, he's got Premier League experience and I think he would have been perfect playing second fiddle to RVP.
Like you I like Wenger, I like his style and I hope he regains his form. But if he doesn't then I think he's got to go.

What the Arsenal needs is someone whit character doing what Leonardo its doing in PSG. Someone who bring in the players that we need, and sold those who do noting for the club, whitout asking permision from the manager (and change pat rice for someone more convinced). AW is brilliant, i love him almoust unconditionally, he its great, its one of the most intelligent y talented coach int hte worl of futbol, but have to much power. The solucion for the club its not fired him, but reduce his power, and change the board' mentality. right now, our bigest enemy is lvpool, in the fa-cup, and for the fourth place.

Sam, I appreciate your candidness and willingness to consider the potential need for changes at the top. My question is whether replacing AW would even be enough? In short, is there a further hindrance for the Arsenal regaining consistent, first tier elite status at the board/ownership level? I'm no expert so I raise the issue in hopes of discussion from better informed supporters -- but I'm starting to credit David Dean with more and more of Arenal's previous recent success in light of AW's present floundering and slow and painful slide into 5-10th place commendable-mediocrity status. Is there any chance to get that central Asian shareholding businessman (Usman?) into a controlling percentage? He at least seems passionate and willing to spend $. It's been noted in comments and I agree from the evidence on display that the current board/ownership don't seem to care about trophies and success near as much as the fans. That lack of hunger at the top seems to flow right to the players.
Sam Limbert: Thanks for your comment. It's hard to know whether replacing Wenger would be enough. The way Arsenal conduct their business queitly, which is a good thing, means we can have no idea of the effect of those higher than Wenger. I think we have to assume that what is being done overall isn't working.

1)Win the FA and/or Top 4 or get rid of Wenger. Plenty of managers out there who would love to manage at Arsenal and can buy wisely and manage in the EPL better.
2) Sell Bendtner, Benayoun, Arshavin, Chamakh, and Squillaci. Make some room for top class players.
3)Don't write off Walcott. He's not first team material but can definitely provide spark off the bench with his speed and tenacity (unlike Arshavin).
4)Keep RvP at all costs. A great leader to build your team around. Lose him and watch your self become an Everton, Sunderland, Fulham, or Stoke wandering around in the middle/lower EPL table for years to come!

Posted by Nwabueze on 02/03/2012
Sam, we cannot play hide and seek in the transfer market and get away with profit making all the time. We need another talismanic finisher up front with RVP. No big team wastes such number of scoring chances as we do. Luckily, we have enjoyed tremendous fitnes of RVP, but big teams with our level of aspiration do not depend always on luck. If we fail to make it to Europe, we may lose key players who we cannot replace because of funds and because big players will not compromise UCL. We can guess what happens next.... Sinking in reality, not just a feeling. But all hope cannot be lost this early. We have space to bounce back to top 4 if we make the best of what we have alongside Mr. LUCK!

Well done again!I made predictions for next 10 Arsenal games and why Arsenal will be at 7th place this season in previous blog[MU-ARS].Now 9 to go.
AW said they will play like a final match for each next games until end of the season. That really made me laugh. This is how he said the last 8 games last season to win the league but ended at 4th.
Problem is-Arsenal don't have that huge fighting spirit for years. If we have-just 1 or 2 games. After that-no more.So I don't believe he said. Now I just accept luckily we will spot for UEFA Cup next season.Be realistic.
Defender again-very loose and at first half,Gog able to shoot at goal 3 times in 5 mins from just an overhead passing ball.Uurgh..Really pissed.
About Finishing goal-as I what i said before..we don't have that talent yet.Actually in this game,we were lucky and not Bolton.Ref at our side and the late penalty was not given definitely saved us.Chelsea also struggle like us and may lose their 4th spot to ambitious boosted Liverpool.

If its not broken dont try to fix it to satisfy your own ego or accomplishment, for crying out loud its proven that the youth system or the infamous i dont sign players on the wrong, yes the wrong side side of 30 is a failure and when you see somebody backtracking and going against their own idealism which they fiercely believed in you know they ve simply lost it, come on Gunners, last time i checked Henry, with all due respect is on the wrong side of 30 yet he was signed, changing goal posts now? Arsene Wenger is just a man and can therefore be replaced gentlemen, all that in Arsene we trust is way too outdated get real and do the needful, again Arsenal is bigger than just that for crying out loud!!

First of all Sam I would like to reiterate something I mentioned earlier in the season. When I first learned they were replacing the previous Arsenal correspondent I was concerned, but your writing has been really fantastic!
I have been a fan since the Bergkamp days so, like many Arsenal fans I guess, I am familiar seeing the team perform only illustriously.
The great form we got used to makes the current trophy drought that much tougher to take. Recently even the stylish quality of play is lacking.
Like you though, I have always had tremendous respect for AW and have found it tough to imagine anyone else as manager but now questions must be asked.
That said I think alot of people forget the team was alive on 4 fronts last year. The departure of Cesc and Nasri far from certain. It seems the implosion following the Cup loss and the red card exit to Barca were pivotal and suddenly a team that looked destined for years of silverware was gutted.

Injuries have hurt too but this is Arsenal so we should know about this by now.
Big mistake was failure to proactively replace Cesc and Nasri with money that should have been there leaving us with a lack of depth and at times quality.
The respectable fiscal policy has gone a bit too far and is becoming destructive. We risk missing the CL and losing an RVP in the form of his life.
Lets face it. There were plenty of reasonable signings we could have made in recent windows to fill positional needs. Including fullback even after AW said we couldn't let a lack of fullbacks cost us points which is precisely what happened.
Lots of matches/competitions and anything is possible but wih Sunderland, Milan, Spurs and Liverpool coming up Arsenal need to get it going pretty quick. The effort is there and anything is possible.
I can only urge fellow Gunners to rise up and give the team the support it needs and deserves. Apologies for the long post. Important times... Go Gunners!

Walcott is hot and cold, maybe we should really consider using him as an impact substitute as someone else stated. He's really frightening coming off the bench.
The player that frustrates me the most is not Walcott, neither is it Arshavin, it's Ramsey! Wenger has him to play 90 minutes every game no matter what form he's in. I find he's a good player and with experience will be a great player but that will only come if someone will tell him he needs to know what he's going to do with the ball BEFORE he receives it. Often times his indecisiveness is what slows down a good counter-attack and sometimes it works out for good but not enough.
The game against Man Utd, i felt Ramsey should have been substituted for Arshavin (who rather playing in the middle). And this is where I blame Wenger for his stubbornness and he has to take his fair share of the blame for the club where we're at now.
That substitution is the worse sub I've seen besides Dumb Neck taking out Thierry Henry at WC final

The main reason why we are in this position this season are because we lost Fabregas and Nasri and haven't replace them yet. they are a goal scoring midfielder. better scoring rate than any midfielders we have right now. so, since that our midfielders can,t score goal, i suggest that sometime or some game (for example Bolton game) we switch to 4-4-2. we definitely can control this game with 2 central midfielders and i think that replacing Aaron Ramsey with J.Y.Park in that game will be better because given the chances he have in this game and a few in the games before i think Park will do better than him. i'm not saying that Ramsey is not a good player. he need more time and experience. replacing Ox with Henry is not a good move. we need our two wingers stay and just add another striker to pair with Van Persie. we are no Barcelona who even they put 6 midfielders in front, still can score a goal. we are 'Invincibles' in 03/04 because we played 4-4-2. Arsene.. try to mix sometime, please

Arsenal's season is interesting because they can get killed as they did by manchester united while qualifying for the champions league about the same time. Then, make a comeback into the top 4 after being near relegation in the beginning season, and then blow teams out as they did to chelsea and blackburn.
Arsenal has a manager with conviction who produces an exciting style of attacking soccer, yet delusional fans want to see him replaced. It is exciting for me to watch arsenal more than any english team, as they can be amongst the best in the world without having the extreme talent of barcelona. Arsenal has two new players in gervinho, and chamberlin that can complement van persie and walcott which is more hope.
A real arsenal fan should be proud that they can compete while not overspending and making bad deals. Transfer deals are for teams in panic mode and weak. Arsenal has a good chance against ac milan and you should care about this match up than freaking out about next year

I wasnt going to comment on this blog until l realised a lot of you think we should sack AW,well with the small resorces that the club has do you see any other manager succeding at arsenal? And dont compare liverpool to us because they have spent 100million the past year and they are way off pace,i think their fans are more frustrated,AW is right things could be worse.imagine wat wat wenger could do with 100million! This is the best manager any club can ever get,how can some of you say hes 'stale' can a stale manager stay in the top4 for 16 years? .but we do need the club to invest more in good players and l think the reason why we are so frustrated is because we know what we can achieve with this manager

Sam,
The draw at Bolton really hurt me especially the misses by Walcot and Ramsey. However, am not giving up on AW and the team. We worn the Balckbaurn game and I hope we are on a good run now. The defenders are almost all in and we should start to do well. The Totennum game must be won

About
Sam Limbert: My retirement as a football player came at the age of 14 due to being rubbish, it's fair to say I was more Kaba Diawara than Thierry Henry, so I turned my focus to writing about the game. I'm a lifelong Arsenal fan and have been lucky enough to watch the team across England and Europe. My favourite Gunner of all time is Dennis Bergkamp, and the 2004 Invincibles is the greatest side I've ever seen in English football. I try to be positive about the Arsenal as it's the hope that keeps us going! Follow me on twitter @SamsMatchReport.
