What an unbelievable night! Rarely does the reality of football match the hype that surrounds it these days, but Wednesday night's encounter between Arsenal and Barcelona was a spectacle of the highest quality and the Gunners produced a victory that will be talked about for years in the red half of North London.

After the facile win over Wolves at the weekend, Arsene Wenger’s team couldn’t have been in better fettle going into this match. The absence of Bacary Sagna excepted, and unlike in this match-up last season, the manager was able to field a full-strength side. Any fears that the Gunners would be blown away by a force-nine Barca hurricane in a repeat of last year's first half were soon allayed as the team made a bright start carving out a couple of good early chances.

Arshavin Sparks Mayhem at The Grove©AFP

However, Barcelona soon found their stride and began to test Arsenal’s resolve. At times their movement was just scary as they effortlessly fizzed one-touch passes all over the pitch. They also have the ability to unlock the tightest of defences with slide-rule killer passes. Although the Spaniards gradually began to dominate possession, they were largely kept at arm’s length by the Gunners. It took one of those eye-of-the-needle passes to break the deadlock as David Villa raced through in the 26th minute to beat Wojciech Szczesny.

Though it was disappointing to be a goal down at half-time, the feeling in the stadium was that Barcelona may be one of the best teams you’ll ever see but Arsenal had not been outclassed in the way they were a year ago. They were still in the match. And so it proved....

In the second half, the Gunners were simply magnificent. They came out and immediately showed the right intent. Barca were still a threat but as the half wore on they gave the impression that they were content to try to sit on their one-goal lead. With an hour gone though, it was still hard to see how the home team could hit back. Try as they might, and as well as they were playing, Arsenal just could not lever their visitors onto the back foot.

It was going to take an extraordinary moment to turn the tide and in the 78th minute Robin Van Persie rose to that challenge beating Valdes at his near post with a thunderbolt shot from an impossible angle. Barcelona fans will probably be questioning their goalkeeper’s positioning but let’s not underestimate the ferocity and accuracy of the Dutchman’s strike.

If the celebrations in the stadiums were wild after Van Persie’s equaliser, they were nothing compared with the scenes following Andrey Arshavin’s winner five minutes later. It was a stunning move capped by a supreme finish by the Russian. In that one moment he confirmed that his early-season problems were behind him and he sent Ashburton Grove into orbit as total pandemonium broke out in the stands. It was breathless stuff.

The Gunners weathered a few scares in the closing moments but never looked like giving up their lead. At the final whistle, the ovation they received was long and well-deserved. The players took their time in returning to the dressing rooms as they savoured every last moment of a very sweet victory with the fans.

Though it was a fantastic team effort, a couple of performances are worthy of particular praise. Laurent Koscielny had by far his best game in an Arsenal shirt. He was quick, aggressive and, most vitally, proactive. Some still question his strength against big bustling strikers but last night he proved himself to be more than adept at dealing with the scintillating trickery of Messi and Co. He showed great concentration and took his tackling to the opposition rather than waiting for them to come to him.

Arsenal’s man of the match though was Jack Wilshere. The little man was just immense throughout. Rather than be intimidated by the occasion, he absolutely thrived on it. Forget all talk of “potential”, this boy is the real deal right now and is only going to get better. Those who have watched him play at youth level feel that the current holding role he has been asked to play somewhat constrains him. He is actually better playing in a more attacking position. However, in the rarefied atmosphere of last night’s highly technical encounter, without deserting his primary responsibilities, he was give a little more scope to give vent to his full repertoire. His composure, touch and accuracy of passing are a joy to watch and he excelled himself.

It may only be “half-time” in the tie and the Gunners still face a mammoth task at the Noucamp in a fortnight, but last night’s result was one to revel in. Whatever happens in the second-leg it was a display that the team can draw on in terms of belief for the remainder of the season.

When Arsenal left Highbury for Ashburton Grove everyone agreed that the new stadium needed to some memories to give it the sort of soul that the old place had in abundance. Last night’s match was definitely one for the memory bank.

Top mark to Wenger, who's plan B worked fruitfully. In view of likely a second yellow card for Song, Wenger strengthened the fire power by introducing Arshavin, replacing Song, formating Arshavin on the left, Walcott on the right, spearheaded by v Persie, fed by Nari, Wilshire and Fabregas. His motive is simple - to win the first leg at home. Later brought in familar triple pronged attack of Brendter/v Perie/Arshavin to show soccer world to beat the best team of Euro is not by heavy defence (like Inter-Milan) but effective attacking football.

Win over Chelsea paved the way to gain more confident and throttle to the high margin now to set 3 Wembly Finals this season

What I liked the most is the way Arsenal carved Barca open on the break after some dogged defending. They did it quite a few times and it reminded of the Henry-Ljunber-Viera era. The midfielders' bursts forward were truly menacing. A friend of mine who is a Barca fan said after the first 10 minutes 'Arsenal are more dangerous than Real Madrid. We're in trouble here'.

However, old habits die hard. How can a team that gave away a 4-0 lead to Newcastle expect to hold Barcelona at the Nou Camp? We matched Barca in this one but it could so easily have been different if Messi had taken one of his chances. What gives me hope is that we showed we can play with an effective counter-attacking style. Let us hope we can cope with the Barca onslaught that is sure to come. Oh, and let's avoid injuries.

I just wish the lads can keep the momentum and vision...we can defeat Barca on the return leg, as long as we keep the same focus. One goal for the Gunners ot the Nou Camp should seal the game if they defend like they did last night...AMAZING PERFORMANCE

Posted by Hillary Mapo on 02/17/2011

That was a fantastic result. This result will certainly sow seeds of doubt in Barca's mind. They may come at us in full force but at the same time scared of our strikeforce. It will be an interesting tie.I honestly think we wil prevail. We now know that we can beat them. The team will certainly be fired up for that one. However we need to make corrections defencively. We cannot have two defenders being beaten by the same ball.Closing down all the space will work for us as well as playing our own game.

up gunner, jack was a beeauty to watch,he out played world class midfielders like xavi and iniesta yesterday,he played as if he is makalele kudos to him, also arsenal players should not be carried away by the victory becouse barca are still waiting even though IN ARSEN WE TRUST.they should just believe that they can do it and come march at nou camp we shall be laughing again.

I couldn't agree more but would like to add that plenty of possession doesn't always guarantee victory. That's what happened to Barca last night and that what has happened to Arsenal many many times. Hope Arsenal will apply the same strategy at Newcamp..less possession, electrified counter attack and scoring more goals than the host. I also hope Sagna rather than Eboue will start.

What a match!
I felt i was live at the Emirate to experince the glamour and excitments.
But we still have alot to do. A good start for the 2nd leg.

The match is not over yet but the Gunners were fantastic. Nobody gave them a chance against the unbeatable Barcelona side. This victory proved that baca are indeed not invincible as the press make them to be. My friend Dave lost a hundred and fifty thousand Naira for betting against the Gunners. With this victory Arsenal can go to Spain with their heads high. Camp Nou Beware the GUNNERS are Coming. GUNNERS FOR LIFE!!!!!

The team played wit energy and believe. Wilshere is England's future and our goalkeeper is very stable now.I said b4 the match that barcelona is beatable and Arsenal away record this term is superb we will prevail then come MANU we will beat u.

Up Gunners! yes you have proved the sceptics wrong. yes now it is half time, the other half is 90 solid minutes at Camp Nou. Arsene is an excellent tactician. with right atittude and self belief, the other half would not be any different from the first half. when two giants play modern complete football, it is we the hapless spectators that were left with tension that you can hardly blink your eyes! Arsenal's goalkeeper is my co-man of the match with Jack.

Posted by smogfx2 on 02/17/2011

great composure, great style, great come back and a great finish by Arshavin.Jack was simply amazing.kip it up guyz.up Gunners

Posted by blave on 02/17/2011

No doubt this will galvanize the team that much further. ManU had better be wary as well. A healthy, maturing Arsenal team is truly a force to be reckoned with and is capable of beating anyone on their night.

Nice to one up Tottenham's performance of the night before and yes, create some Emirates mystique.

congratulations Arsenal Fans. Great match. Looked pretty dangerous at times with Arsenal pushing such a high line in the defense straight across. too many dangerous opportunities to feed a quick pass through to Messi or Villa. But nonetheless got the result. Agree with comment above, would like to see Sagna over Eboue for defensive stance. Granted Eboue did provide a few nice getting forward moments. Wenger looked like a bloody genius with his substitutes. Thought he should have taken Song off sooner though.

Im a Barca fan which would like to congratulate the Gunners for the win and also the style of play that they displayed as stacking ten at the back is not attractive football (Mourihno style. Lets hope you stick to playing attacking football so us the fans can enjoy two of the best teams in Europe playing amazing football...I hope you dont get to confident as you will feel the wrath of the Camp Nou....Visca Barca

Brilliant match for the Gunners...Wilshire was stunning in the mid...Cesc innovative as always...outstanding finishes by RVP and Arshavin...and certainly let's not over look Szeczesny's performance.

To nit-pick, though...whereas the 19 year-old was not content to watch the brilliance of his counter-parts, it seemed to me that the veteran Clichy was far too awe-struck by Messi and lacked assertiveness too frequently.

Also, Chamakh over Bendtner in sub would suit me.

Posted by OLAYINKA WALE on 02/17/2011

Up Gunners......who says we can't beat the best....we can do same at Nou camp if we do the following: Play a conscious attack that is well oiled by a robust midfield of 5 players like we did with Man City....suffocate the middle....and rely on counter attack.....use Theo Walcott in second half when Barca players are tired....use Sagna instead of Eboue.....and make tactical changes in the 70th minute like Prof Arsene Wenger usually does...to give more strenght to the attack and not defence.....our defence should remain same throughout......God bless arsenal and all loyal fans.....

What an amazing performance,I think if we defend well there is no doubt that RVP will get a goal at camp nou.The defence will be key to our sucess in the return leg.UP GUNNERS!

Posted by SkyDog on 02/17/2011

Arsenal has been playing well offensively. However they are still poor defensively although they have improved as compare to last season. To become a great team, they should not allow the goal keeper one to one facing messi and villa for so many occassion. Alex Song has been diligently trying to delay or block Barcelona passing. After he was shown a yellow card, he has to be careful not to get a second yellow. Fabregas and wishere have to help out at midfield to do the dirty job. By keeping tight at the midfield, this may help to limit Barcelona passing and release preassure at the back four. I find that Eboue didn't play well defensively. Sagna will be a better choice for 2nd league. Nasri is not fully fit. Hopefully his fitness and pace will improve at 2nd league.

Posted by L-V Young on 02/17/2011

ARSENAL... we played well even when people lost hope in us we still beat the world's best. Ibelieve we can do it again at Camp Nou as long as they don't play the same way they played against Newcastle..

Posted by ifeanyi udemezue on 02/17/2011

It was a pulsating stuff. Now the fear factor has been banished. The challenge, it seems to me, will be to keep these boys fit (and without injury). The next game at Camp Nou will be open as Barca would want to attack and hopefully leave spaces that could be exploited. The season just began!! Congratulations and good luck to the boys as they prepare for this tough test!!!

Posted by R2Dad on 02/17/2011

Great win for Arsenal...but can they do it again? Consistency is the mark of a champion, and that's where they have struggled for the past couple of years. Barca had 9 offside violations flagged, and their goal came because the Arsenal highline did not hold. Do not count on Barca to make that many mistakes again, or to insert a defensive player to mute their attack--they could have been up by 2 or 3 by the time the Gooner attack finally materialized. Great Arsenal defending in their 18 yard box. On to the Noucamp, to show Real how it's done.

Posted by Augustine T Will on 02/17/2011

I am delighted over Arsenal performance becoz everybody was against us.We have proven the whole world wrong that we can deliver,is not all about big names, but efficiency, coherence n courage makes the victory for Arsenal.Everybody was committed to the task ahead of them.Good work!We are now going to camp nou to make another difference in the football history.Bravo to the Gunners and be more careful when u go to camp nou.God bless.

Posted by DaveC on 02/17/2011

Great summary Dave. Here my view as well :-

- totally agree Wilshire is the "man of the match". I think he will be one of the best player in the world if he can start scoring a few goals.

- Sagna is definitely more reliable than Eboue at right back.

- Again, Walcott needs to improve his final ball and he should have a mentality not to lose the ball so easily.

- Good defending from the front. This is the major part of Arsenal's play vs. last year. But, still I think we need to get even more tighter at the front if we want to prevail at the Nou Camp.

- Cliche can be a liability at left back. He needs to improve his positional play. He needs to have a better anticipation of the attack down his end.

Posted by joeyneils on 02/17/2011

I echo all the positive comments for the Gunners...I was going nuts in my living room after the second goal, tense as ever for 90 minutes.

Biggest complaint is the cheap possession that we constantly gave up. Barca's first goal came from Fab giveaway, Song foul, buildup to goal. The fewer possessions we give to Barca the fewer chances they have obviously...minimize their possession, minimize chances on goal. we worked so hard on defense only to give possession away in the first or second pass.

Wilshere boi...man of the match by far...iniesta invisible...pedro dangerous on the wing there...pique and possibly puyol missing huge for rvp...milito will get torn a new one with abidal playing alongside him

I'm reminded a bit of the win at Milan in 2008 when Cesc and then Walcott/Adebayor scored in the last 10 minutes or so to knock out the defending UCL champs. But last night was even better because Barca had been playing at such an incredibly high standard and yet Arsenal was able to go toe-to-toe with them. These young Gunners have the talent to be world-beaters; all that was lacking is the mental component. Hopefully they can move from strength to strength after this incredible win.

Hi to all Arsenal fans across the world and the coaches and players without them there won't be any victory for us.But to touch on the game our defensive game was quite good Eboue was quite good attacking but poor in defending so it kept Walcott from attacking but rather defending and Clichy was some how the cause of the first goal scored against arsenal by rather playing villa on side and that cos the goal but jack wilshere was the man of the match with great vision, technic and composure but at will stage song was a bit crazy that football .But for me nasri told to the people of this world that he is the next zidan cos he played to perfection and more greeze to the elbow of all the arsenal player but they should determine hard and high to win the 2ndleg.and i sagna and Vermalen will help us so that we get to higher places this season .AND THANKS BE TO THE ALMIGHTY FOR THIS VICTORY.And congratulations to the players and coaching staff and the legend Henry for the inspiration.

Do you really believe Arsenal can do the same thing in Barcelona? They played great, there is no denying that, but with that high line that they played do you really think Barca won't wont take their chances at home. 76 goals between the 3 forwards. It might not be 4-1 like it was last year but it will be something close to it.

Posted by Peter tshiamo on 02/17/2011

Hi David. I thought our tactics were spot on last night-nowhere close to the calamity of the last encounter with Barca. It shows much as our critics are still not convinced, that this team can come out of Camp Nou with a result definately. We will have Sagna back for the fixture and hopefully a fully fit squad (touch wood!)to give them a great run for their money.

And David, some of us look forward to your articles on the "team blog" with great anxiety but I realise that they sometimes appear very late after the games (3-4 days)whilst at other times they dont appear at all. An example being the Wolves game which you didnt comment on :-( Please let me know if maybe Im not looking in the correct site. I hold your views in very high regard!

Posted by chris on 02/17/2011

as much as i loved the barca result, im still not getting too exited just yet. so many times in the past have arsenal had me fooled. they pull off a string of mad sexy invicible football result only to be a let down in the last 2 or 3 months of the season which inevitably ends in failure. i hope this season wenger can prove everyone wrong by doing one better then fergy and winning all 4 comps, but for me i'll wait till closer the end of the season before i start building up some sort of real belief and hope.

Arsenal desperately, desperately need this. To be a top European club, you need top European skins in your locker. Last year, Arsenal only beat Porto (looking only at knock-out stages). The year before, they beat Villareal and Roma. The year before, AC Milan, and the year before that, they lost to PSV.

In four years, only one great club, AC Milan, and that was the year they failed to qualify for the Champions League, finishing 5th in Italy. Even Liverpool have beaten Real Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona, and a scudetto winning Inter Milan.

We are obviously miles better off than the Scousers at present (see: game vs. Sparta Prague) but we definitely NEED this two-legged victory over Barcelona. It could be a huge step for this club, and we can't be satisfied with one night in London only to be undone in Spain.

COME ON YA GOONERS!!!!

One game does not make wishire a great player. He will never accomplish or be compared with xavi or iniesta. This english hype is what is killing the epl and the english team. After all this team has not won a trophie in 5 yrs. Barca had by far more clear chances and it was poor finishing that made them loose this game.

A very good write David, one that perfectly describes the pulsating match of last night. It was breathtakingly brilliant. Full marks to the Gunners first to overcome the demons of last year and second to go out and take the game to Barca which very few teams are capable of doing. The character shown by their midfield and defence was one which pleased everyone
Jack Wilshire had the match of his life. Matching his more illustrious Catalan counterparts pass for pass. Sometimes even outshining them. Laurent Koscielny and Djourou were very good against the lethal Barca attack that has demolished almost everything they had come across this season. RVP, Walcott and Nasri did their part very well. Arshavin coming off the bench silenced all his critics who have been very critical of the Russian in recent time. Hopefully Arsenal will give Barca a run for their money at Nou Camp also. Though arsenal are still the underdogs going into the 2nd leg, anything is possible at Nou Camp.

A lot has been sayd on the credit that arsenal as a team deserve.
I conquer will majority that jack wilshere was man of the moment though in the match report it was given to bosquet.
That being said let agree on couple of facts since wenger started playing fabiansk by then, sagna, clichy, kosielny, jorou, wilshere, song, fabregas, nasri, walcott headed by van persie ths spuard has never lost a game and they proved that agly against the so called best ever in the world barcelona, second the confidence in the team was high i mean the passion, pace, and confidence was absolutely emense.
I though our defence would b shocked facing the like of messi, vila, and pedro bt they finished wth brilliance.
At nou camp is a different story they will go into ths game wth only one thng in mind that is wining the game by couple of goals.
I would suggest wenger to use the style employed by dalgish to demolish chelsea weels ago by droping song back into defence whle clichy and sagna play wide as defenders and sometimes helping the attack by utilizing the pace of walcot and nasri then the midfield role b left to fabregas and wilshere whle van persie is assisted attack by nasri and walcot.
I asure u barcelona are good in first 45minutes if they dont score during this time they ussual get frastrated.

I Like attacking football, there was a beauty and entertaining game. Congratulation Arsenal, but it just the first leg. Stop thinking the game is over. Barca needs only 1 goal, only 1-0. but I am sure they want more goals, Guardiola has got lesson from emirates how he pulled out Villa and defence but it was wrong. Barca will be a dangerously and hungry team at home with it's fans as a twelve player

I,ve always been a fan of Arsenal first and Barca second because of the type of football both teams believe in. On this occasion, my Arsenal proved that when it mattered most they can exhibit strong character. I was so excited to see Arsenal fight with such determination. My wish is for the team to keep up such strong character and not wither in games like they did against Newcastle in the 4-4 draw.

Keep going Gunners, your time has come! like Frank has rightly complained, u can only have ten men behind the ball when u play against a team like baca thanks for your advice anyway Franky. Gunner till i die.

JACK WAS JUST AMAZING. OMG, IS HE REALLY JUST 19 YEARS? WOW! GOOD MATCH DOUGH,BUT I THINK THE SECOND LEAGUE WILL BE TORTURE FOR US GUNNERS BUT WE WILL COME OUT SUCESSFULL. DEFENCE MUST BE BOOSTED WITH VERMAELEN. WE SHOULD HAVE A 4-5-1 FORMATION AT CAMP NOU. CLICHY,DJOROU,KOCHELNY,VERMALEAN,SAGNA,SONG,YOUNG JACK,FABREGAS,THEO,RVP.

I could not ask for more from the boys! Go, go for all the cups!!

First and foremost i wantto thank God for confounding all the bad belle pple.It was a memorable and emotional night for me as a gunner. He that has began a good work in us will be faithful to complete it.God is not partisan, but prayer do work in times like these.Bad belle pple, see you at the nou camp for the full dose of your headache.Gunners all the way...up Arsenal.Thank you Jesus.....

Posted by NKEMJIKA on 02/18/2011

We can beat barca at nou camp.Keep the faith gunners

Posted by WALE on 02/18/2011

Yes up gunners, but it is not over yet cause at home with barca will not be easy. We(barca) is counting on 2 merit.
1.Away goal 2. Home merit. Not yet time to celebrate.BARCELONA 4 LIFE. PEACE

Since the final wistle I have watched the match three times. This is how football ought to be played, short and accurate passing especially by Barca, body movement: it was a choreography in football,no playing the leg instead of the ball, full use of the intelligence not just physical force.Any lover of football enjoyed the match. The man of the match on Arsenal side was Wiltshere. He represents how Arsene wants his players to play football. Second man of the match is the Arsenal goalkeeper. Hope Wenger saw that. With Sagna coming back after suspension and Vermaelen fit to play again, the team will be strenghtend though Wenger may prefer the twodefenders in the first leg.Eboue was no good, Song a liability and should have been replaced earlier. Chamakh should have come in instead of Brethner who plays selfish game. Could have got another goal but he shot at goalkeeper instead of passing the ball.Difficult return leg.

Posted by CYQ on 02/18/2011

Great stuff there, shown the world that we can beat the top team in the world at their own game. So i want Sagna to play instead of Eboue and i hope that Verm will be back for the 2nd Match.
Nasri needs time to regain full fitness and hopefully he'll ripe Barcelona to shreds at Nou Camp

Posted by Precious umeh on 02/18/2011

We played an amazing football, which we are hopeful we will repeat at camp nou. Keep it up boyz, ur fans will never desert you at the so-called camp. Once again, good mid-field job by jack nd fab nd the strikers also came with full force. Up gunners. From precious francis (Abuja Nigeria)

I felt i was in emirate every arsenal fan face in my hood is stil showin d joy of victry.Playin spain wil b much more easier cos barca can stop frm scorin

Posted by Alex on 02/19/2011

Great display the other night. Some of the best defending we have shown in a while. But as a few people said, it would be good if we had sagna back instead of eboue. There were weaknesses. Also id like to say for us to win at the nou camp we are going to have to attack for at least 45 and not just sit back.
Lastly this is probably the most honest review ive heard a writer on this site say about Arsenal.
Cheers.. and long live Arsenal

Posted by abian on 02/19/2011

i cant bear. although arsa won, but barca was the best

Posted by Francis Sim on 02/19/2011

It was a fantastic nail-biting match indeed. Sagna should be back in the first team after his suspension but Clichy really does need to pull up his socks. He was our weakest links along with Eboue during the match.

Pity that I won't be able to catch the away tie live but my heart will be with the Gunners. Be it good or bad, we already proved that we can beat Barca. No shame if we go down fighting at Nou Camp.

I certainly think Arsenal can win at least a trophy becoz:

UCL -The 2nd leg is very much different compared to last year. Last year, Arsenal needed a win at Barca but this year Barca will have to come at Arsenal and this could very well play to Arsenal's strength in counter attacks. Arsenal is certainly very capable of scoring atleast a goal. On paper it looks much easier than it looks. So I honestly dont think Barca will qualify the next round. The most important thing is for Wenger to rotate wisely n ensure players are fully fit in return leg.

BPL trophy -Arsenal have a easier run-in in the BPL matches compared to MU. All Arsenal need is atleast a draw or win when meeting MU. A win over MU will certainly make Arsenal favorites.

The Carling Cup is Arsenal's to lose.

And...In the previous years, injuries have always caused Arsenal dearly. However, this year has been a blessing in disguise. (We had Van Persie coming back in top form, Sczsney n Wilshire wouldnt have played).

Such a amazing performance.. i could feel the Emirates's lion roar from all the way in the u.s. I go to school and this kid comes up yo me and says arsenal got lucky.. AR YOU KIDDING ME!?!?! Our defence played well (except for the goal and some one on one chances), our attack had another great preformance, but to me (and im sure other's would agree) it was Wilshere who had the best game. Jack was in beast mode as we would say in the u.s. as he played with a cool head and his touch at times was magisterial. Overall a well won preformance in my books and i cant wait for the next leg.. not mention the next game. LET'S GO GUNNERS!!!

Posted by melvin ozone on 02/19/2011

the pressure will be on barca no doubt, without an injury.gunners will gun them down.with focus and determination we will come out flying.its pay back time.the gunners will go through.make history and give us glory.gunner for life.

Great win Arsenal. Spot on there is a lot to be done in Barcelona, but after this game the self belive and confidence should be there, just PLEASE dont open up too much be compact and patient the chances will come late if not earky from counterattacks. Jack and Koscielny had great games but Nasri was outstanding in second half, the whole team played GREAT, but that is needed to beat Barcelona machine.

congratulation Arsenal for beating the catalonians. We are proud of u.

Posted by Eichie cletus A on 02/20/2011

Arsenal played very well,we lost many chances and kudos 2 the arsenal players.Arsene wenger should focus on the defence in the forthcoming second leg and i believe at the end of the match we will carry the day.UP GUNNERS......4 LIFE.

Certainly this is the best display i've seen this team play this season. The coaching crew headed by the PROF has done tremendously well by instilling self belief and can do spirit in this young guns. Let them still enact this style of play in the 2 leg at Nou Camp. I can assure victory will be achieved with it.

Posted by ekeji lawrence on 02/20/2011

Actually d gunners were fantastic no doubt, bt d decider is stil via Camp Nou which i strongly believe dat Messi wil teach d gunners hw futball is bein playd in Camp Nou. Lets wat nd see til then.

Posted by julesforgacs on 02/21/2011

like at the world cup if Messi dont score Barca with all the brillians is just a good side. It is a delight to watch them playing but football is a game of goals and people only remember the results.Arsenal is quality without the hype of modern football and most importantly young in a aging era with more potential. Exelent football spectecular.Barca have nothing to worry about it have the Kocsis Czibor Kubala sample front of them.

Posted by azhar zahoor on 02/21/2011

again very much angered to have very anglo-centric blog ........is soccernet just for premier league clubs.??.everybody knows that luck was on arsenal side otherwise there is no comparison of class collectively ... there is not a single arsenal player who cn be compared to barca player playing on the same position... anyway a lesson would be taught in camp nou if arsenal play the same way as they played in emirates............

Posted by mayowa bd on 02/21/2011

What a great performance. Kudos to the entire team they really deserved the praises from every Arsenal fans world wide.

Posted by nate on 02/21/2011

barca will win this round of 16 and leave arsenal licking their wounds. and i am 100 precent sure.

Posted by Eria Kirangwa on 02/22/2011

I think Arsene Wenger should stick to Denilson and drop Song to avoid a possible yellow card that can put more pressure on the lad. We should atkack and defend as a team.. Arshavin Should start, and bring on Wallcot later on.. In that way, i predict a draw, with a score., possibly 1-1.

Posted by 54t4t2 on 02/23/2011

lovely article - i couldn't have summed up my thoughts as well as that, but I agree every word of it

Posted by rishav on 02/23/2011

arsenal have done all that could be done in london. the next game in barcelona is the real deal now. forget beautiful football, arsenal should crap barca out in that game. i hope arsenal play the 4-1-4-1 of 2004/5. schinzsky-eboue-djorou-koscielny-clichy-song- nasri-wilshere-fabrigas-walcott-vPersie

Posted by elhay on 02/25/2011

@Mayowa, why whining like a child, go check other teams and you'll see that each one has a blog on espn.
