Posted by David Young on 07/06/2009

Most of the squad will return from their summer breaks this week to commence pre-season training and it is not long now before we get our first taste of action with what is becoming a traditional stretch of the legs at Barnet on 18th July. After a very quiet close-season so far, it will be good to have some real football to watch and talk about, even if most of the team that day will be made up of second-string players and youngsters.

Following the purchase of Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax a few weeks ago, there has been no further transfer activity aside from some of the younger players either signing improved deals or being released. The tiresome annual circus of transfer speculation, gossip and rumour has been pleasingly muted this summer. A few new names have been linked with the club, but nothing concrete has emerged so there is very little point in indulging in any further dissection of that. Ultimately, potential new players only become interesting once they have signed on the dotted line and Arsene Wenger is not a man who tends to loudly advertise his targets ahead of time. All we can do is sit and wait patiently to see who, if anyone, might arrive between now and deadline day.

The other side of the coin with regard to summer transfer conjecture is the question of who may be leaving. Again, there have been a few rumours but nothing really to get excited (or upset) about. The two names that appear to be at the top of the list of potential leavers are Emmanuels Eboue and Adebayor. Today it was reported that Fiorentina might be willing to accept Eboue as a make-weight in a deal to bring Brazilian Melo to North London. Whilst in the case of Adebayor, the manager has stated that he not leaving - though one suspects that this is merely lip-service to prevent his current valuation collapsing, particularly when it is unlikely that the club will get as much as they might have done had they shipped him out last summer.

That this pair would seem to be the most likely to leave were there to be any departures will not come as a surprise to most fans. Neither covered themselves with glory last season. But there may be another reason why Arsene Wenger might be keen to unload them this summer - and also why rumours of Kolo Toure possibly being on his way out of the club keep cropping up.

January 2010 sees the next staging of the bi-annual African Cup of Nations. Why this tournament is scheduled in the middle of the European season and why it is played every two years instead of every four like the other major international competitions seems to be mainly because, historically, that is how it has always been done. In the past, it may not have mattered so much to European teams but now, with so many Africans playing at the highest levels both in England and on the continent, the prospect of losing key players for up to a month is one that top-flight managers now have to build into the plans and calculations.

What this means is that a tournament that was originally created to promote and develop African football could turn out to be counter-productive in that effort as the major teams across Europe opt out of signing players who they will lose for a month in the middle of season every two years or, alternatively, the African players refuse to play for their countries, which will deprive a major football tournament of some of its stars.

It is a problem that has already been noted by FIFA and in January 2008 Sepp Blatter called for the African Cup of Nations to be scheduled in June or July by the year 2016. This move would mean that many central and western African countries would be unable to stage the tournament due to those months coinciding with their rainy seasons. It would also require that the bi-annual format of the tournament be changed in order for it not to clash with the World Cup. There doesn’t seem to be an easy or perfect solution to any of it - and 2016 does seem a very long way off. In the meantime, African football and the players it exports could find themselves stifled while matters are resolved.

From an Arsenal point of view, the club currently has four African players in its first team squad - Adebayor, Eboue, Toure and Song. Though next year’s tournament runs from 10th-31st January the players will be missing for a couple of weeks before the start date in order to prepare with their international squads. Clearly, not all of them will be there until the final but regardless of when their teams are eliminated and there is the question of how much time they will need to recover afterwards from both the differing climate and the travelling - not to mention the spectre of injuries that may be sustained whilst they are away.

Certainly, the African Cup of Nations comes at a crucial time of the season for Arsenal. The weekend the final is due to be played in Angola, the Gunners are scheduled to be hosting Manchester United at Ashburton Grove. They then play Chelsea away and Liverpool at home on the 6th and 9th February respectively. Assuming that the squad manage to keep themselves in contention for the title during months preceding the New Year, this ten-day period would seem to have the potential to make or break any title dreams that Arsenal might have. It is certainly not a time to have any of the squad away, injured or suspended.

Of their "top four" rivals, Chelsea seemingly are the club who will be hit hardest by African Nations absentees with Essien, Drogba, Kalou and Mikel all due to be away. Though this quartet might seem like a greater loss to the Blues than Adebayor and Co. would be to Arsenal, Chelsea do have far greater strength in depth to cope with losing four players than Arsenal do.

The upcoming season could be a pivotal one for Arsene Wenger. Most supporters have kept patience with his long-term approach to building a team but in return some signs of real progress need to be achieved for everyone to retain their faith that the club is heading in the right direction. Wenger knows that he has not got a lot of room to manoeuvre and, even if the team do end up trophy-less again next term, at the very least, a creditable challenge for honours has to be mounted, particularly with regard to the Premier League. Over these summer months, the manager will be plotting out his plans for the next year and one wonders how much the African Cup of Nations will affect his thinking – not only about who might be leaving, but also regarding who he might be looking to bring in.

Well said. I agree it will hurt teams especially during that crucial period for the gunners, but it seems by signing Vermalen we have added much needed depth to a battered back line. I feel that Toure is our top defender, adding Vermalen has cured the problem of his tour in Africa. While Eboue and Song should have little effect if gone missing (if our starting 11 is healthy!), Adebayor who I hate and love, and hate again has a presence that will be hard to replace... Especially in big games.

Arsene Wenger really need holding midfielder. He must sign Melo if he want to chalenge for the title.he should let Adebayor go and bring a better striker.the signing of Ajax defender was one of positive step.Wenger shouldn't continue to keep Jourou who is slow in making center of defence.Kieren Gibbs is fast improving.

It is all too familiar a story with regards to the transfer activities and Arsenal. It is not that we are very excited about transfers. But based on the team's performance last season, the lack of experienced hands, particulalry in midfield and the lack of proper defensive players had all contributed to our desire or rather craving to have something significantly added to the current team. How many times have we lamented on the lack of depth in the team? Vermaleen was one good addition. But it will be premature to get too excited about it. We still need a quality striker and a strong midfield player. Looking at the activity this summer, or the lack thereof, it may be another familiar tale when the season starts in Aug. "We have youth and quality; we do not need any new players;we were priced out" What's new? We need real progress and another trophyless season, albeit with strong challenge will still be considered a failure.

adebayor is killing Arsenal team slowly... uh ohh... better sell him before late... he is terribly under productive!... not justify huge salary paid to him by Arsenal!...

asan wenger sometime get my nerve... still keeping s**t player when the matter most is to get world class player!...

Posted by KIRIGA on 07/07/2009

adebayor nor eboue should leave and im sure will have a good season .Ade can still score is a good player make sure he plays often wenger should have his first eleven this issue of rotating ade is a problem .make him play as henry was given a chance to score and he will .Eboue has played both right back and wing and no body seems appliciate this so we need him if we get a problem on the right wing

Posted by Evan on 07/07/2009

Bendtner needs to mature or move out. We've been holding on to him like he'll be the next golden boot as long as we give him more polishing. Sh#t or get off the surfboard Bendtner - That's our striker solution.

Posted by rohan on 07/07/2009

brilliant article. analyses almost all the aspects. personally i believe that bendtner is crap and any deal above ten mill should be agreed. but melo will be a long way in strenghtening the gunner midfeild. though a question to be asked is that does Wenger have enough money for these deals. according to pre transfer talks rumours were flotaing that Wenger had in the range of 20-25 million pounds which is just enough to get 2 decent players. if the figure is correct then Wenger has already spent nearly half the money. unless he gets more money or the rumour was false(i certainly prefer the first one) i do not see Wengre getting a busload of new players.

one must admit Wenger's careful signing of Arshavin has proven to be wonderful.

btw new jerseys look really bad(this being an understatement

ARSENAL SHOULD GO BLOCKING 4 AND A DEFENDERS LIKE TWO

Posted by Innocent Oluchi on 07/07/2009

I am very impressed with the purchased of Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax a few weeks ago,but that is not enough as Arsene Wenger should go for an experience defensive melfielder and a good and striker because that is were Arsenal has the worst problem

Posted by Kenneth on 07/07/2009

I think Wenger should sell off Adebayor and use that money to buy Eto. He made the mistake last season for not selling Adebayor. Hope he will not repeat the same mistake again and sell him off before no other clubs want him anymore after this season!!. Eto will add stability and much need experience to the front line. And his goal socring record is much better than Adebayor or any strikers Arsenal has now. Beside....paying 20-25 million pound for a striker of his calibre is a steal at current transfer market. Go for it before it is too late.

Posted by Kenneth on 07/07/2009

Arsenal need to sell off non-effective players and bring in some new players. I will talk about the defenders in this post. Wenger should sell of Gallas. He is old and slow and proven ineffective for big matches. It is time to sell him while Arsenal can still get something out of him. Then Wenger should buy Micah Richards from Man City. He is young and strong and is a proven leader. He may cost a bit more now but it is a worthwhile investment as he will be with the club for the next 10-15 years. Imagine how much he will cost per year?? Based on that, he is a steal. Besdie, he can both play as defence or defensive midfield. Also, he is English and will allow Arsenal to meet the quota of Champions League. I urge Wenger to buy M. Richards as he will bring stability and pace to the Arsenal defence for the next decades!!

Melo is our medicine of what we are missing,
lets hope we sign him

Posted by Vishaal on 07/08/2009

I really think that Adebayor has a love/hate relationship with Arsenal. I love him when he works, but I hate him when he's lazy. I don't think he's doing good for the team though. I agree that E'too would be a good signing to replace him but I don't think we can afford him. After signing Melo (hopefully) we should really look to offload Adebayor and find a replacement. I suggest somone like Huntleaar, or even Dzeko, but he might not be right. I also want to give kudoo's to Arsene for working like this. By keeping quiet no one fusses and clubs can't raise their asking price knowing we want their player. He should be a ble to make a few new signings, and we should hopefully have a few new trophies as well :P.

Posted by Maran on 07/08/2009

We hope this is not another season for Arsenal. This should be THE Arsenal's season. Man U was great last year as they had depth and preserverence. More than losing Ronaldo and TeveZ, they will now have to start re-organising their game a little to accomodate thei new acquisitions, esp Owen and cope with ageing Scholes and Giggs. Chelsea will have a new manager. Liverpool will be the team to watch. All we hope for is for Arsene to strengthen the team with Melo and a accomplished striker and keep Adebayor away. The rest will fall in place. Hopefully with Melo safeguarding the middle of the park, Cesc re-discovers his attacking instincts and orchestrates THE Arsenal onslaught with Arshavin, Nasri and Walcott. And with a truly dedicated and class striker we convert the onslaught into goals. Vermaleen will add to confidence of our defence, and hopefully the goalie is not tested that often. If the team has the belief and with some discipline, they should be the KINGs of EPL this season!

Posted by Jimi on 07/08/2009

Defensive midfielder would be handy, and the lack of firepower can hopefully be solved with who we didn't have last year (lets consider eduardo & rosicky as new signings). Also Theo will play more prominently through the middle at times so between a fit Van Persie, Ade, Eduardo, Theo, Bendtner, Arshavin and Rosicky there should always be enough goals. Stopping them going in should be the main priority

Posted by Eric Badasu on 07/08/2009

Wenger shd admit it was a huge mistake to let Flamini go.Part of our solution could be to offload Lazy Adebayor to AC for 20m + Flamini on top!Forget abt Melo guys, Flamini is tried and tested.Use part of the 20m to buy Richards (we need more English players in da sqd). The bal + the remainder of the transfer budget shd b used to buy Yaya coz he can play as both a DMF & CB very well.Like others hv said we already hv enuf firepower & Theo is ready for a central strikin role.Even if Walcot flops he will at least score as much goal as a very lazy & impotent Ade.We dont need Galas, sell him.If we fail to buy anymore players then we shd at least try Jourou as a DMF.Lastly, we shd alter our style of walking the ball into the net.Lets start firing from all cylinders, from all parts of the field.By-pass midfield sometimes with high balls with our wingers going behind defenders more in cases where the opponents decide to park a buss or build 2 lines brick walls!Lets tear em apart Gunners!Go Asnl

Posted by balogun emma on 07/08/2009

I want the manager to overhaul the team with a competent mid-fielder and a serious striker who is not lazy as Ade. It is the joy of the fans for buying a defender so far but not yet a melody for us to competit with other clubs like:manu, chelsea.Wishing us farewell season with trophies.

Posted by FELIX on 07/08/2009

selling off ade, eboue, gallas, senderos&bring dzeko, chamuka but arsenal can notafford etoo

Posted by Aggrey on 07/08/2009

Some of you need to appreciate the role bendtner played during the last campaign. He managed to score 9goals in the league when he did not start most of the games. There were some games when Arsenal was on the verge of defeat and he came off the bench to salvage some points. He only needs to improve on the shooting ability - accuracy and strength. He can be handfully of many defenders considering that he has shown us his arial powers.
Eboue is a good defender but since the arrival of Sagna, he has been played out of position and you guys now can make the noise over his failure to adapt to that position which has been finally taken up by Walcott.
If he leaves we shall have a deficit of right backs in case Sagna is not available.
I beleive he has a better game reading than Sagna. It would not be wise to sell off these two chaps.
The sell of Adebayor would give Arsenal some cash to bring in sharp striker - Any of the 2 morocan internationals-Chamakh or that AZ Alkmaar striker.

Posted by SAKJ on 07/08/2009

Bendtner needs to mature, grow up or move out. We've been holding on to him like he'll be the next golden boot as long as we give him more polishing. Sh#t or get off the surfboard Bendtner - That's our striker solution.

Posted by edwin david on 07/08/2009

whatever the case if wenger doesnt buy a holding midfielder the season will be lost like last season. wenger should not expect miracles from heaven. this is the time to strengthen if arsenal is to win any trophy in the coming season.

Posted by mwongez on 07/09/2009

Melo is what we need, a good striker will be an added advantage. It is better to have one excellent striker than have a dozen of flukes.

Posted by Nazeem on 07/09/2009

I agree that ade should br sold. We need a strong holding midfielder in the mould of (Gilberto) anybody see the confed. cup, should have kept him another season. I think we have enough stricking power even without ade. we have(walcot, van persie, eduardo, rosikie, arshavin, bendtner). Sanderos should have improved on his year on loan, get him back as cover, there is a long season ahead. Give Jourou more playing time, and please get rid of Gallas and Selvestrie

Posted by kabanda, Uganda on 07/09/2009

Well well well, here we go again, its no surprise that arsenal has lost Melo to Juve, wenger is always slow when it comes to signing quality players, i think arsenal should oofload Ade,Gallas & Eboue, it should then get a quality holding midfielder,a stricker, and a defender, otherwise be prepared to finish fifth, with man city coming in fourth.

Posted by Ajibola Michael on 07/09/2009

it is very clear what needs to be done in Arsenal! what shockes me the most is when i read chamak if Adebayor leaves...it make me feel as if Mr. Wenger is only focusing on french speaking player? Yes, Arsenal shouldnt overspend it like Real! but again you must invest especially in those that can move you forward, so Arsenal needs to be realistic, IF Adebayor leaves, the only answers is Huntelaar! should Kolo Toure leave the answer must be someone of the likes of Lucio(who seems to be unhappy), an experience&sensible Defender with strenght and the ability to score when needed, W.Gallas somehow has it but then again he is 33+ now...I think it is very simple Arsenal needs to stop experimenting with lazy Talents(Diaby,Adebayor,Bendtner...)- let me give u an instance Players like Ryan Babel,Ashley Young,Huntelaar, Mahmmadou Diarra,Abou Diara(would have been interesting) you would see a diffrent Arsenal on the Pitch!let me stop here but pls correct me if i am wrong?

Posted by Aggrey on 07/09/2009

Mr. Kabanda, Even if Man city shopped all the Barcelona players, they would not just jump into the top four unless the coach is also changed. Look at Tottenham last season which bought all sorts of players but they were in a limbo for half of the 1st part of the season until they were rescued by the man who has mastered in saving relegation bound teams - Mr.H.Redknapp.
The only trouble i see is the continued trophyless seasons and the subsequent exodus of players who want to win.
The comming season, i believe Arsenal will perform better considering that Arshavin will be eligible for all cups and present the entire season. Denilison Diaby, & song have matured and can provided the necessary shield to the Defence.
Arsenal loss of points hasn't been the lack of a defensive midfielder but how to break the highly defensive teams. The solution lies in Arshavin and Rosicky, if fit.
It is painful to say but i don't think Eduardo will have the same confindence again. Let's deal with him 1st

Posted by Allen on 07/09/2009

Interesting point made in this blog, but I really doubt that Wenger going to make such major decisions based solely on what might happen during a short few weeks of the season. If the Africans are the best options to have, he will keep them. If they are not, then they'll be leaving. Wenger is too much of a pragmatist to make decisions without looking at things from a total perspective for the club...On the transfer market, I wonder if Van der Vart would be a good fit should Melo not be arriving at the Emirates? Just a thought, Madrid have a slew of Dutch players available.

Posted by Kevin on 07/10/2009

It looks like we are stranded with the captivity of negativity. Can we all desist from this criticism of especially Emmanuel Adebayor. We all must admit that the dimensions he brings to our game are critical.Body strength, aerial ability, good touch, great control, pace, decent dribbler too,and for me the most important of all...self belief.I know he misses a few easy chances but you never see his head drop.
Now to Gallas, selling him because you have bought Vermalaen is for me making a step forward and two steps backward. His mentality can be changed as we witnessed before he got that season ending injury, not to mention the experience he brings to the team.
Otherwise on a whole if we manage to keep this team together, this season will be good.

Posted by NII on 07/10/2009

PLS WENGER SHOULD SELL ADE AND GET HuntelaarAND Van der Vart FOR OUR STRIKING ROLE HE IS THE BEST REAL DONT NO HOW TO USE HIM AND WE ARE GOING TO SHOW THEM HOW TO USE HIM WHEN WE GET HIM IN ARSENAL. SO PLS SOME ONE TO TELL WENGER TO BUY HIM AND SELL ADE AND eduardo

Posted by afolabi oluniyi on 07/11/2009

It will be good to havo Melo in the squad as his performance in the confederation cup can not be under estimated.I suggest a sharp striker to strenghten the squad

Posted by kabanda on 07/11/2009

Wengers transfer policy favours french speaking players without doubt, however he still thinks the 'kids' can really challenge for any trophy.
The arsenal board also shares the blame for insisting on the current policy which has failed, let them try out what Usmanov proposed to fund the transfer period, otherwise arsenal needs an overhaul starting with the board members who are out to make money for thier pockets forgetting the fans who spend their dime to watch the games.these people are not sports, they are business people who mind about profits made by the club rather than trophies won at the end the season.

Posted by Chris Kabagambe from Uganda on 07/11/2009

there are interesting ideas from the responses the winner being;

Sale Ade for 20m + Flamini buy Mica Richards for his English & can play defencive midfeild

we need to know that while you can not win a tittle from defence alone, we have lost four or more concecutive tittles from defence coz we have enough fire power and even our backup fire power from the mid field is better than most premier teams

our current critical weakness is to get in more non similar defenders (short Kolo & Galas on one hand and Short Mid fielders Song,Denilson, Fabrigas & Eboue)how will you defend corners against Hull city, Chelsea with out compromising capacity to counter attach?

and finaly lets forget about walking the ball into the net other ways Wenger with all the fire power he currently has will never never see the premiership again

another holding midfielder and a striker should come in, but with what money is Wenger going to buy? unless the fans chip in and help pay's wage every week.

Posted by Ibem Chidiebere on 07/12/2009

Wenger should go for one more defender, one midfielder to be assisting Fabrigas and one striker.

Posted by Ismail on 07/12/2009

Arsenal needs anothe Central Defender, Holding mid-fielder and a goal keeper. Fabianski has not been upto mark!

Posted by Tunde Lawal on 07/12/2009

Please Wenger should allowed Adebayo, Gallas and Sylvester to go and bring in productive players that can deliver what we need. Reason due to their careless last season we lost to some vital point against unknown team in premier leaque. I excpect arsenel wenger to take advantage of Micha Richard with Man City during the last break, but my man refused to take the advange which cost a lot of problem. Meawhile is not too late, if flanini and Hleb can be secure back to the team, I belive with the caliber of players and tallent in the team, we can deliver. Thanks Tunde

Hi guys,i really want to say i am really sick and tired with the way arsene wenger operates, what the hell is ade,and diaby is still doing at the emirate.wenger is also very slow in shopping for players, how could he have lost melo to juve.he always lose any player he competes for.i hope he is not thinking of holding the midfield with denilson again this season.i expect wenger to go for mommodu diara since madrid are willing to offload the player,or he should get flamini back from ac milan since they are ready to swap him with adebayo and also pay us 20m.We really need a very potent and sharp striker to pair van persie, now that van persie is really at his peak.PLEASE ADEBAYO IS A DISASTER TO ARSENAL.SO HE SHOULD GO

Posted by kachi . nigera on 07/13/2009

Please Arsenal should do something b/4 it is too lat, last season no silvaware .Our midfilder should be strenghten if they want to acheive anything this season.Ade should go alongside silvester

Posted by tito on 07/13/2009

i think adebayor should go,we need a fierce striker and a holding midfieldr like melo, arsene wenger should get melo at all cost.then give the youngstars more premiership opportunities.

Posted by Aggrey on 07/13/2009

Why did we buy Slyvester in the first place who is past his footballing days? He can not even play for a non league team. Being a frenchman, he was being saved for not getting thrown out of OT.

Posted by olatunji on 07/13/2009

hi guyz, regarding to what ALAMUTU said, it will be nice if arsene wenger can ofload adebayo and swap for flammini, but my fear is that arsene do not take back what he give out, what we need especially is a centre mildfielder, i hope the board should be able to iron out the differences they ve.

We don't need to spend big for a holding mid-fielder.
Kolo should be used in that role - he'd be ideal, and that's where he started.

Posted by Everest Akouete on 07/13/2009

Guys it is easy to blame Ade for all Arsenal's problems. I beleive he is one of the 5 good strikers in the premier league. Arsenal problems are in the midfield and in the defence. Every big team outspent us each season. We want top notch team but we're not willing to spend.I'm even going far by saying that Almunia is not a goal keeper who can win a champions league cup for us. Please leave Ade alone, he is ok and focus on the most urgent problems: Midfield and Defence.
Allez Arsenal

Posted by UNACHUKWU ONYEKA on 07/14/2009

Arsenal problem is not only finisher, the major problem is their inability to defend the one scored.I was very disappointed to see my club humiliated by small club like Hull, fulham etc. Wenger should go extra mile in strenghten our defence, let silvester,Adebayor,Diaby find thier way they hav shown their incapability.we need one good player who will help FAB.in cordenation of midfeild.I belv with caliber of sagna, song, ashavin, clichy, fab,vp etc.2009/2010 season will be profitable. My fellow fan don;t lose hope.

I have always had confidence in Mr Wenger. Even when Henry left for Barca, I told my friends that as long as the coach remained, things will fall back to normal. Arsenal is probably the most less equipped team that has gone on to achieve beyond expectations. In the just ended season, they reached two semi finals ahead of the likes of Liverpool despite injuries to its stars. I only pray that we stay free of injuries, otherwise the team is ok even if Ade could be offloaded.

I really want to give all kudoz and appreciation to mr wenger for all his strategies and policies for his experienced managerial skill he showed to arsenal..wenger is a very good coach but he has to let some strategies be for now and some for the future...The football life style is now so challenging that we have to go the xtra mile if at all we want to achieve secure some silverwares this new season. i think wenger need to let tribalism be cut off in the gunners squard, gone are those days when football is not wide but now the smallest club in the league are striving to make something out of what they can invest in.....we need to fix in some more great players of good delivering qualities like yaya toure, fabiano and a giant like onyewu and players like gallas, sylvester and the lazy beast Ade should be off the team.
Am greatly assured by so doing with real commitment from the players and support from the fans and board of the club, we most surely secure some silverwares this season

Posted by wilson ebenezer on 07/15/2009

All i taught we need the most at arsenal for now is that we need to secure the signing of a very good and strong defending mieldfieder and a very chap and prolific striker and they are players with good abilty and qualities, players like melo and fabiano and sell players like adebayor and gallas off and am quite sure we are on the race of joy over the premier and european league..thanks.

well am very impress towards the performance of the team. in fact i am hailing arsenal as the best club in the world due to the reason that we ve got no mush most heard players but arsene has really proven him self to be the world best coach by training many world class players such as cesc, adabayor, persie, kolo and several of them. But one thing this club suppose to bear in mind is that the more players are been bought and sold, the more disorder is the club and when players are been sold without relacement such as buying new ones or bringing up young ones who are good in such wing, then that is the worst case. so i urge winger to either stop the buying and selling of players, but even if it happens that a player is been sold, then he should find way of replacing such player and also having capable reserves......So he should know what best fits this summer trasfer as the best coach i hail him............ARSENE WINGER........... keep it on i hail you.

I think our arsenal is a great club no matter who goes or stays. That we have passed through series of unproductive and trophyless seasons is no individual player's making. Unproductive players have certainly found themselves in arsenal's ranks while some good ones have been lost without reasons. I think theres a fundamental problem with the arsenal psychology. Until the rotten teeth is pulled out, the mouth must chew with caution. Arsene Wenger should go.

When I read the comments I suspect we have Man Utd fans posting lies. The Arsernal team has enough depth (when there are no injuries) with the likes of Arshavin, Eduardo, Van Persie, Walcott, Vela leading the pack upfront... you could add Bentdner and Wilshere to the list. In the middle we have Fab and Song who just required more playing time including Diaby, Ramsey, Denilson, Nasri, Rosicky and others including Eboue or Melo. Now unless we have another definition of depth or we would rather have a situation of frustrated players because of numbers (Tevez) then lets not give solutions that are either an imitation of another team or mere finger pointing players for the sake seeing your mail posted. Arsenal is where it is because of our philosophy and we will not copy Barca just coz it won this year... we will win the trophies our own way with or without Adebayor.

Ade to my mind was (is) a vital component to Arsenal's ability to challenge for trophies this upcoming season. His ability and presence is not present in any other player on the current squad. I think we definitely need a holding forward and there aren't many quality players out there to replace Ade who are available. Now alot of our fans are against Ade for some reason but surely its not football. but to another comment about DIABY hell no... he is young but has star potential..everyone sees it so i am holding him.. I think our first team selection in midfield is too short now (Nasri,Arshavin,CescDenilison) although all skilful and promising they are all small bodied. I fear thats why in the FA cup semis Arsen went with Diaby and Song. The latter plays more a defensive midfield in any event.Melo would be a great addition to the squad which I contend needs to get deeper.

it takes time to realise that some one is bad but on my side idonot blame ADEBAYO because he has done wht he has managed for arsenal and he has to leave chance for the capble people like V.PERSIE,EDUARDO,BENTINER AND WALCOT since it is not easy for the arsenal supporters to know hiw good you are god bless yuo ADEBAYO welever you go continue shinning dear.

no matter ebou must leave coz he caused us harm last season

Why isn't javier saviola or that style player coming to arsenal??? He would play perfect within arsenals style.

As an Arsenal fan, it saddens my heart to see other clubs enjoying the transfer market while we at Arsenal and does nothing, the club should come out of their closet and say they do not have funds rather then pretending. Melo has gone to Juventus why because we couldn’t compete with them. One of the shareholders (Usmanov) promised to assist with funds to strengthen the squad but the board refused, why would they refused and not give Mr. Wenger some fund to bring in players.

Please for God sake, this guys at the helm of affairs shouldn’t be playing with people’s emotions, we shouldn’t be taken for granted because we love and cherish Arsenal. Please give Mr. Wenger funds, we the fans needs to be excited for this coming season. Mr. Wenger wants to bring in Basong, a holding midfielder and a striker to replace Ade.

I hope you guys @ Soccernet can relate this message to board thanks

I have no qualms with Arsene Wenger keeping the bulk of his team together, but one striking thing is that Wenger himself needs to wake up.He gambled with his team selections last season, not having enough depth was the bane of our darling team. Adebayor is not our problem, emirate fans weren't supportive after his failed moves to Barca and AC, culminated to booing and under performance. Wenger is one man that doesn't listen, we're just making our analyses as concerned fans, would he take some time and reason with the fans? The board also needs to be changed out completely, bunch of business minded individuals who do not care about how the fans feel, as long as they can smile to the banks. sell, Gallas, silvestre,Diaby and that will be ok.Cesc also is not in his good element, he needs to up his game.
Arsenal can do without any player including Cesc, Wenger etc.we need a team that can compete, and show character when the need arises. A more purposeful midfield,& a creative marksman

We are not in the same league as Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd and should not be considered as one of the English football giants. The gunners looked even more pathetic then they are 1 year ago. The Board unable to fund top class player has given Arsene no choise but to use young players like Denilson to play in midfield and jollywell know that he is not on par with players like Xabi Alonso and Gareth Barry. The BOD really hs unrealistic optimism hoping our younfg player could surpass the older world class player. Stop dreaming! The Arsenal Board Of director should consider selling their shares to Usmanov to fund purchase of player for the seek of the club.

What a about Martins? He'll be a good replacement for Ade. Plus Newcastle wont demand much for him.

Posted by ron-keith on 07/17/2009

Mr. Wenger needs to buy a really good midfielder and at least one good striker....the problem lies in the amount of money the manager has at his disposal based on the market price for players. To win the league, Arsenal needs quality, we've got a few youngster but we need experience.....shouldnt have sold Flamini after Henry and Hleb left....Wenger should sell Ade and buy Eto, Huntelaar, or Van-dar-Vart

Pls Arsene spend some money to buy MID plyer and DEF player. Let go Eboe,Bdner,Galas,Slvestre.
Changed Arshv position to striker coz he got hi skill.

Letting the quality of Yaya Toure slip thru his grasp, only to be pitifully managing with the inadequacy of Denilson a couple of years later,is,simply put,PATHETIC;and emblematic of how much Arsene has lost his way lately. He simply needs to re-invent his outlook and methods a wee bit!

I salute you all gunners world over.Thanx all for your opinions.I also dont differ from many of you.
Am happy at this moment coz of adebayor's probable departure within a few hours but Silvestre should follow without asking, having Gallas and Eboue as defensive covers wont be bad considering the length of a season. And look ,we have massive signings in Edwardo and Rosicky who together with RVP,Theo,Fab,Nasri, Asharvin, this attack will be envied by every team in the world and remember we'll be having Diaby as cover plus Bendtner though another striker wont be a bad addition. As far as holding midfield, Song's development by the end of last season was there for every body to see, so I expect him to continue from where he stopped. So Wenger, shop for a goal Keeper and possibly another good defender and we'll make everybody cry
Bravo Arsenal
