Arsenal turned in a creditable performance at Old Trafford last weekend and, despite not quite being able to find a goal to spoil the party, they did restore some of their battered pride. A nervous-looking Manchester United seemed happy to defend and hold out for a draw whilst the Gunners held the majority of possession and came close to nicking a goal on a couple of occasions. The score finished nil-nil which was all United needed to take the title and Arsene Wenger’s men could at least leave the stadium with their heads up.
Most of the talk this week though has been about the future of Arsene Wenger and Emmanuel Adebayor. Wenger was reportedly upset by some of the questioning he faced at the club’s annual shareholders’ meeting. This was followed by some interview quotes from the manager that seemed to suggest that he wouldn’t be entirely averse to considering taking the job at Real Madrid. Only a matter of days later these rumours were dead in the water and all seems to be sweetness and light again as the team go into their final match against Stoke on Sunday at Ashburton Grove.
Wenger has stated clearly that he wants to stay and finish the job he has started. Whether this story was just mischief-making by Madrid or whether the manager was looking for some sympathy after getting a rough ride from the shareholders is open to question. For him to have gone to Madrid would have represented a massive volte face from a man who has made a big play of his word and integrity. After all, this is manager who does not walk away from a contract. The other thing to consider is that any criticism he may have received this season is nothing compared to the white-hot attention he would have to fend off on a weekly basis in Spain.
When the time finally comes for Wenger to leave, the more likely scenario for his departure would seem to be him walking away from the club at the end of his current contract. That way, he gets to leave with his integrity intact and no one on the Board has to be tagged with the dubious label of the man who sacked Arsene Wenger. As it is, he looks set to lead the club next season and most supporters will be happy with that news on the proviso that he does make a few adjustments to the squad. His contribution to Arsenal Football Club cannot be understated and for him to leave following this current situation would have been unsatisfactory for all parties.
The situation with Emmanuel Adebayor is completely different though. After an interview given to British TV last weekend where he appeared to blame fans for his poor form this season he has well and truly burned his bridges with most Arsenal supporters. It will be interesting to see if he features at all in Sunday’s match or in the post-match lap of the pitch. His presence in either scenario is sure to provoke a negative reaction. Here we have a player who worked hard in his first season, conned an improved contract out of the club with threats to leave during last summer and has delivered little this season. If medals were given out for lack of effort and being persistently caught offside, he would be Arsenal’s most decorated player this term. His behaviour and general demeanour over the past twelve months represent so much that is wrong with the money-soaked modern game. He has shown no loyalty to those who gave him a chance and has only sought to line his own pocket on the strength of one good season. It is irritating that he is always the first player to talk to the press to explain where things have gone wrong but always the last one to actually do anything about it on the field of play. Reported to also be a negative and destructive influence in the dressing room, Arsenal will be well-rid of him in the summer. The only regret will be that he was not sold for maximum profit twelve months ago.
So, as another season comes to an end the sadness of the last match and a few months without our beloved team looms. Before then though, we have the pleasure of seeing the Arsenal youth team contesting the final of the FA Youth Cup against Liverpool. The first leg is at Ashburton Grove on Friday and the return leg is at Anfield next Tuesday – poignantly on the 20th anniversary of the Gunners’ famous title-winning match up there on the last day of the 1989 season. The Young Guns have already clinched the FA Youth Premier League with a one-nil victory over Spurs at White Hart Lane last week and they are sure to be up for completing a notable double. A crowd of over 20,000 are expected at the Grove tomorrow night to see Jack Wilshire, Emmanuel Frimpong and a whole host of up-and-coming young Arsenal players hopefully get their noses in front against a strong Liverpool team.
Though the first team were unable to clinch any silverware this season, should the youngsters win the highly prestigious FA Youth Cup we could go into the summer with at least something to smile about.

It was very apparent Adebayor was imagining that he was of Henry class teh moment he came in. The way he started dancing with Henry and showboating, he was thinking he has already made it. Sad case of football today. But to some extent I think the manager should be held accountable. Does this happen in Man U? Look at how Rooney and Ronaldo have been acculturised to be team players? I think it has to do with managers.
It is unfortunate but necessary that Wenger takes the flake. No doubt he has made a great difference to Arsenal football club, but his recent performances as manager is less than ideal. No need to kick boots but someone needs to discipline the boys, especially when we have young minds and boosted egos in the dressing room.
We need some reinforcements in the team. But more importantly, we need a strong manager, captain to lead, and a team full of hardworking and loyal players.
As I did ritually for past 4 years, I will spend the next 3 months dreaming...

Committed Arsenal supporters, would acknowledge the great work done by Mr. Wenger. We salute you. The last 4 years did not do go for the club and your legacy. The move to the Emirates is to blame partially, the no-budget situation to buy player that Arsene managed to hide. Now we have shareholders who want to take the club places, lets embrace the spirit and make the best out of these good men Stan & Usmanov. But avoid splashing 'mad'money like the Chelsea & Man City tragedies.
Lets keep Ade and this team, release Silvestre, Fabiansky & Abou Diaby. Buy two defenders [Hangeland] & proven two midfielders[Yaya],proven striker[Tevez] & goalkeeper #2.
Ivan you did well by believing and keeping Mr. Wenger. Lets get off the blocks running next season, the boyz have become men. Viva Cesc for captain and viva pro-Gallas.

Arsene wenger should know that by now any way a team is seen depends on the way the coach decided to mould his players.I beleieve that by next season he cannot expect to tell us that this team has potential because four years has past since we've been hearing that kind of stuff. What we expect of wenger like most of the writters said is for him to get a very good and experienced defender plus an experienced defending midfielder and if possible, sell adebayor. If all this is done, then i think all arsenal fans will have a wonderful season. Most importantly,Arsene shulod not sell any of our players.

If Arsene Wenger could leave Emirates for the big spainish giant real? Who can take control at Emirates next year? But seriously, I would like Carlo Ancelotti to be coaching the Young Gunners next year probably.
We(Arsenal) needs 2 center forwards (Lukas Podolski & Mario Gomez) , 2 experience defenders (Cicinho & Philip Lahm) & 2 experience midfielders (Marcos Senna & Frank Ribery).
& I'll like to see new players to the Emirates.

Silvestre did play in the 2-1 win over ManU - how come he becomes "geriatric" a few months down the road. And our unbeaten run started in the period when Fabregas was injured...... Don't get me wrong, I strongly believe we need to add some steel in our team - but "confidence crisis" is one of the main factors for the failure this season. So buying a few players may not be an instant fix. We have to keep the current squad as the backbone. And talking about "new" players, can we get Senderos back from AC?

we don't need Arsene to leave'but what we need is to build agood team with young Gunners. All we need is Agood defending midfilder, goal to goal midfilder like Alonso X,Marcos Senna,M Obi or M Diarrah.center foward David Villa or Lukas podolski,
Defender our OB M upson or Lescot; they can do business clearly.ADe only out

Arsene Wenger has to realise dat he can't win any trophie with little boys. If he intends to win any silverware he has to buy exprience players, afterall when he ran unbeaten he had players like henry viera wiltord pires etc. I reccomend he signs David Wheater, Benzema, Gareth Barry or Didier Zokora Michael Dawson. With these players gunners will go far.

i think arsene should buy one defender player and promote one another defender from youth squad.because in your youth squad has prove much a quality player which you should give them a chance to prove it in your senior squad and give them the exp from the trial match and match.I think the real problem is all of your youth squad doesn't have a exp after all.

Wenger has done great job for gunner, we appreciate indeed but we need at least one trophy or more in a season, secondly iam in my kneeees please buy experince players to help people like fab, nasri and walcot in the midfield lastly, please!! please don't sell any off your bozz they are just good, what's needed is just some more touchups, iwill love to see more players next season,
i luv gunners forever!!!

What an insightful read. Wenger is a God in this sport and the board and fans seems to forget what he has done fro Arsenal in the past 1.5 decades... I really hope he stays and brings back the silverware tht Arsenal deserves. He lives by a noble philosophy that may seem outdated in this capitalistically run league but he is the reason why I am an Arsenal fan ... it is so easy to spend $50mil on a player but there is something special about rearing a young player into a great one and watching them represent your team...
As for Ade I tried defending him all season long but im done w/ him ... if he goes then so be it... He truly is a special player but he took steps backwards this season and crapped on us, the fans. Whatever happens i hope tht we can bring in some decent talent to balance out the youth and take us to the next level ... Long live Arsene and GO GOOONERRS!!!!

We can say the boys tried their best, but we can see that their best is not ok.The boss should add to the current squad bcos from my own point of view, the current squad is not competitive enough to win any trophy. If the funds are not enough, some less effective players like diaby, silvestre, fabianski, should be sold & better players should be bought.A world class defender is very essential for next season,a centre half that is tall and strong like Viera,a very pacy winger like Ashley Young, and a good centre foward who can score goals and is very swift, someone who does not throw away goal opportunities.A goalkeeper like Given is also necessary.

wenger is the greatest and should be given full support by board and funs .he is correct and wise in buying and selling .let not alisha usmanov or anybody start saying who and when to buy .we should not have chelsea problems where the manager has no say on tranfers. funs should also behave why boo Adebayour.we should believe on our team and hope ADE WENGER OR ANYOTHER PLAYER does not leave arsenal and next season will be great.hope all those injured will be back

There is nothing wrong with wenger and he is a great manager and his efforts are great!!!! we salute you!!!
All he needs to do is get rid of a few players like silvestre song and if possible sell adebayor and get a good forward and really good defenders!!!!! thats all we need GUNNERS!!!!!!!! And plz no more french players the teams filled with french players!!!!

wenger pls stay at arsenal for your own convinience and respect don't go to madrid if u do u will be like the other unfortunate managers like capello, schuster and others who went ther but never stay long. sign experience players forget about the kids they are meant for academy not for premiership level. we want to win cups next season we are tired of crying.you need to let go some players like gallas, silvestre, djouru etc and sign players like marcus senna, frank ribery, karim benzima, zlantan ibramhimovich juan and cicinho.pls take this advice.

Arsene Wenger is a great coach and i want him to remain at the emirates but not without a few matured and experience players that the young lads can look up to as a role model.
cheers

I believe Arsene Wenger is a great coach but needs to discipline the boys more. First we need to lose before buying...Diaby has been unproductive in most cases & when he is the mood, he is selfish with the ball (some other players also)...its up to Adebayor if he wants to stay but i really believe we need a top-rated striker David Villa or Tevez to make our strikers have a wake up call and fight for their positions.
We definitely need midfielders like Marcos Senna and Yaya Toure. They will be excellent additions to the team. We need 2 experienced center backs...no idea who they could be for now.
If Arsene could make a least 50% suggested change in those positions (not necessarily the players mentioned here) we should see a double or treble flying in next season.
A true gunner fan for sweet 13years would stop losing bets to my MU colleagues every season (Gold Label Reserve bottle - Someone from AFC has got to refund that back to me).
Looking forward to a better season with trophies

Song has done a great job this season. He deserves to stay & get more chances. Arsenal should let go Silvestre & Diaby. Get Sendoros and Traore back, send Bendtner on loan if we could add 1more striker & have Walcott play more as a striker than a winger (hoping to see more of Vela & Eduardo). Mr.Wenger is right keeping his shopping cart a secret. The team should be more ruthless in the 3rd half, score more goals. MU doesn't pity any team. We shouldn't pity any team. Our game philosophy is wonderful that's why I see only Arsenal play but we don't need to be a yard away from the keeper before scoring. Can we just get a player who is better than C.Ronaldo in terms of long range efforts & free kicks? I'm sick of seeing him surprise the world & capturing all the wonderful moments on ESPN.
Fabregas could you train yourself for this :)? Thanks Cesc - a fan who hasn't missed a gunner game for 6yrs

Look at the total points with which Arsenal have finished the league and anyone will agree that the performance of the club was not as bad as people make it sound. It is, however, essential for our manager to seal the leaky defence and bring in an established striker to fill Edebayor's impending departure. The board should also increase Wenger's spending power.Arsenal is not a small club! Please do not make it look so

I am an Arsenal fans from Nigeria.I want arsene wenger to stay at Arsenal b/cos I beleive that he alone know the problem that Arsenal are facing. And he should try his possible best to buy one or two good defenders and strikers.I think thats the little problem that the Gunners are having.THANKS

i think wenger have to reorganize his team once more.He need a very good DM & xabi alonso is the best choice,a good defender also such as ex gunners tony adam n martin keown the best partnership in Arsenal defends.A GK is very important to challenge almunia, think fabianski not the suitable for Arsenal, maybe Palop or Casillas or Buffon.i like to see tevez partner with VP,Arsh,Wal,Cesc, with the nice passing game it will "BOOM".i still dont get it why shud wenger keep buying young player, enuf is enuf.Arsenal has many young&good player, and it's time to let them play&gain some exp.pls invest some proven&quality player 4 d next season.i hope Arsenal will win 1or2 trophy next season.wish wenger all the best.try to sell&buy new exp player.Thank You.

All i want to say to Arsene Wenger is that, he is a well respectable manager no doubt and because of that people have sticked with him and the policy which we all agreed is good for the future of the team which i believe the future is now . Please, Mr Wenger try to listten to the plea of the FANS that really want changes in the team for an experienced players in the attack, in the middle and the defence. Please dance to our tune this time and see that things will be good for all for the rest of the seasons.

Last season, had it own disapointment. but i donot think calling for prof's head will solve the problem. should wenger go to real, we will have a big problem on our neck to solve. i think the best solution is that prof should make adjustment in the team.
"THESE COMING SEASON WILL DECIDE A LOT CONCERNING OUR PROJECT BUILDING THE YOUTHS"

About
Sam Limbert: My retirement as a football player came at the age of 14 due to being rubbish, it's fair to say I was more Kaba Diawara than Thierry Henry, so I turned my focus to writing about the game. I'm a lifelong Arsenal fan and have been lucky enough to watch the team across England and Europe. My favourite Gunner of all time is Dennis Bergkamp, and the 2004 Invincibles is the greatest side I've ever seen in English football. I try to be positive about the Arsenal as it's the hope that keeps us going! Follow me on twitter @SamsMatchReport.
