I remember the day like it was yesterday. I had recently turned nine and I was fully aware of what football was. I even recall getting back home from kindergarten to ask my grandpa what were the scores of the day during Spain 1982.

But 1986 was different. I didn't need my grandpa to inform me about the results and I had watched all of the six matches ("Hand of God" incident and "best-goal-ever-scored-in-a-World Cup" included) leading to that final against West Germany.

Our magic number 10 didn't score that day, but with one brilliant assist for Jorge BURRUCHAGA he showed us the way to lift the World Cup trophy.

Almost a year later, in a city called Rosario, our current magic number 10, Lionel Andrés MESSI, was born. And this summer, the two of them are going to South Africa as part of the same team.

About

Sebastian Garcia was born just a few blocks from the place where a certain Diego Armando Maradona first kicked a football. Regretfully, Sebastian had to make do with punching some keys and writing about football. He worked for Clarin newspaper and ESPN in Buenos Aires before taking part in Press Operations in several major sporting events such as the Beijing Olympics, when Argentina won gold at the Birds Nest.
